Ryan Bader: "I signed a bout agreement today. Let u know soon, definitely a step up in competition!"
Keith Jardine: "I finally got a fight! Thank you Joe Silva. I'm not saying who yet... ;-)> "
Coincidence?
[UPDATE] According to MMAWeekly the fight will be for UFC 110:
"A light heavyweight bout has been added to the UFC's first trip to the land down under as former "Ultimate Fighter" winner, Ryan "Darth" Bader, looks to keep his undefeated record in tact as he faces "The Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine."

That’s the first thing I noticed. “The Dean of Mean” is actually an 11 year old tween. Who knew?

Striking and experience wise, Jardine has the advantage while Bader has an overwhelming advantage in the wrestling and strength department. While this would be a big win for Bader, this honestly seems like a fight that Jardine can win and may be the favorite, but also it is against a fighter who is not top 10 for once.

He is comng off a bad loss, and several bouts against very strong competition,
The guy deserves a chance to recover (even if it’s not a sure thing).

If he’s facing a 26 year old 10-0 prospect. I don’t think the UFC has Keith Jardine taking a breather in mind.

Ofcourse, i don't think Bader is a breather, but Compare that to
Forrest Griffin, Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, Rampage, Vera (I bet there’s a joke coming up), and Thiago Silva

No longer any need to joke about Vera, he’s done.

Wow. They either really believe in Ryan Bader or they are trying to get Jardine back on track.

I think it's a mix of both..
I think it’s great matchmaking by Joe silva as usual. This fight will really show where both guys stack up at the LHW division.
Good fight..& I also think it’s a win-win situation for The UFC (and bader).
by Anton Tabuena on Dec 2, 2009 12:53 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed 100%. Bader either establishes himself, and shows he can beat a very experienced, tough guy, or Jardine gets back on track against a guy who is very strong and athletic and a great grappler.

I like both guys, but I think that if Jardine can avoid the big punch, he should be able to take a decision. Bader seemed to fade in the second half of his fight against Eric Shaeffer.

He avoided Rampage’s big punches, I think he can slip Bader’s.

but he's so inconsistent
He didn’t quite slip Thiago Silva’s punches, or Wanderlei’s, or Houston’s

Aggressive muay thai kills Jardine every time.
Him vs. Manhoef would be murder. Beautiful, vicious murder.
Bader doesn’t match well with him stylistically. Jardine’s losses all come from the same style of brutal, forward moving muay thai fighters. Bader doesn’t have the skills to replicate that strategy. I know everyone loves to trash Jardine, but remember that brought a solid challenge to Rampage and he’s earned his gatekeeper status by being on the fringe of the top 10. This isn’t an easy fight for anybody, but my heart and head both say the Dean of Mean takes it over the Master.

I still recall him getting droped 2 times in that rampage fight 3 if you count the one time he went down to one knee after getting stuned. Jardine just has major flaws in his defense while trading hands and it has showed BIG time the last few fights especially with more and more fighters watching video tape now. Thiago Silva said all he did was watch a few tapes of Jardine to know he would drop his lead right while thorwing a left hook which made him wide open to Thiagos counter left. And thats exactly what happend. I am still surprised that Greg Jackosn still has not tried fixing Jardines stand up or atleast his defense while throwing a punch. Also Wandy did the same thing baiting Jardine to thorw a leg kick becasue he knew that when Keith thorws that leg kick he does not tuck in his jaw and leaves it exposed. I just think this is Baders fight to win eather with a brutal KO buy watching some tape or just controling him with his wrestling for a 3 round decision. Even if Keith losses I don’t see ther UFC cutting him. If always brings the fight and is a great gate keeper to test your prospects against.

Not sure why so much love for Keith Jardine anyone thinking this is a bounce back fight for him is laughable.
Bader is going to beat the hell out of Jardine.

Riiight
Because Bader really beat the hell out of Marrero and Schafer
by Scott Haber on Dec 2, 2009 10:33 AM EST via mobile up reply actions 0 recs
And that has exactly what to do with the fact Jardine has trouble stopping takedowns and doesn’t take punches well.
by scrambledeggs on Dec 2, 2009 10:45 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Does Jardine struggle defending TDs? Who is the last wrestler he fought?
What Jardine has showed is that he’s nearly impossible to keep down if you do take him down.
by Hardcharger on Dec 2, 2009 11:10 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It has to do with your comment that Bader would "beat the hell out of him"
I was just trying to recall the last time Bader beat the hell out of anyone, other than fellow contestants from his season of TUF.
As others have noted, Jardine scrambles well on the ground and has underrated BJJ, and it’s not like he’s well known for weak takedown defense.
I also don’t think he has to worry about “taking punches well” if/when Bader takes him down…from what I’ve seen his last two fights, once Bader gets on top of you he doesn’t really do any damage.
by Scott Haber on Dec 2, 2009 11:19 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Apparently you’re a Jardine fan ok fine It doesn’t matter to me, but I think the guy is incredibly overrated and will lose again in this fight and not that it has anything to do with this here, but what fight were you watching that you don’t think Eric Shafer didn’t get beat up?
Just because the guy made the distance doesn’t mean it was a close fight. He took a lot of damage in that fight.
by scrambledeggs on Dec 2, 2009 11:24 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not much of a Jardine fan at all
I’m just still waiting to be impressed by Bader.
As far as the Bader-Schafer fight, I’ll concede that Bader was very aggressive and did damage in the first round, but clearly not even close to a 10-8. The second round could be given to Schafer, as he out-struck the visibly tiring Bader and stuffed most of his takedowns. Bader was gassed by the third, but did manage to get the takedown and pretty much laid and prayed on Schafer to take the round.
Other than possibly the first round, I wouldn’t call that a beating at all.
by Scott Haber on Dec 2, 2009 11:56 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i hate it when you're making a point,
then the guy just concedes that “ohh I guess you’re a die hard fan”

Hard to bet against a Vet...
Who’s been in there with Chuck, Rampage, Wand, Thiago, Forrest, Vera, etc… against a guy who’s had some trouble putting lesser fighters away… Jardine may have lost half of those fights, but the experience factor is tremendously in his favor.
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.

If Jardine gets hit behind the ear hes going to sleep every time look at his ko losses. If not he can hang with or beat anyone ii his weight class. I think he might need a win more than people relize hes been getting caught and caught early alot as of late.
by mmatokyo on Dec 2, 2009 11:00 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
It is interesting to see a wrestler like Bader in this division… this division is full of stand up guys, albeit each has their different styles of stand up.
I could really see bader decisioning Jardine… but I could also see jardine’s weird striking be too much for bader.
This is a good step up in competition IMO Jardine isn’t exactly setting the world on fire

I don’t think Bader will show Jardine anything he hasn’t seen 4 times a week with Rashad

Jardine WILL go down
But he gets right back up. He’s one of the best at rising from an opponent’s dominant position. I don’t know who to pick in this fight yet, honestly. Bader is a star in the making, in my eyes. But Jardine is one of the best 205 pound fighters in the world, and certainly the best that isn’t always recognized as such due to his brutal strength of schedule. No matter, this is an awesome fight..
