MMA_SuPreMaCy and His "Sources"... More like copy-pasting without crediting... or you know, Plagiarism..

Here's the post he edited, then deleted, after getting called out for plagiarizing Middle Easy and a guy from the EA forum..

after i called him out on it.. he linked the forum on the word “heard”.. then decided to change the whole thing to “read from EA sports forums”

LOL, hilarious man. I was doing everyone a favor, but thanks for bringing it back. I had a feeling you would.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 4:25 AM EST up reply actions

i called him out too in the vga vid thread. dude really needs to either cite sources. i mean it’s nice that he posts info but shit like that? i’d rather he never post.

by Matthew Roth on Dec 14, 2009 3:17 AM EST reply actions

yep..it's cool if someone posts good info,

but not linking back and implying that he “heard it from sources” when he clearly copy pasted middle easy’s tweets in exact order, and added a few bits from the forum, is just fucking sleazy..

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 3:20 AM EST up reply actions

can you guys start policing his posts? i mean it really is an every post kinda deal. it gets old.

by Matthew Roth on Dec 14, 2009 3:22 AM EST up reply actions

He does that a lot,

and then he denies it and adds a “oh i just forgot to link cause i was busy” excuse if he gets called out…

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 3:25 AM EST up reply actions

I like Sup

But the industry insider shit gets out of hand sometimes.

I used to like him too,

i even defended him several times in the past, but this shit is just bad… and Plagiarism is just fucking wrong, and people who do this really deserves to be embarrassed.

Hopefully most people from BE read this fanshot so that they’d know the shit he keeps trying to pull…

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 3:30 AM EST up reply actions

I think he just needs to cite sources and people need to stop blowing smoke up his ass about “talking to Coker” and shit.

yup..

I read that comment and it made me laugh a lot… The guy is dedicated and loves to post, but that fake “im an insider” crap has got to go, because plagiarism is just low..

i always figured he was the one blowing the smoke up our asses about “talking to coker” or “my sources at ea”

waaaaait….seriously? thats pretty amazing in a ridiculous kind of way.

I never claimed anything like that.

I also used to like your enthusiasm for the sport and your posts, before you got hired on staff that is. After that (and I am not the only one who thinks this), “things” changed.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 5:06 AM EST up reply actions

Whatever you say dude..

Try and turn this around or change the topic, the bottom line is that I don’t imply that I’m “reporting” stuff when I copy paste from other people..

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 5:16 AM EST up reply actions

Are my “fan” (emphasizing the fan part) posts not cutting it? Well then, I apologize for that. I do my best.

What would the proper action be for violating a rule? Isn’t a warning or a virtual slap in the hand the correct action to take? Is public feud a better way? I am sure its in the rules somewhere.

I don't think this

Anton

I believe that you have officially embarrassed him, Sup does have some good stuff but clearly he does need to “HT” and cite his “sources”, nevertheless this is an interesting turn of events

"Its a cliche that boxing is the sweet science, man we're astro physics..." ~ Mayhem Miller speaking about MMA

by FR702 on Dec 14, 2009 4:04 AM EST reply actions

I explained it to him, decided to be civil about it, and I had a feeling that he would bring it back. Believe it or not, I cite all my stuff, but I forget to put them up sometimes (not intentionally), specially when I need to come back to it, and I do it afterward. I don’t need to be called out to do it.

The reason WHY I deleted the post was because there were about 10-12 comments that had NOTHING to do with the content, but more on how Anton was trying to “get me” for copying and pasting without HT, even after I explained it to him. Again, I did not want the feud to upstage the actual content of the post.

That’s all. I’m done for now, and thanks to those that enjoy reading my posts. There is NO BENEFIT for me to take someones credit or work. Letting my negligent posting being construed as a guy who wants to be an “insider” again means nothing. Now for those saying that I don’t cite my posts, I ask you to look through my history and show me all these posts without any source. Ask Nick Thomas (who is one of the only BE members who Front Pages my posts) if I have ever given any mislead information or taken others work without providing a source. If I don’t have a source, its because there is nothing to source and I am it. If I ever do happen to forget (which I am not denying, and if someone reminds me, I offer it) he is nice enough to link it for me instead of accusing me (which is not the first time Anton has done so).

