I still think 20-18 Evangelista… but I could see someone thinking that kick stole the round.
by BTastros on Nov 7, 2009 12:49 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
It was easily the most effective thing that happened that round, but Evangelista obviously controlled the rest of the round. Close to call.

Hows about this for a scoring system. For the first four minutes of the round, it isn’t scored, and then fight is scored on the last minute of each round.
I call it the MMA 10-Point Must System.

by omigawda on Nov 7, 2009 1:00 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Not really. He won round one by a takedown if at all. He won round two by positional control if at all, and at best he drew in round 3.

Desite the legitimacy (or lack thereof) of the stand-up
That kick was the most effective strike of the round easily, and could be judged to have been more effective than the 4 minutes of ground work.

Billy still controlled most of the round, landing the best strike doesn’t negate that in my opinion.

He got dropped in the second and Gurgel sunk in a decent gullotine.
