Scott Coker Says Strikeforce to Announce Two Heavyweight Signings

At the post fight press conference Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker stated that in seven to ten days the promotion would be announcing two big heavyweight signings.  He refused to give any hints as to who the heavyweights in question were but did seem to suggest that they would factor into the upper end of the division.

Looking at the available heavyweights that could fit the bill I would assume one of the two names is Andrei Arlovski.  Arlovski was cageside for the event and there have been rumors in the past that he could be making his way into the promotion.  Despite the knockout losses to Fedor and Brett Rogers, Andrei does remain a legitimate test for almost any heavyweight on the planet.

As for the second heavyweight?  M-1 didn't seem to have much interest in the announcement so I doubt it's Aleks Emelianenko plus Coker said during the lead up to the event that he won't sign him until he clears up his medical issues.  Josh Barnett is too much of a risk at this point for Strikeforce to bring on board.  Jeff Monson isn't a big enough name.

Bobby Lashley perhaps?

Didn’t Renallo say “Strikeforce fighter Andrei Arlovski” when they put him on camera last night? Also hoping for Lashley and AA. Lets string some wins and get some rematches with Brett and Fedor. =)

Has to be Arlovski and Lashley

Can’t remember what wrestling site had a post up about Lashley and TNA having a hard time trying to figure out his schedule since he was gonna become a full time mma fighter. Arlovski has to be more the obvious.

I’m a big Arlovski fan. I guess it makes sense for him and Big Foot to go one on one. He’s already fought Fabricio and Brett though.

He needs another fight. I don’t think he can handle Fedor’s pressure at all. Overeem/Fedor has to be next, in my mind.

Since I was there..

I did see two heavyweight fighters in attendance..Arlovski and Lashley..so I’m guessing it’s a safe bet that you will see SF announcing those two names as the recently signed fighters.

Considering Andrei has fought in the US for nearly his entire career now...

.. and considering he just fought in SF in June, and considering he is not about to go back to the UFC, and considering he was there last night, it would make sense that he is one of them. BUT, I don’t see why he should be treated as some new signing… I was assuming he was still with SF the whole time and was just getting his head right/getting back to training at Jackson’s.

I would also assume that Lashley would be the other one, maybe Yvel though?

by TDITZ on Nov 8, 2009 7:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

AA was still rockin Affliction's joint...

…when he fought Brett Rogers under the Affliction/Strikeforce fighter exchange agreement sort of like what SF has with Dream now. He was never officially part of the SF roster.

Overeem, Fedor, Rogers, Werdum, Silva, Arlovski, Lashley, Johnson, Del Rosario, Roger Gracie, Daniel Cormier.

Pretty good HW roster that only had Paul Buentello and Overeem 2 years ago.

Arlovski has been tied to Showtime for a while. Lashley seems like a go as well. I wonder if they would sign Barnett in the long run, if he can pass a test. =)

by omigawda on Nov 8, 2009 11:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Arlovski and Lashley, probably. Andrei might turn out to be a good signing, actually. Lashley – the way the guy’s been hopping back and forth between MMA and pro wrestling makes me think that SF will not earn any money off him.
