Late Night Fights: Dan Hornbuckle vs. Courtney Ray
March 24, 2007 - HOOKnSHOOT held an eight man welterweight tournament. Heading into the finals of the tournament Courtney Ray had knocked out Tom Kirk and Darren Morse while Dan Hornbuckle had submitted Wayne Bogard and won a decision over Jaime Toney.
With Hornbuckle's arrival on the big stage announced by wins over Akikiro Gono and Nick Thompson at Sengoku this year it becomes fun to look back on the time when he was the man running the mid-west scene.
Skip to about 1:50 for the fight as the beginning of the video is promo filler:
Ray and Hornbuckle would rematch eight months later with Dan pulling off an armbar victory in just over a minute.

there’s a bunch of good grappling footage of hornbuckle too.
The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering BROCKLESNAR; to the last I grapple with thee.
yep...
he’s a real talent. Very well rounded, a finisher from any position…etc

He’s also a comedian. After one of his fights in hammond, he screamed helpful pointers from the nosebleeds at every other fighter that went after him. You could hear him clearly over a huge crowd of drunks. The whole stadium was laughing.

I haven't seen much of Hornbuckle other than Sengoku footage....
Nice to see his ground chops. I was expecting him to keep the other guy at bay with his length but all those transitions on the ground are awesome too.
He’s quite the grappler. He won some NAGA and C3 absolutes at blue belt, trains with team mcvicker/megaton.

It was a really hot crowd

So did Hornbuckle's post fight antics.
I was expecting the old Hulk Hogan ear toward the crowd bit at any second.
Big Fan of the new Feature
I think the first time i saw him fight was up here in Canada on the Score. He is definetely the real deal. Keep up the good work Brent. Daps to ya.
This is a great idea that I hope you end up sticking with. I had never seen either the Marquardt/Edwards fight or this one, and it’s always impressive to see just how far some of these guys have come.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

I’m sure I’ll miss a day here and there due to life getting in the way, but I’m trying to finish them all on monday for the entire week…so hopefully not
