Scott Coker talks Strikeforce on Sirius XM Fight Club:
- Dan Henderson has approached Coker about wanting to fight Shields, Mousasi, and Fedor Emelianenko in succession. Coker didn’t guarantee anything, but alluded to the fact that if Henderson is successful in his first bout, it is a likely scenario.
- Alistair Overeem will fight in Strikeforce in the late first quarter, early second quarter of 2010. Both Overeem and Fabricio Werdum are the leading candidates to take on Fedor.
- King Mo will be fighting Mike Whitehead at heavyweight, but will return to 205lbs.
- Bobby Lashley is heading to American Top Team in Miami before he makes his Strikeforce debut, though no date has been confirmed.
- Cris Cyborg vs. Marloes Coenen is targeted for Miami in early 2010, announcement to come soon.
- Tyron Woodley will be on Strikeforce main cards in the late first quarter 2010.
- Anticipates the winner of Josh Thompson vs. Gilbert Melendez to fight Aoki in March or April.
- Josh Barnett is welcomed at Strikeforce once the issues with the commission have been cleared.

NO Dan, you don’t need to fight Fedor. You got raped by Big & Lil’ Nog via armbar in like 2 minutes a piece. (I like Dan BTW).

Correct
He beat Big Nog via LnP decision in RINGS. Big Nog and Lil nog then beat him quickly by armbar in Pride.

Sounds like you really like Dan. So much so you’re distorting the fact his second fight with Big Nog was very competitive and he was submitted in the third rd not in two minutes.

I stand corrected. But, still i don’t think fighting Fedor is best for Dan. If I disliked him, then I would want him to be destroyed, right?

Everybody WANTS to fight Fedor. Mir, Cain, and Carwin want to fight Fedor too!

I have some bad news. We’ve decided to sacrifice you to appease Marius Pudzianowski so he doesn’t destroy the earth.
Keep firing Assholes!
Fedor has accomplished nothing until he fights Kimbo.

Strikeforce is doing alot of positive things lately.
And I’m not one of those who like one promotion more than the other, I love BOTH the UFC and Strikeforce….hell, and WEC, any kickboxing, and even some boxing (smaller fighters only). I’m sure this thread will turn into yet another argument about who’s the better organization, but it shouldn’t. Everyone should see now that Strikeforce is very legit.
I hope you naysayers read this thread and see it for what it is instead of criticizing. Why does there have to be only one league/brand? I can’t get enough of MMA, and one organization would never be able to supply enough action for me (or most of my friends).
Those of us who train at gyms and work our asses off nearly daily also appreciate some of the finer things no one mentions. For instance, normal guys getting more exposure/pay to do something they love to do. Nine to five jobs aren’t for all of us.
Imagine for a moment you are a fighter, and you’re pretty good at it. You’re not going to whip GSP’s ass and take his belt or anything, but you’re pretty solid and well-rounded. Wouldn’t it royally suck if the UFC was the only place you could go to make a decent living?
Strikeforce, and other smaller promotions here and there, provide another place to pursue your career and provide for your family, while – again – doing what you love, instead of punching a clock, sitting at a desk somewhere. There are many other reasons to welcome Strikeforce with open arms, people. They put on great shows and are an intelligent promotion. Granted, they don’t have the best fighters in every division, but with news like the above, they are working out the kinks, for sure.
Give them a chance. Sorry for the rant.

Pre-emptive
If anything you may be sparking such an argument, but I really don’t see any reason one would have occured. We’re pretty civilized ’round here.

for the most part
Definetly not trying to spark anything. I am just saying we should all appreciate how far our sport has come. To be mentioned along with NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL is impressive. The growth is amazing, and Strikeforce is going to be a big part of it’s future. Hopefully a couple more promotions will get started soon. The more, the merrier.

