Great Idea!

I have a feeling that Struve is going to get steamrolled by Buentello and I don’t want that to happen.

I’m not sure, Gromley is supposedly no joke and I’ve heard that he is very competitive in his Black House sparring sessions with Dos Santos and Big Nog.

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

No, Struve’s last opponent Chase Gormley trains at Black House and supposedly does very well in his standup sparring sessions with Big Nog and Dos Santos.

Bascially my point was Struve has had some opposition with heavy hands and while obviously Gormley is not Dos Santos it is a sign that not every heavy hitter will run through him.

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

It’s weird to me that people have a lot of confidence in Paul Buentello at this point. I like the guy, I do, but he’s just not that great of a fighter. I hope he proves me wrong and wrecks a bunch of guys in the UFC and actually earns a title shot.

I say “earns” because, let’s be honest, he just happened to be a warm body that weighed enough big enough to fight Andrei Arlovski the last time he had a UFC title shot.

This card is poor.

Dos Santos does need to fight someone at least halfway decent.

I dislike Matt Hughes. Shogun beat him like a dirty horse.

damn

that is a very weak card for the end of the year. I know its not the UFC’s fault — although I think that they should pay Dan Henderson and get him on board for this card. Henderson vs Marquardt for a title shot is better than either of the 2 headliners they’ve got now.

Agreed

UFC 108 is more like UFC 93 was at the beginning of this year, a solid but far from spectacular card. Can’t say I’m not excited to see Condit get KO’d by Daley though.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

All the great matches have only been delayed 2-3 months, I can wait.

It’s not actually ending the year, though I’m not sure if that makes the circumstance better or worse.

Yeah, at this point, short of giving Hendo what he wants, I think this card is pretty much a write-off. There’s not much more they can do at this point. Solid fights for sure, but nothing special. Normally this wold be the type of card you see sandwiched between two big cards.

Anyway, I feel bad for Condit. I like him, but he gets hit a lot. Normally his quick recovery abilities would help him weather a storm, but Daley is a different story. Daley is only going to need one or two punches to turn out his lights.

The UFC offered vitor a fight with marquardt.

Much better fight than hendo vs Nate IMO.. But it’s a big risk on their part though.

by Anton Tabuena on Dec 1, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

I think its a win win.
Right now you could make a case for either guy being the #1 contender.
This fight would leave no doubt who that is.

I dislike Matt Hughes. Shogun beat him like a dirty horse.

by MonkeyCHops on Dec 1, 2009 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

I’d rather see Vitor against Silva, but it is clear Silva doesn’t really want to fight either of these guys, because he feels they are either undeserving of a title shot (Vitor) or he’s already destroyed them before (Nate). So while it is risky, what does it matter when you have a diva champ like Silva? Have Vitor and Nate fight and have Silva fight the winner. Because if Silva fights Vitor and gets past him, he’ll bring up more reasons as to why Nate isn’t deserving. At least this way we can eliminate another potential Silva delay.

Agreed with this 100%.

UFC 108 is in dire need of another top fight. It also needs a very good opponent for JDS in addtion to a Nate-Hendo type co-main event.

by Hardcharger on Dec 1, 2009 2:48 PM EST up reply actions

This card has been decimated… I can’t even come up with someone for Dos Santos to fight unless they have Rothwell fight him at 108 and do a Cro-Cop/Gonzaga rematch at 110. They could have done Marquardt vs. Belfort on this card for the no.1 contender spot but it took too long for Silva to determine how long he’d be out.

Carlos Condit vs. Paul Daley gets co-main status at UFC 108 New Years UFN 21 card

J/K, it’s not that bad, but this could use some star power

What? No love for Tyson Griffin? :)

The love for Tyson Griffin comes from, as Rogan would say, his “donk”

How about Nelson vs. Dos Santos if he doesnt make it to the finals of TUF?

Also is anyone surprised that with all the injuries that Dana hasnt went running to Liddell?

I mean proven draw and with no star power lately I thought he would be begging Chuck to come back quick.

by bigdmmafan on Dec 1, 2009 3:02 PM EST reply actions

Dana said they’d be meeting with Chuck after the DWTS finale which I believe was last week so we should find something out fairly soon.

by ufc4 on Dec 1, 2009 3:06 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I think the card is pretty solid

just not a great main event. I don’t see Silva having anything for Evans but ya never know. Maybe if they put Dos Santos against another contender than I think it would be a good card.

Remember, this is MMA Bay we're talking about.

Grain of salt, please.

Anybody else kinda want to see JDS vs. Gilbert Yvel?

by pdl on Dec 1, 2009 3:04 PM EST reply actions

I hate Yvel. That being said him and JDS would have a war, and Dana cuttin Yvel after he gets KTFO would be sweet.

WTF is this shit

Looks like a fight night card to me

by kanodogg on Dec 1, 2009 3:09 PM EST via mobile reply actions

i feel like i’m the only one who thinks this card is awesome, maybe not so many ‘name’ fights but hardcore fans should be excited for a bunch of these

by cagefightonacid on Dec 1, 2009 3:18 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I agree with you , but only if atleast 3 prelims are shown.

by bigc4277 on Dec 1, 2009 3:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

for sure, prelims look good

by cagefightonacid on Dec 1, 2009 8:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I love how the standard response to any non-stacked event now is “looks like a fight night card to me”… are you kidding? The last fight night was headlined by Diaz vs. Guillard.

Read on another forum that Marquardt vs. Belfort could be in the works. Not sure about this card though.

Also I was assuming Hazelett would fight on this card — against Ben Saunders maybe?

by lascreenwriter on Dec 1, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions

Don’t get me wrong, I think the fights will be great. I’m just thinking that most “casuals” (god, i hate using that term) probably won’t shill out $50 for this, as there isn’t a CAN’T MISS-type fight on here

We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turning every good thing to rust.

by Anthony Pace on Dec 1, 2009 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

i personally like this card….good matchups is what i want to see not neccessarily the biggest names. but they do need a solid opponent for dos santos and another good main card bout to really make it ppv worthy.

prelims like kampmann/markham and stout/lauzon are solid.

by fightfan531 on Dec 1, 2009 3:26 PM EST reply actions

Thay have Sean Sherk on the under card, if thay were needing names thay would put him in the….yawn… main card

Kimbo wants to take your caterpiller and do bad things to it.

by Mr.Kib on Dec 1, 2009 3:43 PM EST reply actions

So the idea is that co-main-eventer Carlos Condit gets potentially overwhelmed by Paul Daley (very effing possible if you ask me) and gets cut after losing 2 out of 3 in the UFC? From co-Main Event to the streets?

by blawa on Dec 1, 2009 3:54 PM EST reply actions

This card sucks on wheels.

by Michaelthebox on Dec 1, 2009 4:20 PM EST reply actions

It’s cards like this that really make me lament the fact that the UFC lets go of guys like Werdum, Thales Leites, etc. in favor of useless bags of bones like Coleman and Baroni.

by Ahhhoki on Dec 1, 2009 4:42 PM EST reply actions

Werdum was making like $80/80, you better do better than 2-2 in the UFC if you wanna make that kind of money and not be willing to take a pay cut.

by ufc4 on Dec 1, 2009 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

this card is HURTIN. they need to budget price it
