Amir Sadollah vs. Brad Blackburn in the Works for UFC Fight Night 20

15_amir_sadollah_vs_phil_baroni_medium

This Fan Post was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas.

The Ultimate Fighter 7 winner, Amir Sadollah is set to face Brad Blackburn at UFN 20 which will be held in Sadollah's hometown of Virginia. This fight will round out the main card, with Rory MacDonald vs. Mike Guymon confirmed for the preliminary card. The Newark Examiner has it:

As if the UFC's initial foray into Virginia for UFC Fight Night 20 was not stacked enough, it appears The Ultimate Fighter Season 7 champion Amir Sadollah (2-1) will be taking on Brad Blackburn (15-9-1) in a welterweight match.

A source close to the negotiations told me the bout has been agreed to and should be signed by early next week.

I think so too

The other thing is that this is a very quick turnaround for Sadollah in that he just fought very recently. Sadollah is only getting a training camp that will just be a little over a month. I’m very surprised that the UFC gave him Blackburn because I would think that they would want to push Sadollah up slowly, and Blackburn is two or three steps up the ladder and NOT the next step. I would give Sadollah a Paul Taylor, Pete Sell (if he’s still in the UFC) or Kevin Burns.

Kevin Burns

Is what I was thinking..

I meant as his next fight, not thinking that he’d be fighting so soon himself.

Good looking out.

Blackburn is one of the most underrated fighters in MMA right now. Not that the split decision victory did Blackburn any favors, but he’s beaten guys like Heleno, Hieron and Chonan. That should put him on a level approaching the top 10, but as we can see in the most recent rankings, he’s barely cracking the top 25.

The match between Blackburn and Sadollah is very intriguing. A good test for both fighters. I am excited to see this one live!

Im not sure if i would call this a test for Blackburn. Its a stiff test for Sadollah and a chance for Blackburn to get his name out there. I think Blackburn should be a huge favorite here.

by Rabbit915 on Dec 1, 2009 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

I can see why you’d say that, what with Sadollah only having three fights in the UFC proper thus far.

Still, I feel like he’s underrated. I think Blackburn should win this fight, largely because he will have the cardio to stave off Sadollah’s weak muay thai.

I actually think Amir’s MT is pretty good, just too traditional for MMA. Thoughts? I’m no striker…

I thought his technique was fine but his set ups were sort of lacking in that he took a lot of punishment working for the clinch. I also feel that, despite landing some clean knees and standing elbows that he didn’t damage Baroni much. Sure, he dinged Baroni’s face up real nice, but with as gassed as Baroni was and with Baroni giving Sadollah carte blanche to strike him upon his head, Sadollah should have been able to stop the fight.

So when I say Sadollah’s muay thai is “weak,” I mean that literally. The skill is fine, but the power was lacking.

hm I don’t like the Wren/Madsen match-up as I see both being exceptionally good in the UFC.

They want Wren.

I’m curious: what do you think of Roy Nelson and Brendan Schaub?

All weve seen from Madsen is a good shot. He needs to develop a striking, submission or GnP game quickly because wrestling alone isnt going to keep you around very long.

by Rabbit915 on Dec 1, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

Seriously

The UFC is not interested in fighters like him. He’s boring as shit..

You can be boring if you are going to win but if you are going to be an average TUF alum you better do something other than take a guy down and lay there.

Yes

And I thank them for that based on the several occasions I was able to watch him get beaten to a pulp.

I actually like Wren’s chances at making it in for at least a few fights (and seeing how he fares from there), but Madsen’s is just awful to watch. He just shoots and doesn’t do anything with it. Dana hates those types.

No argument about Madsen. I’ve spewed more than enough vitriol about his atrocity of a fight with Abe Wagner.

I kind of like Wren, too. If he develops any sort of cardio, I think he might be able to be a gatekeeper type.

Realistically he should probably be fighting at 205lbs., though. Of course, he has his lunch eaten at 205lbs.