Thanks for understanding guys.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 4:42 AM EST up reply actions

did you or did you not copy paste Middle Easy's exact words,

add in a few of yours, and claim that it was a post that you “heard” of somewhere you didn’t link to?

Did you or did you not get the stuff from the forum yet conveniently “forget” to link to them?

You phrase it as if you “heard” about it from someone, then you only link it, when someone calls you out, then make the excuse, “I forgot, I was busy”.. Now it read’s “I read about from the EA forums”… And lets say somehow you’re really forgetful/busy that you did forget about that EA forum thing, the middle easy copy paste was still inexcusable..

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 5:56 AM EST up reply actions

If you actually believe I steal from ME... read this Middle Easy post...

http://middleeasy.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=863:check-out-the-first-picture-from-ea-sports-mma&catid=34:organizations

I really don’t want to get it to a point where I have to prove myself.

Not sure what magazine this is from or whether I’m going to have any calls from lawyers this weekend for publishing this picture but here is the first screen capture of gameplay from EA Sports MMA and I’m going to need about an hour to clean the saliva from my desk. Amazing stuff. Props to MMASupremacy from the UG for finding this.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 6:07 AM EST up reply actions

and that proves what?

that Middle Easy mentions where they get their stuff?

So why didn’t you do the same?

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 6:11 AM EST up reply actions

Hence, the fact that we have helped each other out before, which is why it would be dumb to think I am trying to steal from them.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 6:14 AM EST up reply actions

oooh..

so BE doesn’t have to credit MMAMania if they copy paste their work, cause not only have they “helped each other out before” they’re actually sister sites…

good one! that makes it so right..

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 6:16 AM EST up reply actions

LOL

Completely missed the point.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 6:18 AM EST up reply actions

I'm not the only one who finds this guy extremely obnoxious, right?

I remember when lil nog signed with the UFC, and Supremacy tried to spin it in a negative light stating that he’ll never fight Anderson or Dos Santos. Then when it comes out Mousasi is only allowed to fight on the same card as Fedor a while ago he was acting if everything was all peachy. Just a couple of examples f his intellectual dishonesty Right off the top of my head.

The guys is basically a propagandist. He has an agenda.

by SpaceSoap on Dec 14, 2009 4:43 AM EST reply actions

I always took Sup with a grain of salt…i figured someone has to argue from the other side (Non-UFC)

by MikeD32 on Dec 14, 2009 4:47 AM EST up reply actions

1) Lil Nog doesn’t want to fight Machida or Anderson.
2) Josh Gross already reported when he asked Coker, Coker told him that no such contract clause exists for Mousasi to only fight when Fedor fights.

So you are saying I was right, but don’t like the way I relay the info?

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 4:47 AM EST up reply actions

1) Lil nog will Fight Machida, no? I remember Ed saying something along the lines of the figth not being their first choice for a fight, but it would work.

2) I missed that update.

I only brought up those two examples to highlight your spinmeistering and your agenda, and they happened to be fresh in my mind.

by SpaceSoap on Dec 14, 2009 4:54 AM EST up reply actions

"[Anderson Silva and I] won’t fight because we’re friends," said Machida. "We hang out, go to dinner and do many things together. I want to defend the belt some times and after that, make a personal challenge to test my potential. But it’s a thought for the future. Who knows – will I be the heavyweight champion one day?"

When asked about fighting Nogueira, Machida concluded the interview by stating "Let’s fight other guys."

http://www.fightersonlymagazine.co.uk/news/viewarticle.php?id=3507

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 4:57 AM EST up reply actions

I know i remember reading a quote from Ed Soares in which he stated the only fight that was 100% off the table was Lyoto Vs Anderson. After some googling around for a bit just now i can’t seem to find the source. Someone help out here with a link? Also, “let’s fight other guys” is not the same as “I will not fight him.”

Regardless, this isn’t the issue here. My problem is your willingness to slant and spin away to further your agenda.