Interesting take.
And I’m totally with you in the ’let’s not deteriorate into another mud-slinging, mine-is-better-than-yours’ crapfest. I’ll suggest the following in the spirit of constructive dialogue:
I think the reason we get upset by what we perceive to be poor busines strategy on the parts of the various promotions is because we mostly want them to succeed. We understand that the UFC is the big dog, for the most part, but we want the other organizations to thrive also.
For the most part, the smaller organizations have all fallen into the same trap, which is to overpay fighters in an attempt, however serious, to compete with the big brand. This has ended disastrously for every single one of them, which makes us more than a little jumpy and nervous when another promotion seemingly wanders down the same path.
I want them all to exist, but they need to know where they can exist profitably and just stay there without too much fuss. So far, none of them have been able to resist.
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.

Sounds like some great stuff from Strikeforce, though I’d be happier if they said Barnett can go fly a kite, I would prefer to never hear about him fighting again to be honest.
I’m with that.

Agreed
MMA should have a universal three strikes and you’re out policy- three positive tests and you get a lifetime ban, no questions asked. Obviously this would never work with the different promotions and fights overseas and whatnot but it would be nice.

Good to see that the delusions of grandeur haven’t gotten the best of Hendo, this guy wanted no part of Nate The Great and now he wants Fedor? good luck with that Danny Boy.

Nice spin.
He wanted Anderson, nothing less. Seriously, there is nobody successful in MMA with more consistently elite competition than Hendo. Rampage is the only guy who readily comes to mind who can compare. There’s a lot of shit to sling, but Dan doesn’t duck nobody.

No one would be happier than Dana if Dan could pull off beating those three! “a guy Anderson silva wrecked goes over and cleans house in strikefarce!”
by havomaster on Dec 12, 2009 12:55 AM EST via mobile reply actions
Plus, Hendo beat everyone in the UFC at MW except for Anderson. Hendo was also the last person to put Anderson in any trouble whatsoever.

Hendo beat “everyone in the UFC at MW”? Everyone he fought that is, which included only Palhares and Bisping, neither of whom are in the top 10. And Anderson was not in trouble at any time in that fight. Did he lose the first round? Yes, but he wasn’t close to being finished.

Yep not bloody likely …Henderson beating Fedor ? That would be epic of course , but not bloody likely . I can’t think of anything Henderson can do better than Fedor , including the wrestling department…
No you’re wrong sounds like you would be happier.
by scrambledeggs on Dec 12, 2009 9:59 AM EST up reply actions
I hate to say it, but I think Dan could give Fedor some trouble…for one round.
He has great wrestling, a head as strong as Russian steel and a will of iron.
Not to mention he is impossible to knockout and has a skillset that almost every fighter has shown a vulnerability to.
I donno , I only like that fight because it’s very marketable , but seriously – Hendo ??
Would you say Henderson vs Lesnar or Henderson vs Carwin is a good matchup ? Probably not , then why on earth Hendo vs Fedor is a good matchup? Yes , Fedor is a small heavyweight but he’s a HEAVYWEIGHT. I don’t know what Dan walks at but it can’t be much more than 205.
Other than that , Fedor is a better striker , better wrestler and better at submissions . And also he’s bigger and stronger. It’s pretty much the Matt Lindland fight all over again. It’s giving ammunition to Fedor haters too .
Why not fight Werdum and then rematch Rogers or Arlovski ? Fedor has 2 more fights as I recall…
And think about it , Dan isn’t even ranked number 1 at middleweight and at LHW he got beat. So it’s pretty much like Anderson Silva fighting Diego Sanchez , it just doesn’t make sense . The main thing tho it IS marketable compared to some of the other options.
Dan is on the same level in wrestling and the linland fight is a bad example, Fedor clung to the ropes like a leech and used it to throw Matt (no matter probably would have still beat him but the point stands). Henderson has fought Eilte HWs before (big Nog) and was competitive. Fedor does not have the best stand up, its just he has amazing eye for openings and takes full advantage of them. Submissions no question its Fedor, but Dan is hard to submitt.
In the end i think Fedor will probably win but to count out Dan is foolish
