Sources close to the event that Le has verbally agreed to face slugger Scott Smith (16-6) at the recently announced “Strikeforce: Evolution” event on Dec. 19 in San Jose, Calif.

odd that he would relinquish his belt, and then return to action a month later… but at least he’s gonna fight.

by woooburn on Nov 6, 2009 7:25 PM EST reply actions

So Cung Le vacates his title

to fight a lesser opponent 1 month after they crown a new champion? Maybe he didnt know what his schedule was gonna be like but still.

Better test would have been Jacare and read I said better test not better fight.

It’s a lot like how Hendo is a better test then Belfort for Silva. Smith is just gonna stand and trade with Le which is exactly what he wants just like Belfort will stand and trade with Silva. The better test is when you are out of your game how you will react.

I bet Vitor is going to smash Anderson and I also bet that Scott Smith will beat Cung Le. That or Cung Le will look like shit.

Also did Melendez get injured and I missed it?

Otherwise why else wouldnt you have the lw champion vs. the interim lw champion like you were supposed to in August?

Wow, Cung Le is back!

I have to give Strikeforce props – they are putting on some VERY solid cards recently. The EliteXC and Affliction meltdowns plus the Dream partnership has infused them with some amazing talent and great matchup potential, and they are pushing it.

If Cung should beat Scott Smith, I want to see Nick Diaz vs. Cung Le! Fight of the year candidate looming.

by Numbers on Nov 6, 2009 7:51 PM EST reply actions

i would like that too

although i think Cung needs to move down to 170lbs. he barely even makes 180lbs

Strikeforce has got a decent 185 div now. Moving down would really help the WW situation. Plus I would to see him against Diaz or Marius.

Chun Le would get Submitted in the first round, Id must rather see Scott Smith vs Chun le tbh.

I’ve got a lot of love for Scott Smith, but he’s going to get tooled badly in this fight. Even taking into account possible ring rust, Le is just too fast and technical for a brawler like Smith.

Diaz was dominating Smith on the feet

and I expect Le to make him look even worse.

Is this going to be on CBS or Sho?

Is this Le finishing his contract before he moves on to greener pastures?

by Jahbulon on Nov 6, 2009 8:49 PM EST reply actions

I hope Scott Smith punishes Le.

by buttters on Nov 6, 2009 9:06 PM EST reply actions

Wow after reading all these comments I’m surprised at how many people are that impressed with Cung Le and actually thinks he is going to do well against the likes of Scott Smith, Nick Diaz, Ronaldo Jacare, shit even Jake Shields. In my opinion all those guys would beat Cung Le and go as far as make it look bad. I’ll just wait creepily until it happens and someone forces this guy into retirement or to dropping to WW.

Scott Smith beating Cung Le? you’re not serious?

Yippee. The annual Cung Le fight.

by Monday Morning Martial Artist on Nov 6, 2009 9:31 PM EST reply actions

ugh… Cung le should fave Frank Shamrock over Scott Smith… I would much rather see Lawler vs le as well