Before Coker’s comments about the Mousasi Fedor deal, you flat out defended the situation at face value:

“LOL At people making fun of this. Is it that hard to believe that M-1 wants M-1 fighters to fight on M-1 co-promoted events on CBS? It makes the most sense for them, doesn’t it? Now, if Strikeforce wants Mousasi to defend the belt and Fedor is out for 4-6 months, he will fight without Fedor on the card, simple as that.

- MMASuPreMaCy

So, lil nog signs with the UFC – remember this would have been before anyone knew for sure who he would be willing to fight and who not – and you jump in and put a negative spin on it with your comments about how he’ll never fight so and so.

Meanwhile, a potential situation that is very obviously bad for SF arises and you play it like it’s just fine. As if one of their best fighters was only allowed to fight when certain preconditions were met and having to bend to the will of M1 wasn’t detrimental.

Your subtle about it, but it’s my opinion that this pattern applies to a bunch of your comments to the point of you have a hidden anti-UFC agenda. To the point that you’re an obnoxious propagandist.

by SpaceSoap on Dec 14, 2009 5:34 AM EST up reply actions

To answer your questions, I talk to enough people and have followed the fighters for a quite a while, enough to be confident with what I was writing. Indeed, Soares did mention that, but in the most recent interview, Machida said otherwise, and it is their preference not to fight guys from their own camp, much like AKA.

What you consider “spinning” is me quoting sources.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 5:38 AM EST up reply actions

but

But even you can look at the topics you choose to report on and see that it trends anti-ufc/pro-strikeforce/affliction/dream/etc…

There are guys on here like(I believe) Chris Nelson, and Leland who follow other promotions (Sengoku, Dream,Shooto, etc) without coming off as UFC haters….

I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.

Nelson and Leland are both BE staff members. MMASuPreMaCy is a fan posting fanposts and fanshots, so he can be as biased as he wants. He is no better or worse than mmalogic who is obviously working with a pro-Zuffa agenda. They are both partisan to opposing camps. If either one or both were discovered to be paid “astro-turfers” it wouldn’t surprise me.

that is not the topic here..

I really don’t care if he has biases or whatever, I just don’t like people copy pasting other people’s work without crediting…

That already happened to me, (a newspaper stole a couple of my articles) and I know how it feels, so I really don’t like it when I see other people doing it…

This is not a place to bash him for what mma promotion he likes/dislikes, and this isn’t a post to shamelessly bash a guy because I don’t like him (cause that couldn’t be further away from the truth)… I really just don’t like people stealing another man’s work.

this isn’t about siding (or not siding) with supremacy’s views, this is about not stealing other people’s work…

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 6:09 AM EST up reply actions

So, wouldn’t it not be proper to delete a post that would be considered plagiarism, notify the author of such post or fix it by linking it for them, so a feud doesn’t erupt on the posts, which in the end, upstages the actual info trying to be relayed in the post. I was trying to do my part, but you chose to bring it back, so, here we are.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 6:12 AM EST up reply actions

see the problem is he did. he brought it up in the post. you deleted the post and pretend like shit doesn’t happen. it’s ridiculous. and you’re missing the point. the point is you directly lifted quotes from middle easy and didn’t give credit. at all. a lot of your fanposts/shots are just block quotes which is fine, but you have to credit your sources at the beginning regardless of the chance you’ll add more to the post. it happens enough where it isn’t an “oh i forgot” issue, it becomes a “hope no one catches me” issue. no one has problems with you reporting non UFC news, they have a problem with you not giving credit where credit is due. and the reason anton made this post, is that when he did tell you to fix your fanpost, you decided to get all comical instead of just fixing it.

=)

Don’t be so hurried in publishing and just edit it all out before posting. It’s sort of hard to argue with saying you “heard” about this stuff and then weo finding that you lifted the whole thing. It just looks bad. It’s all good, just do your due dilligence in the future..

True, and I will put this experience into perspective, though I vehemently disapprove of the way this was handled. If I don’t have time, I just wont post it, but at this point, posting with users waiting to scrutinize anything I write or in the manner of which it is done is growing tiresome.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 3:33 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think anyone is overly-pleased with this being dragged through the public forum.

However, I can see why people examine your work so closely. Look at the post on Dynamite! – it was all rumors, then any more signings to which you alluded teased the information at us and followed with those damn smileys. Throwing half-useful information around then acting hurt when people scrutinize your posts isn’t helpful to your cause. If you have something solid, by all means share it. Just tell us where you got it. And lose the smiley. Please.

