Bobby Lashley vs Shane Del Rosario In The Works For Strikeforce Jan. 30th?

Two up and coming undefeated heavyweights could collide January in Strikeforce. The 9-0 Shane Del Rosario confirmed to MMA Worldwide that he was offered and accepted a fight with 4-0 Bobby Lashley. Del Rosario’s camp stated that Lashley accepted the offer as well and are both awaiting confirmation from Strikeforce.

I really dont like Lashley’s chances here. Del Rosario is still rough but hes farther along than Lashley is.

Rosario got caught in that last fight, but he’s way better than Lashley in the striking game. And his ground game is decent obviously. That’s a tough fight for Bobby, real tough.

Wrestling and probably strength are the advantages I see for Lashley, but Del Rosario comes off as more well-rounded than Lashley. I would have to go with Del Rosario to take this one.

Rosario punched a guy in the gut while in the clinch against the ropes, a simple short punch, and he quit instantly. Rosario is deceptively powerful, and he’ll be a huge step up for Lashley.

I think Del Rosario takes this one...

Lashley will still be popular even with a loss, and it builds up Del Rosario a lot, if he does win..

Rosario was real close to having that fight with Cash stopped. I definitely like Rosario in this fight. Bad fight for Lashley to debut with

SF probably doesn’t have to bring over the fight from Prize Fights anymore, though I think that would be a better test for him.

Right this is quite a jump in competition as opposed to Bob Sapp.

But yeah, I rather he fight someone like Ron Waterman and then see how he does.

You're right

I looked up his weigh-in for the Sapp fight and he came in at 255.

This could work out well for Strikeforce no matter what happens. If Del Rosario wins they have a bit of hype to put behind him due to Lashley being fairly well known. If Lashley loses it gives them an excuse to put him up against some cans on Showtime and boost casual fan attention.

Any word on how he’s been doing at ATT? Has he been so impressive that they urged him to take a big step up in competition?

Wow

Big step up in comp for Lashley, he wasn’t kidding when he said he wanted to fight the best. SDL is a beast, and could be too much for him in the striking/ grappling department. Both these guys are serious prospects, we very well could see them fighting some top 15-20 comp in the near future

top 15-20 in Strikeforce?

cause the only guy who’s top 15-20 in the world with SF is Antonio Silva… doubt the winner would get Monson this early though.

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 16, 2009 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

Monson’s too good he’s 14th. They should sign Pedro Rizzo and Tim Sylvia if you need more fighters ranked 15-20.

I am confused by this comment

Damn.

I wanted to see both of these guys do well. My head and heart rarely agree on fight picks, but they’re both telling me SDR gets this.

Nutty matchmaking.

Why would Strikeforce book such a gigantic leap in competition for Lashley in his debut with the company? The leap from facing guys like Bob Sapp, Mike Cook, & Jason Guida to facing a legit prospect like Del Rosario is a gargantuan one. The only chance Lashley has IMO is to dry hump his way to a boring decision, so even if he wins, he loses in the eyes of the fans.

by Steve4192 on Dec 17, 2009 8:19 AM EST reply actions

Maybe they think that since Cook caught Rosario, Rosario is no good. LOL, that would be some laughable logic right there.

LOL

NO, Showtime has been following Del Rosario since his EliteXC days. They know how good he is. Oh, and Brandon Cash is the one who caught SDR.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 17, 2009 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

Dumb move by match making. Lashley could be a star for strikeforce but having him in his first fight going agianst someone who may very well beat him is dumb. If your going to give him somebody thats going to have a good shot at beating him why not a name so win or lose he seems important.

"Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass. I told him a year ago. I pulled it out of him and I beat him over the head with it." Brock Lesnar

I don't know...

If he puts on a good performance, he can still be a star in defeat. Tito’s been murdered in several fights and still commands big money. Same with Chuck. Couture has more losses than Tito and Chuck combined and is still a fan favorite. Wandy and Guida have sub-par UFC records and still have huge followings. So one loss where he looks impressive should not dimminish him too much. Market it as it is: the future of the HW division.

Bobby Lashley vs Shane Del Rosario

I think alot of people are Underestimating Lashley’s abilities, lets not forget that Lashley is with one of the greatest MMA camps in the world ATT, and in ATT i hear Lashley is getting better and better with each fight that comes his way, i think Bobby Lashley has unlimited potential in MMA and with time and training he could be the most dominant heavyweight of our ERA. And this guy shane del rosario, he seems to be a well rounded guy but i have seen his fights and to be honest i am not impressed, this guy hasn’t even fought anybody that good either, he got an easy road to 9-0, Bob Sapp has fought greater opponents such as Minotauro Nogueira, Mirko Cro Cop, and Lashley Finished Bob Sapp far faster then NOG or Cro Cop, now thats very Impressive, Rosario has never fought a caliber fighter like NOG or Cro Cop, and i think this fight on the 30th won’t last very long, in fact i see a 1st round finish, Bobby Lashley is far too powerful and exsplosive for Rosario, and Lashley’s wrestling base is extremely strong, he also has been training hard in his boxing and jiu-jitsu skills, im sure that Lashley will be ready where ever the fight goes, Another flaw that i saw in Rosario is in some of his fights he was hurt badly, but he came back and won in the end, i think in this fight with Lashley that is not going to be the case, Rosario can’t allow Lashley to hit him, if he does its over, Rosario has never fought anyone with Lashley’s Power, so this will be interesting to see how he deals with Lashley’s punishment. My prediction for this fight, Bobby Lashey will beat Shane Del Rosario 4 min into the 1st round by either KO standing, or TKO ground and pound, sorry but this guy Rosario is just in the way, Bobby Lashley’s main goals in MMA is to fight Fedor Emelianenko and Brock Lesnar if he ever returns, and most of all Lashley want’s to be the best ever in MMA, and i think his chances seem pretty good so far

Heard Lashley vs SDR may have fallen through and rumor is that Lashley’s camp may have turned down this fight. Hard to blame them since Shane is a top HW prospect with more experience than Lashley.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jan 5, 2010 4:05 PM EST reply actions

The Fight is still on between LASHLEY & SDR!!!

There have been rumors and speculation about the Lashley vs Rosario fight being off, well those rumors and speculations are false, the fight is still happening on Jan 30th, both camps have already agreed to the fight and scott coker is seeing to it, I myself am excited this is Finally Lashley’s chance to shut all of the haters and speculators up, Bobby Lashley is very fast learner he is like a spunge, he soaks up MMA knowlegde thats what he does, Rosario is good but Lashley shows Unlimited Potential in MMA, and sometimes experience does not always win a fight, as seen in tons of MMA fights through out history, and Rosario has never fought a man of Bobby Lashley’s size, strength, speed, agility and athletic ability, this will be Rosario’s toughest test up to date and this will be Bobby Lashley’s chance to get a quick 5-0 record and move on in the heavyweight division, i predict Bobby Lashley will win 4 min into the 1st round by TKO or KO, maybe Submission, Lashley’s skills have become alot better since the Bob Sapp fight, so we don’t know exactly how good Lashley is now, in my opinion i think he is very well rounded in his own right
