Fabricio Werdum vs. Andrei Arlovski 2 Possible For Strikeforce:
"I must fight in February or March, and I imagine that it could be against (Andrei) Arlovski", said Werdum. "I lost to him by 2x1 (at UFC 70), it was an ugly fight, nobody liked, but I never choose opponents, I can fight anyone, but then I wanna fight Fedor".

Yep
The fight that made me start disliking Werdum. Slap fighting is not cool..

Well, Chute Boxe made him stop that now. If he would have made a fist, Arlovski would have been DONE!

I think most people didnt like the first fight
but now their doing the rematch? I’ll watch but let’s all pray for a better fight this time.
The first fight sucked.
I don’t understand the logic of booking a rematch that no one wants to see.
Coker should follow the example set by Dana White scuttling Hendo-Franklin 2 when it became clear that no one cared about that fight.
This is one time when Strikeforce should be happy that they don’t have the footage. I can just imagine UFC pulling an Eric Bischoff and showing the match in it’s entirety and then telling people they can see the rematch on the next Strikeforce show. That should scare people out of watching the show.
Except set it to Benny Hill music.

Hmm I don't think this will happen
There’s a lot to lose from this fight – if Andrei wins then there’s no one left and he’s the one who gets Fedor . Think about it – he gets ko’ed by Fedor , gets ko’ed by Rogers (in 22 seconds) then beats Werdum and gets a shot at Fedor ? That’s ridiculous.
If Werdum wins then the fight builds him nicely for Fedor but realistically this is a very bad matchup for Werdum, it’s more likely that Andrei will be victorious. And lets not forget the last fight was shit , really great stuff , even Werdum said it was shit.
A more ‘logical’ fight would be Rogers vs Werdum for a shot at Fedor …and Andrei can fight Antonio Silva or a can in the mean time to get some wins…
it should be antonio silva/werdum for shot at fedor and rodgers/overeem.

I think he meant that Werdum should get the shot at Fedor now , and not fight anyone in between .
I somewhat agree that unless Overeem comes to fight in the U.S , which seems bloody unlikely as time goes by , Werdum makes the most sense . No need to let him fight Andrei for an elimination bout for the reasons I pointed out , Andrei has nowhere near earned the right for that . He needs some wins asap.
Why not Andrei vs Lashley ? That’s a fun fight …
i completely brain farted and forgot this fight even happened…can i delete my retart post?

Uh, don’t blame yourself. It didn’t exactly stick out in the memory.

can i still delete my retart post anyways?

No
Sorry mang, we can’t delete our brain farts. I did figure that’s what happened.

Werdum has already lost ugly fights
…to Arlovski and Big Nog. Why would I want to see Werdum fight Fedor? Why would I think he can threaten the Last Emperor?
It might be fun to see Werdum vs Rogers, but the only heavyweight in SF that would be a compelling match-up for Fedor is Overeem.
I’d probably be more excited to see Dan Henderson fight Fedor (as ridiculous as that is) than Werdum. Dan has no real chance either but it would be a big pay-day for him and I like Hendo.

In fairness
Werdum is significantly improved since those fights (though, not so much so since getting uppercut out of the UFC by Cigano).

Like all the BJ Penn threads
I don’t have much problems with these fights as long as the guy is a contender with some aspect of his game to lean on during the fight.
Here are the scenarios I would like to see:
1) If Fedor is healthy, they book the Fedor/Overeem match right away.
2) If Fedor is out for awhile they book Werdum/Overeem. They were supposed to fight this Summer so it doesn’t seem to out of place. If Overeem wins he’s beaten a legitimate top HW and you’ve introduced him to American audiences. Hopefully in brutal fashion. If Werdum wins he’s had three wins in a row over Kyle, Silva, and Overeem (and 5 of 6) and it would be hard to deny he’s a worthy competitior (especially after winning the ADCC).
3) If Overeem won’t fight, than you’ll have to bite the bullet and book Fedor/Werdum
4) Arlovski could be paired with Sergei Kharitonov and Brett Rogers with Antonio Silva. Winners face off and hopefully you build another possible challenger.
Rematch makes no sense.
What if Arlovski wins? Then you have just another opponent that Fedor has already beaten. If Arlovski fights anyone it should be Big Foot or one of there new heavyweights (maybe King Mo?).
by HappyLittleTreez on Dec 14, 2009 3:08 PM EST reply actions
King Mo?
Nah, I don’t think it’s going to be him. I think Whitehead is going to hand him his 1st loss!!

