Not Tape Delay

The fights take place live Sunday afternoon in Sydney and Saturday night in the US.

Wow, that's going to be weird

For the main card to go live at 12 noon local time, that means the undercard will kick off at around 10am… which means the press will be at the arena for about 9am… ouch.

I could not imagine, as a fighter, being “up” for a fight at 10 AM.

Then again, I’m not a fighter.

When you wake up to run/train at 5-6 AM, 10 is nothing.

by Ahhhoki on Dec 15, 2009 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

Don't let it be 10 AM for you.

GSP sets his schedule to that of the location where he’s fighting several weeks before the fight. There’s no reason you couldn’t do the same for Australia, and just set up your day so that 10 AM felt like 7 PM.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Actually pretty happy its on in the daytime. It will limit the amount of drunk, southern cross tattoo donning fuckwits.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Pretty sure the way the tickets sold out has left most of those wankers at home holding their dicks.

True, I guess it will just be UFC fan club members, ticketek humans and people that got the password leaked that will be there. So that should limit the amount even more.

Goran will have ring rust but hopefully

this will get him past that and he returns to form. He’s only 25 and it will be interesting to see if he can continue to win like he did before he got injured.

I really hope that fight airs on Spike, at least.

He's also fighting at Middleweight for the first time in the UFC

I don’t know if the weight cut is going to affect him, and I think that the long layoff is going to potentially affect him more. His ground skills are supposed to be very good, and his striking is very powerful, but CB has the wrestling and top game. I am giving this fight to Reljic.
If Bonnar loses to K-Sos, will Bonnar be cut? I don’t think he will, but that would be three in a row.

they held a press conference today on Australia,
UFC managing director of International Development Marshall Zelaznik was joined by Cain Velasquez, Wanderlei Silva, Joe Stevenson, George Sotiropoulos, Elvis Sinosic and Chris Haseman on the press conference podium. -Fighters Only

wonder if they said announced anything important though.

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 15, 2009 8:05 PM EST reply actions

Everything Wandy says is important.

I specializes in grammar fail.

by a tommy point on Dec 15, 2009 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

I saw a quick segment of it on the news last night and it didn’t seem like anything important was said. It seemed like more of an introduction to the UFC and what it is all about. They talked about how amazing it was for the tickets to sell out in only 8 hours when the Roy Jones Jr. fight couldn’t even fill the same arena. They also talked about how they expect records to be broken as this will probably be the most profitable event ever to be held at Acer Arena.

That’s about all i got out of it. It was only a quick news segment though. But It was the first time i had seen a UFC story on mainstream news and it was pretty cool.

Sorry, he Jason Bourned me.

cool.

thanks for the info…I’m glad they’re finally going to your country..(maybe they can go here next. haha) :)

No, sorry. Maybe if Vera were better, now you have to pin all your hopes on Munioz.

Though since you are going to be an honourary Canadian for a while after 109, you can be satisfied with the UFC’s Vancouver or Montreal show in ’10

UFC on Australian News

was this the one you were talking about? or is there more coverage?

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 15, 2009 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

No it was a different one to that one. Good find! The one i saw was on Network Ten (one of the top 2 TV stations) “Sports Tonight” program. It was similar but a lot more positive. As they were showing the highlights they were talking about how it is the fastest growing sport in the world and how easy it is to understand why it’s so popular. I think this is mainly because they show “UFC Wired” on their sports channel.

I actually know a few of the people working for the PR company that is responsible for the campaign to bring MMA to Australia and not too long ago they were saying how they were really struggling to get any mainstream media to cover it. Looks like they are coming around.

Sorry, he Jason Bourned me.

by MMAussie on Dec 15, 2009 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

they better..

cause whatever they do, the UFC is surely coming, and the network who doesn’t cover it just loses out cause all indications show that Australia really loves their MMA… haha.

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 15, 2009 10:31 PM EST up reply actions

So true. MMA sure has exploded down here. I can’t wait till there are more Aussie fighters in the UFC to cheers for.

Sorry, he Jason Bourned me.

I am glad this sold out so very quickly, mainly because I would be out of the country anyway and unable to see it and a huge success like this means they will probably come back again within the following 12 months.

Hopefully Sotiropoulos beats Joe Stevenson, nothing like a hometown fighter to cheer for to inspire the masses to take up MMA. The more people interested in mma means more gyms will pop up and hopefully it won’t be such a huge hassle to train mma

GREAT MAIN CARD

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez — Nog for sure. Nog is used to fighting guys like Cain.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Michael Bisping — As much as i love Wandy, i have feeling Bisping will edge out the decision here. He could just follow Rich’s gameplan.

Joe Stevenson vs. George Sotiropoulos — Tough fight for George.. A big step up of competition for him.

Keith Jardine vs. Ryan Bader — Two men needing a win to prove themselves. I’ll take Bader here.

Mirko Cro Cop vs. Ben Rothwell — Crocop should win this. Ben striking has never been impressing so I doubt he could do to Crocop what JDS did to him.

Skadoosh!

by Jigs on Dec 16, 2009 1:37 PM EST reply actions

Cro Cop looked gun shy, and he doesn't set up those LHKs like he did before..

and Ben, while not technically great, has a lot of power and is very dangerous standing up… This fight will be closer than most people think..
