BJ Penn vs GSP 3, Yes or No???
Very simple guys, BJ vs GSP 3, do you want to see this, yes or no, why or why not?
Also, would it be more intriguing to see BJ Penn make the move to WelterWeight, see Georges St Pierre move to Middleweight, and see Anderson Silva move to Light Heavyweight? Nothing against dominant champions, however I just want to see these pound for pound greats all move up in weight and fight new blood. What do you think?

Yes.
Couple more LW fights and the division is cleaned out. Give him a top WW and, if he wins, I would be stoked to see a re-rematch.
I would like to see BJ v. Koscheck. That would tell us alot about BJ and how he deals with a bigger wrestler. If he can get by Kos and deal with his skill-set effectively it might be good preperation for GSP 3 and then hold on to your seats.
correction..
…this desperately needs a poll…
/would vote yes, despite the ugly bout last time…

Huh?
Dan Hardy didn’t even have to beat 3 ranked WW for a title shot….
I mean, I’m sure Rory Markham and Marcus Davis are “ranked” top 50 or so but they aren’t ranked high that’s for sure.
Dan Hardy also hasn’t lost to GSP twice already.
The only thing Jon Jones does better than Matt Hamill is hear.

I dislike BJ Penn
But I think he deserves another shot at GSP, especially before he calls it a career. But no more free title shots. If GSP beats Hardy, then BJ should move up and fight either Fitch, Alves or both before getting a shot at GSP. Honestly I don’t understand why this is not waaaay more appealing to people than BJ moving down and beating smaller fighters. If Jose Aldo defends a couple times, he can move up and fight BJ, not the other way around.
The reason why a naturally bigger fighter coming down to a weight class is unappealing is because it doesn’t prove much. So a naturally bigger fighter can prove he can cut down and then what? Beat up on smaller guys? That’s a lot less impressive than the smaller guy coming up, and winning against someone who’s supposed to be naturally stronger.
No, at least not yet.
It hasn’t even been a year since GSP smacked him down (granted, I think the grease made the fight more lopsided, but St. Pierre would’ve won that fight regardless). To be honest, i’d rather see GSP/ Silva, since Anderson likely won’t fight Machida, and given that they’re around 1-2 fights away from clearing out their divisions.
BJ, on the other hand, has Maynard & Edgar to worry about, as well as guys in other orgs who could present stylistic challenges for him (Thomson, JZ, Kawajiri, Alvarez, Hansen, possibly Aoki). I think it will be on the UFC to see if they can sign the top challengers from around the world in order to prevent BJ from getting bored (which has been a problem in the past). Given that only 5 top 10 fighters are inside the UFC, it’s certainly not unreasonable to think that they could sign at least 1-2 of them. I honestly think they could get JZ and Alvarez to sign if they tried.

Yeah, but then you have to build those guys up since they aren’t exactly tearing it up despite being somewhat highly ranked (all losing to one another somewhat recently). Their introduction to the fans would take likely 2+ fights (~ 1 year), and by that time BJ and GSP would likely be ready for #3 after beating down a couple more opponents apiece.
Also, what’s Alvarez’s status with Bellator?
That's what i'm saying, though
If you can get 2 of those guys (lets say hypothetically, Alvarez and JZ), then by the time they are prime for a title shot, it will be perfect timing.
Because right now, you have 2 viable contenders- Maynard and Edgar. Gray beat Frank, so he’s first in line; if/ when he beats Diaz, he’ll get the next title shot. In the meantime, Edgar faces someone like Florian, and the winner of that fight probably gets the next crack at the belt after that. But then, you pretty much have a lack of challengers to keep BJ interested/ busy.
Which is where the new signings come in. JZ would probably tear through guys like Franca, Fisher, Griffin, Guida, Sanchez, etc (given his knee is fully rehabbed and he’s back @ 100%), and could reasonably get a title shot within a year. Alvarez will finish up his contract w/ Bellator by the end of the upcoming season, and could sign w/ the UFC by the end of Summer. All he’d need is 1 fight against a legit opponent, and he’d be deserving of a title shot