Wow
You’re that convinced by Mo right now? Nothing crazy about picking against him, even if the odds don’t support it.

If this rematch is scheduled I think it’s because Strikeforce obviously doesn’t want Fedor vs. Werdum on CBS.
Schedule this rematch Arlovski wins and Werdum is out of the picture for Fedor.
Yeah but then you're stuck with someone Fedor has already beat.

Before the Rogers fight (though Rogers boosted his stock tremendously with the Fedor fight), people were talking about Fedor vs Arlovski II, since AA was getting the “better” of Fedor before getting “caught”. =)

I don’t think so , not after what happened when Arlovski fought Rogers . No one is gonna be dumb enough to think Arlovski can do anything to Fedor after being destroyed so decisively by Rogers and after Fedor beating Rogers . And Fedor beating Arlovski !
The rematch may make sense , after Andrei gets some wins . I think Fedor himself said so specifically , that Arlovski has to win a few figths first . And he’s right …
I wouldn’t go that far. It didn’t take Frank Mir too long to get back into the title picture with the UFC. Essentially he’s in a mode where he wins a fight than loses a fight to remain in the title picture and has been doing this for the past 2 1/2 years, before that he lost a lot of fights to mostly crappy opponents. One good looking victory in HW division is usually all it takes to be considered for title contention.
Thats simply not true , look at Mir’s record . One title shot came after 4 straight wins , the other after 2 , and Mir never had to straight losses like Arlovski .
If Arlovski beats Werdum and another opponent (fuck it , even Bobby Lashley for all I care) then fine . But anything different is simply ridiculous and I don’t see Fedor’s people agreeing to it. It’s a total lose-lose to Fedor , if he loses he loses , if he wins it’s a win he’s already had against an opponent that only became worse .
An Arlovski – Fedor rematch is better then a Fedor – Rogers rematch. And Werdum is just out of the question. He has absolutely no chance.
Yes, exactly. Because we didn’t see the full potential of both fighters. The match didn’t last long enough. We understand that Rogers simply isn’t good enough. But Arlovski lost for a flashy move.
AA is a dangerous fight to have in SF. AA has to ability to beat any one in the SF HW division (including Fedor). Chances are he will beat Werdum and then MAY take another fight before Fedor. If Overeem stays clear it will be the only fight they will have for Fedor, and AA is a danger to Fedor and the SF business model.
I’m not going to gripe about two of the best strikers at HW potentially fighting. It seemed like the pressure really screwed with them last time… something tells me Arlovski would move forward more in a rematch.
Werdum is one of the best strikers in at HW? When did that happen?

Best Horizontal strikers at HW. You missed the fine print. =)

Forget Arlovski !
Giving Arlovski a possible “title” shot is crazy . He’s coming off 2 fucking KO losses , one of them to Fedor ! And no , he didn’t look that great against Fedor , not enough to warrant a rematch . Why the hell would Arlovski deserve a shot over Rogers , just because Rogers fought Fedor last ? That’s really stupid .
The fans and the media all remember Andrei and his sinking career , a win for Fedor over Arlovski means absolutely zero , it will only make Fedor haters happy .
And no , Andrei beating Werdum isn’t enough imo . 2 KO losses , one win ? Please .
Arlovski vs. Fedor II
is a fight that we should get, a fight that would be interesting, and a fight that AA hasn’t earned yet.
Two wins against reasonable opposition and he does earn it. Until then, it’s likely moot.
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.