Those were rumors, and were stated as such. When I hinted certain information, did it not become true afterwords? I tell as much as I can. At least, that is my intention.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

It's not what you're saying, but how you say it.

Remember when Coker said that SF would have two major announcements soon? You kept hinting and implying something massive would happen, smothering your posts with smiles & winks like your not supposed to say anything, but you’ll tell us anyway out of graciousness. Nothing materialized, and when pointed out, you stuck to your guns with the same sly fervor. You hint and suggest and call it “rumors”, so if you’re ever wrong, you can say it wasn’t fact yet, but if confirmed, you can take credit. You defend mediocre cards for no apparent reason. People attack mmalogic, too, but at least he’ll stick his neck out instead of using double-speak and can weather the criticism. You play the heel, but aren’t liking that it bit you back.

I play the heel? I report MMA news and rumors, whatever you guys take from it is fine with me. And, I am fine with the criticism as well, though THIS is entirely different and has nothing to do with what people think my “biases” are.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

You know exactly how to manipulate people here. You’re falling back on the excuse of “I report the news”, but how many bullshit TV news shows use that excuse? You’re slippery, never openly siding with any issue, so you can attribute any bias to how we perceive you. This post is just an extension of that – you claiming sources and insider info, then weaseling out with vague words when pressed. You’re seen as so biased that you’ll publish anything not-Zuffa, which leads to heavy scrutiny, which leads to this mess. You may honestly have contacts – I don’t know – but you give no reason for people to trust you on the matter. It may not be fair, but this is what you’ve sown, so reap away. =)

How exactly do I manipulate people when everyone calls out what I post as a “spin” job or take what I write with a grain of salt?

If anything, I am just wasting my time posting stuff that people won’t care to read.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 9:15 PM EST up reply actions

Okay, okay

Please stop playing the victim. You don’t post news and rumors as a courtesy out of the good of your heart. We’re all here wasting our time talking about MMA because we enjoy it. You don’t spin as hard as you once did, but you still spin. Nothing to be ashamed of, there’s a lot of spinning for Zuffa around here, too.

Just give it time— this will die down.

That last part rings true

Nelson and Leland always provide strong and impartial coverage of news from abroad and I absolutely love it. Certainly, there are posters here that make all-things-Zuffa seem greater than they likely are, but none so often and brazenly as Sup can. Even smoogamaphone won’t tug at the wool and try to tell you that he likes Dana— he’ll affirm his very clear stance on all things combat-sports. I don’t care if people don’t like the UFC, just be honest about it so we can exchange banter without having to dedicate entire paragraphs to reiterating that there are clear biases involved. There are so few of us that just love all MMA (people just love picking a side, no matter the venue), but honesty goes a long way.

Well, at least I am glad that you are enjoying this exchange, but anyone that has had any conversation can tell you the same. If anyone asks me a question, I answer it, plain a simple. If you don’t know that, its probably because you have never gotten in an in depth conversation with me.

It plays along with all those in this post saying the same, so I am answering to each and one of you one by one. You should go beyond that part, what you read was the least relevant part, and I am trying to keep things light around here, b/c its been serious business lately.

Yea but that’s not keeping it light it’s making you look like a pompous ass. It’s those kinds of comments that really get under people’s skin.

As far as the rest of it, yes I haven’t been reading many of your fan post for the last 6-8 months or so due to what they were then. If they are better now then great but then all this goes back to a lot of the reasons I stopped following them then.

I do recognize that you love to go back and edit and change up post (sometimes for days after you first put it up)but perhaps you should just write it in word and make sure it’s all correct and what you want it to be first and make sure your giving the proper credit. Of course I would also say to just go with the facts and cut out the over the top spin doctoring but then that seems to be what you enjoy.

