Nate Marquardt upset when first offered Chael Sonnen fight:
"We just got back to Denver from Montreal and I heard my fight was announced. I was offered the fight weeks ago but couldn't say anything until it was announced. I will be fighting Chael Sonnen on February 6 in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. Chael is a tough wrestler and is coming off a win against Yushin Okami. I thought I would get a title fight or a fight with Henderson, but neither fight was available, so I accepted the fight with Sonnen. Honestly I was upset at first. Why should I be fighting a guy that lost to Demian Maia three fights ago? After I thought about it a while, I changed my mind. Sonnen is a great wrestler with decent striking and I don't want to wait to fight. Now I am pumped to fight and training has been going great! GSP is in town along with Rashad and all the guys. Let's do this!"

Exactly…it’s sad someone had to point out to him that it’s a safe match up, that’ll keep him active and net him a nice check, and possibly another KO of the night. It’s not Silva, it’s not Hendo…and I’m suprised he didn’t mention anything about Vitor.

This is going to be ugly...
for Chael.
Frankly, if Nate is smart and a bit lucky, he can pull off another highlight reel KO and really add some steam to his title shot whenever it happens.
I think I'd rather see Nate submit Chael
with some of that Jiu-Jitsu bullcrap, because Chael’s a Republican, and they don’t swing that way. ;)

A Nate submission would be fantastic.
Would love to see Nate play some BJJ for a change.

You and me both Nate.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

It should be
Marquardt for the next title shot, and Vitor/ Sonnen for the next shot after that. I love Vitor, and the style matchup he presents Anderson is very intriguing; however, that shouldn’t put him in front of Nate (or Hendo, when he was still in the UFC) for a title shot.
After dropping to MW, Vitor has 3 straight KO’s (Martin- who’s fell off a freaking cliff basically, Lindland- a good win but Matt has always had an iffy chin, and Franklin- good win but at the 195 catchweight and Rich’s chin is also not the best). Marquardt, since losing to Andy, he’s finished 2 (at the time) ranked MW’s- Kampmann and Maia, as well as the nasty Guillotine over Horn and the Tekken- like combo finish over Gouveia (the only blemish being the controversial SD loss to Leites).
