It sounds like they are promoting Fedor but ALSO selling up Brett in case he wins—unlike their one-sided promotion of Kimbo.

Strikeforce never promoted Kimbo, did they?

I think they are trying to make it sound like a closer match up than it really is on paper.

And who knows, they may be right.

Is it just me or does it seem like the UFC is slowly slipping into last place in terms of video production/promotional videos/intros?

i agree

ufc needs to hire some top notch editors to put together some packages… problem is they have a template and they stick to it, but that can get very boring

by kanodogg on Nov 6, 2009 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

oh, cmon, ufc 104 added rocket punches, what more could possibly be added to perfection

except EARTHQUAKE punche—oh they already did that

by judonerd on Nov 7, 2009 2:13 AM EST up reply actions

Last place?

I guess your saying Strikeforce is doing a better job then the UFC because I cant even think of who else your saying is better than the UFC.

Strikeforce is doing well considering that they had no fight footage really to use for Fedor but I still think the UFC does a hell of a job.

I’d be more interested to see Strikeforce try and sell a bad fight. It’s easy to sell someone on top but look at 106 the UFC is selling a main event where 1 fighter is 0-1-1 in his last 2 fights and the other fighter is 0-2 in his last 2 fights and they will still get at least 300k buys.

Dream’s production for Dream12 was great, imho.

In my opinion, UFC’s production overall is still the best.

Dream is easily number one. They’ve taken over the Pride spot of coolest videos. Dream 9’s intro video was amazing.

by John Nash on Nov 6, 2009 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

Dream’s last promotion videos are better than the UFC countdowns. The 24/7 boxing series is better than the UFC countdowns. The showtime 360 show is better than the UFC countdowns. Its not going to be long before the UFC realizes they need to step it up. In my opinion considering where the UFC is at this point in time as far as a company as a whole, Their “countdowns” should already be way better than all those promotions mentioned above. They are seriously lacking sometimes I watch the countdowns and wonder where they hire the people who are putting the show together. I could do a better job with my dads old mac and final cut pro.

by buttters on Nov 6, 2009 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

That 360 show was a load of crap. I was bored to tears. It was awful. There was nothing in that show that made me want to watch the fight. Watching Rogers get a haircut while talking on his phone is not quality programing.

by swells2048 on Nov 6, 2009 11:52 PM EST up reply actions

Ya it was horribly dull as a Fedor fan, can’t imagine a casual would even sit through it.

24/7 is leagues ahead of 360 or UFC Countdown.

Surely you’re kidding!

Every major Japanese promotion is head and shoulders above the UFC aesthetically. Even the ones with about 1/50th the budget.

I’m actually not ready to say that Strikeforce is better yet, though—I disliked almost everything about the production their last big show.

An example of what the Japanese could do …one of the most amazing fight clips I’ve seen

meh

Why be creative when you can add the same tired rap or heavy metal to a video and call it a day?

The Pride 2003-5 Final Round GP videos I think were better than anything I’ve ever seen from the UFC. 2004’s my favourite. 1/6000000000! The UFC has a simple format that they stick to quite closely. Have fighter standing, looking muscular in room with water spraying on them (?) while Dana/Rogan hype them up over fight clips. Its slick, and a pretty good vehicle for hyping up the fights, but pretty easy to emulate. I think Pride and Dream though, occasionally had the ability to take it to a real art form. Here’s 2004 Pride opening video

Whatever happens, get ready for some Gus Johnson..

by sadface on Nov 6, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions

This is what I have been saying all week lol. It really is at least for me hard to sit there and bear through his clueless remarks. Strikeforce needs to let the skeleton people and Gus Johnson go for good. The dude is fine in football and basketball but shit is he seriously horrible for mma.

by buttters on Nov 6, 2009 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

Damn man

It’s such a shame they can’t use any actual footage. Interesting way around it, but lacks a lot of power that the actual clips would have.

ha. great minds think (kind of) alike. the quick frames are better than nothing (which is what they were using in the tv spots). at least they get arlovski and sylvia on there for the few people who are strictly ufc fans.

It looked kind of cool to me. Better than nada.

shoulda been using the still photos from the affliction fights all along. smart way around the lack of video footage.

by woooburn on Nov 6, 2009 10:01 PM EST reply actions

This was better than their commercial. Also better than the 360 piece which nearly put me to sleep and if I wasn’t a fan nothing they have done so far would have gotten me to watch.

by swells2048 on Nov 6, 2009 10:15 PM EST reply actions

you know what'd be funny?

If fedor gets knocked out without even being hit, sort of like Kimbo Slice! haha. Sorry. The whole king thing bothers me so I do hope Rogers will make him humble but don’t bet on it.

by cyrusking on Nov 6, 2009 11:58 PM EST reply actions

Of all people to want to see “made humble,” you choose Fedor. Seriously? He’s gotta be the most humble great fighter ever. Just going by his interviews and personality, no one would even guess that hes a winning fighter, let alone the most dominant fighter in the history of the MMA.

by neyvit on Nov 7, 2009 12:54 AM EST up reply actions   1 recs

yeah because Fedor is so damn egotistical. He needs to be humbled.
