Strikeforce 'Fedor vs Rogers' Results: Fabricio Werdum Takes a Lackluster Decision Over Antonio Silva
In a fight to determine who might get the next shot at Fedor Emelianenko, the #1 heavyweight in the world, neither fighter left fans excited about their prospects to beat the best in the world.
Fabricio Werdum took a unanimous decision.
In the first, Antonio Silva opened the fight by stunning Werdum with a takedown and a barrage of shots on the ground.
But Werdum survived the early onslaught and turned it into a fight by surviving the first round. The second round featured more of the groundfighting you'd expect from two jiu jitsu black-belts. But Werdum was unable to get the submission in the 2nd or do much damage on the ground.
In the third, Werdum took Silva down and got his back with three minutes left, but couldn't keep Silva on the ground. But he tagged Silva with several knees standing while working for another take down. With a minute left, Werdum stunned Silva with a standing knee that dropped Silva. Werdum followed him down and dominated the rest of the fight on the ground.
Fabricio Werdum, the #13 heavyweight in the world came in favored against Antonio Silva, the #22 ranked fighter on the USAT/SBN Consensus MMA rankings.
Werdum washed out of the UFC after getting KTFO'd by Junior dos Santos. Silva was the EliteXC heavyweight champion before testing positive for steroids and spending the last year or more fighting in Japan.

Kid Nate...
I think dana hacked your account
I dunno, Nate. It was pretty exciting. Lots of action early and solid technique late.
I was thoroughly entertained.

Have to disagree
Maybe my expectations have been tapered after watching TUF heavyweights run out of steam after 2 minutes, but I thought this fight was very exciting considering the size of the fighters. There was some vicious blows landed by both fighters, mixed in with a good amount of creative ground game. Better fight than 90% of HW fights.
I loved that fight
We saw some kickboxing, some grappling, a lot of back-and-forth action. I was really impressed. And I wouldn’t say anyone gassed out – they slowed down, sure, but nobody gassed out.
