Wow the brits get no love huh?

Compared to the last couple of events there is no really good underdog pick.

Bisping.

Here’s hoping he tastes some canvas again. And another diving forearm.

Pearson was off the Ultimate Fighter last season right?

by slblair on Nov 8, 2009 7:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah, on the UK team.

This card is pretty bad. I’ll watch the top three fights, but I have a feeling I’ll be fast forwarding through them. Free trash is still trash.

keep watching and someday you’ll appreciate what you’re seeing. If not there might be some nascar on espn 2.

this is probably one of the worst cards UFC has put together top to bottom… definitely wont be watching it, and i havent missed a UFC event in years.

How can it be a good card if Kimbo’s not fighting on it? I mean.. come on!

i could care less if its free man, just because its free dosnt mean that we should see wilks, pearson, brown or riley on the main card .. . the whole card stinks man…… and did i say if the fights are going to be good man?? i said theyv put together a VERY bad main card. So read before you criticize man!

ok good

Don’t watch it. One less person to complain the next day about a free card.

It's all good

It’s free and I’m assuming that there many of us here who have watched much worse cards in hope of at least one good fight. This is a no lose situation especially after a couple of beers. I would think that it would be the noobs who would pass this up.

by Koob on Nov 8, 2009 9:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, because calling a card "pretty bad" before it happens

makes perfect sense.

Not being thrilled with the lineup of fights is one thing, but it’s just plain ignorant and absurd to criticize the quality of an event before it even happens.

If you haven’t missed a UFC event in years, and yet this is the one where you decide to make your “stand”, I’m dumbfounded.

Am I the only person

who thinks Randy is going to get smashed? After rewatching the Big Nog fight over weekend, I really think Randy is going to get battered in the standup.

by fozo on Nov 8, 2009 8:32 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Not you aren't

I think so too. I’ve said for a while that Randy’s best days are far behind him. I would love to see Randy win (or rather, Vera lose) but I just can’t see it happening.

The good news is, when Vera beats Couture we will see that Vera could have been the heavyweight champion.

Plus, MMAth says Vera could beat Liddell, so Vera could’ve been LHW and HW champ at the same time!

Now that’s The Truth.

by Tedd Welch on Nov 8, 2009 9:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No MMAth involved.

Randy was champion. Brock became champion by beating Randy. If Vera can beat Randy, he could have been champion.

That’s pretty direct.

I can’t call the Vera vs Couture fight, mainly because Vera isn’t that good, and Randy is getting slower and weaker as he goes.

Mike Swick will beat Dan Hardy by decision.
Michael Bisping will find some way to beat Denis Kang, probably by TKO (to everyone’s surprise).
James Wilks will use his reach advantage to submit Matt Brown if the fight goes to the ground, but even if it doesn’t, I think Wilks is a better striker.
Aaron Riley is a tough guy and a scrappy fighter, but Ross Pearson is a monster and he will TKO the shit out of Riley in the second round — otherwise Pearson will steal a decision.

by goodbones on Nov 8, 2009 8:39 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah you never want to bet against Randy but at his age speed kills… the only thing going for Randy is that Vera is not proven against top competition… so the question will be is Randy still top competition.

Yup, great point.

by goodbones on Nov 8, 2009 9:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

that’s a lot fo faith you have in little old Ross. Riley is going to come hard at this dude. Vera showed massive improvement in his last fight and I think the matchup favors him.
I like a swick Rileyparlay myself. Of course I reccomend putting jones in there too if you can.

by naturalist on Nov 8, 2009 10:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think this card could produce some real upsets:

Dan Hardy is pretty scarpy and seems to make others fight at his level; With all the circle jerking going around in AKA, its not impossible to think the swick might get kampmanned…

If bisping can focus and not fall into the oblivous traps against Kang he can quite rightly win this…

James wilks is a beast; his got underrated power, speed in his striking and a ground game that looks smooth, i love me some brown but he has got caught going after crafty guys with smooth BJJ.

I also think pearson is the little engine that could he will grind and work riley and either decision him or stop him later on in the 2nd/3rd rounds…

by Beren on Nov 9, 2009 12:11 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Looks like we’re on the same page — I just don’t see Hardy winning beating Swick. He’ll put up a fight, that’s for sure, but Swick is technically better at every aspect and he will dominate Hardy wherever the fight goes.

by goodbones on Nov 9, 2009 2:23 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Hardy has more technical boxing. Doesn’t he train with Freddie Roach?

This is free...free is good

and I think Randy still has enough in his tank to pull out a grinder with Vera.

Or perhaps even an open face club sandwich..

.

by Koob on Nov 8, 2009 9:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Damn...

Comment sections have been getting ultra-heated lately.

Anyways…

I admit that excitement for Hardy/Swick isn’t really high knowing that that winner will probably get smashed by GSP but it’s a good fight nonetheless.

by Tonley on Nov 8, 2009 9:24 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

The problem, in my opinion, is not that the winner will get smashed by GSP, it’s that Dan Hardy is fighting for a shot at the title. Does that mean Marcus Davis, had he won the razor thin split decision, would be fighting Swick (again) for a title shot?

I gotta be honest, Hardy’s performance against Davis wasn’t anything to write home about. He basically won the battle of the head games, which in turn helped him to win the fight.

I guess the 170 talent pool is a lot shallower than we thought.

by goodbones on Nov 8, 2009 9:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Nah, I think it’s pretty deep actually. Fitch, Alves, Kos, Swick, Condit, AJ in the future—all these guys could be champions, if GSP was never born/decided to play hockey. My thinking is that just because one guy is other-wordly good doesn’t mean there’s a lack of exceptional talent in the division.

i thnk hardy gettig this shot is due to right place, right win, right time, and i gues you can say right nationality. Swick got dropped on his head, Kampman loses to a guy who they would never consider for a title shot YET. Hardy is fresh off a win and is building a name for himself from the feud with Davis, and lastly its in the UK so its puts him a shoe in.
I believe they are calling this a #1 contenders match in the thinking that swick will take it but who knows

In the past fans would watch whatever MMA they could get their hands on because there wasn’t much available. Those days are over. Free or not I have better things to do than watch mediocre fights. This card isn’t so bad that I will read the results before watching, but I certainly am not going to watch it live while I have commercials forced down my throat.

I guarantee the Couture/Vera fight will end in a lackluster decision. There’s a reason why this isn’t on PPV. It’s because no one would buy it.

I got Vera, Hardy, Bisping, Wilks and Pearson. Yeah all the Brits will win.