If you need to ban him do that, if you need to tell him the next time something like this happens he’s banned do that, but I don’t see the need to tar and feather him in front of everyone like this. I’ve bumped heads with Supremacy as much as anyone but I don’t feel like making an entire thread to bash him is the way to handle this. I should have mentioned I also scanned through the comments on those 30 user blog posts to see if anyone made any comment about the sources or the quotes. It would reason that he would change his sources only after being called out, but no one mentioned anything.
I am not saying he isn’t plagiarizing or not giving proper credit, but, with the exception of this and one or two other isolated incidents, sloppiness, and lack of professional decorum seem just as likely culprits as gross misconduct.

by John Nash on Dec 14, 2009 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

It's happened

Not everyone has time to comb through past entries, but it’s happened more than a few times (his lack of sourcing, at least initially, or suggesting he “heard” something). To be fair, no one is allowed to get away with that sort of thing and most any fanpost/fanshot not containing a link will get wiped off the archives unless the poster adds a source or a staffer recognizes the source of information and does so themselves.

I’ve seen him do that, but with the exception of two cases, I remember it alway being in the comment section, which I hold to a lower standard.
Not trying to defend Sup or attack szucconi, but you got to admit it’s kind of ironic to attack him for not citing sources and yet not provide a link to the source proving your case.

believe me, I wouldn't post this if this was the first time...

almost all of his “sources” is when he asks guys on twitter (gryphonjapan for example), and in forums. and those who are nice enough to give tidbits, he doesn’t give credit to them.. If they are answering in a public site, then they don’t need/want to be anonymous sources… yet this guy just says he has “sources”, or he “heard it somewhere”… there’s rumors… blahblah..

This isn’t some witch hunt or a personal vendetta against sup.. If someone else kept claiming he had sources, but were actually just not crediting people, I’d do the exact same thing…

I won’t be commenting much on this post anymore cause I’ve already said my piece and I think it’s pretty obvious what this guy is doing…If you still believe how he spins things and makes lame excuses, then I guess there’s nothing I can do anymore..

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

I don't want to beat this subject into the ground

But it seems you have problems with his “sources” are more those that appear in the comment section than in his fanposts (with the exception of this example):

Is our standard now that all sources should be cited, even in the comment section? While I agree plagiarism is dreadful, shouldn’t the comment section be held to a much lower standard? mmalogic is constantly hinting at sources but no one demands that he provide a link or source it. And I wouldn’t expect him to either, as long as he keeps this references to the comment section. (Man is it annoying how those two are linked).

by John Nash on Dec 14, 2009 8:11 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Even that example is BS. I told him I had other sources which confirmed the situation, and he was upset because he thought my source was this feed from Twitter. This is one of the most “recent” accusations from Anton.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Dec 14, 2009 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

when did I bring anything up about adding links to the comments? you don’t even know what you’re talking about…

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 14, 2009 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry but that’s what happens when you don’t know how to format properly or put a parenthetical next to a colon.

Anyways I was just making an observation that most of the comments I noticed were directed to material in the comment section. Can’t get too much into it right now And pardon me if none of this makes sense because I’m posting at a play.
Before I go, love your work Anton I just thought it fitting to play a strong devil’s advocate.

by John Nash on Dec 14, 2009 10:19 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

This is bull. Look through all my fan posts or shots, I always give credit to my sources if I can cite anything. Now, I have done it in the comments section before (I stopped doing it since people complained).

Look at the language you are using:

almost all of his "sources" is…
  • So you are saying all of my sources are from Twitter (which is wrong BTW).
those who are nice enough to give tidbits, he doesn’t give credit to them..

3) Those that help me, I “NEVER GIVE CREDIT TO”.

There is so much BS you are saying. You don’t KNOW, you are guessing BASED on a few incidents and are trying to say I do it all the time, which is a complete LIE. Again, take the perctange of all the posts I have made and give me and prove it, instead of using words like “all” and “doesn’t give credit to them”.

This is sad man.

Two things...

MMASupremacy is absolutely and completely in the wrong on this this issue anyway.

Anton definitely went about “punishing” him in the wrong way. What the right way would have been I’m not entirely sure since even a temporary ban would have likely caused an uproar of “ban happy mods” and such.

As a side note, it can be tough making the transition from a member to a part of staff. Things have to handled differently, even if you don’t view yourself differently than you did before. This is a prime example of that kind of situation.

I’d hope both parties learn from this so that future situations don’t come up