I don’t care to see it if it is simply Penn move up for a fight or two. If he is going to beat GSP at 170.. he needs to become a welterweight not just a chubby LW like he usually does.
He would need to do it right… put on the muscle (but idk if his frame can hold much more) and the strength. But… this would probably make it so he wouldn’t be able to come back down again.
the first two fights weren’t exactly epic though…
I'm interested in watching credible challenges to GSP.
If BJ can work his way through 2-3 top level competitors at WW, I would absolutely love to watch him fight GSP again, because realistically he has a great chance to earn that #1 contender slot on merit.
If they’re going to toss him a #6-15 guy and let him fight GSP after that, forget it. I want him to take on guys like Rumble (1st), Alves (2nd) and Fitch/Koscheck (3rd) before getting another shot at GSP. If he doesn’t run that gauntlet, then it indicates that nobody thinks he could, in which case I have zero interest in watching him get flattened by GSP again.
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.
No, BJ got didn’t just get beat in the rematch against GSP he was destroyed in everyway possible the guy quit on the stool and didn’t want anymore after promising to do the same to George. It was the biggest beatdown i’ve ever seen and the first time i’ve ever seen someone’s soul get taken in a fight.
BJ has nothing to offer GSP in anyway, his fanboys can cry about grease and make any rationalization that they want but it doesn’t matter. Because we all saw BJ humbled and refocused on being a top LW where he belongs, if he wants to jump on a couple of top WW’s here and there that’s fine but he’s 0-2 against George and just like after the fourth round he’s had more than enough.
the guy quit on the stool and didn’t want anymore
No he didn’t. His corner stopped the fight, as any good corner should do. BJ and about any other high level fighter, would have gone back out there and taken even more beating. This is what they are there for, not only to coach, but to look out for their fighter’s best interest.

No no no
a thousand times NO.
There was nothing in the fight that would indicate that the outcome would be different. GSP is simply better than BJ Penn at 170. Penn’s problem is that as cliche as it sounds Penn was built for 155. His body just is not big enough to handle the monsters that drop down to 170. GSP walks into the cage around 185, Anthony Johnson probably close to 200, Fitch has to be over 185, Pitbull Alves is a monster, etc etc. Penn would have to take serious time to reshape his body and he doesn’t have the frame for it. If Penn adds muscle mass to get to 170 like everyone else, he loses a lot of his dexterity and fluidity that makes him dominate at 155. Plus, he’s 31 years old its kind of late in the game to start adding muscle.
What is so wrong about being great at your weight class? Why do we put so much into seeing people bounce around weight classes to consider them great? Its an accomplishment if you can do it, but the height of Penn’s ability – his true greatness – is at 155. Pulver, Stevenson, Sherk, Florian, and now Sanchez. All impressive wins, all at 155. At 170? He’s lost to GSP twice and Matt Hughes once.
Come BJ, be great and stay at 155.
I agree with the general sentiment here. I’d watch it, and I’d root for it … IF and only IF, BJ beats at least one of the two top LW challengers (Maynard and Edgar), and then tackles 1-2 top ranked WWs (any of the ones already listed would suffice).
I could see BJ beating Koscheck and in fact, I’d bet on BJ if he bulks up right. Alves would be damn tough. Fitch would probably grind out a decision win.
If Dana White wants to help BJ get a WW title shot, he’d let BJ fight a WW in the #5-10 range, then Koscheck, and then GSP.
Being overrated is overrated.
call me crazy
but i cant see BJ beating alves at all
Making the world a better place, one dirtbag at a time.
BJ vs Alves
Is the fight I would most like to see him in at WW.
Kos would be outboxed and then work all day for the takedown. Alves and BJ would be a very interesting stand up fight!

Why can't we just make good matchups
BJ vs. any LW is not a good matchup. I’d much rather watch BJ vs. Alves, Fitch or Kos. If so lets do it. Right now BJ GSP isn’t an interesting matchup to me, but if he has 2-4 good wins at WW then maybe it becomes an interesting fight.
I think BJ would need to find a way to put on some real mass (how is a bit of a question). If not GSP will put him on his back and keep him there. Its similar to Mir Lesnar in that way.
Of course if BJs goal is just to fight GSP then who knows if this will happen since GSP might make the same move to MW.
Mind you GSP has a lot more interesting fights at MW then he does at WW.
What would be the point?
GSP completely dominated Penn in their last fight. Do we have any reason at all to think that Penn has improved that much or that GSP is suddenly less good?
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
you can see that bj’s conditioning has gotten alot better since that fight, may make a difference, who knows… only one way to find out.
