UFC 107 Results: Jon Fitch Decisions Mike Pierce
Jon Fitch, the #2 welterweight on the USAT/SBN Consensus MMA Rankings had nothing to gain against the relatively unknown Mike Pierce and despite being beaten up in the third round, he took a unanimous decision.
Fitch took Pierce down in the first thirty seconds and took Pierce's back. Fitch spent the bult of the round working for a rear naked choke. But Pierce rode it out and with two minutes left he reversed position and dropped Fitch with a big slam. Fitch stood up before Mario Yamasaki restarted the action in the center of the cage. They traded standing to finish the round with Fitch getting the better of it.
In the second round, Fitch came out after having a cut over his left eye doctored in his corner. Pierce muscled Fitch into the cage but Fitch fought him off. Ninety seconds in, Fitch got the takedown and quickly took Pierce's back. But Pierce escaped to his feet. As they traded, Pierce landed nicely but Fitch answered with combinations of his own. With ninety seconds left, Fitch got a second take down and again worked from Pierce's back.
The final round saw both fighters coming out for the win. Fitch got stuffed on repeated takedown attempts. In the clinch, Fitch began to score with hard knees to the body. Pierce scored with a hard left hook up against the cage. Fitch got Pierce down with 1:30 left in the round. But Pierce fought him off. Back in the center of the Octagon, they traded and Fitch landed a knee before Pierce turned it on at the end and repeatedly tagged Fitch with punches after stunning him with a hook. Fitch hung on but ended the fight bloody and stunned.
