Choice parts:

On Fedor:
Well he is certainly the best heavyweight in the world. But he does have weaknesses. We all do – isn’t that what
makes champions great – they win even with weaknesses? They win even though they can be beat? He is not a machine.

On Alistair Overeem:
I want to fight soon, and I want to fight Alistar. I’m 100% healthy and took zero damage in the fight; so I’m ready to go right now. As I said Strikeforce is my home; I love Strikeforce and in my opinion Alistar holding the title belt is an insult to every fighter in this organization, every fan and to Scott Coker. Champions defend their titles. And either Scott strips him and real fighters battle for it; or I will take it off him the hard way.

His personal top-5 heavyweight list:
Fedor, Me, Werdum, Cain,Barnett

He got a pretty good concussion in the Fedor fight, and Megareem is better than he is at everything he is good at.

He loses credibility...

…with his top-5 HW list. Unless he was joking and you just can’t tell in text. If that’s the case, than Rogers is a funny guy!

I liked his quote about what makes champions great but that top 5 is a joke.

Is that his top five as far as Heavyweights that he would like to fight, or is that his list for top 5 Heavyweights? Just take Barnett and Werdum off that list and it would be understandable.

by chrisbboy82 on Nov 30, 2009 8:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

IDK, can’t imagine him wanting to fight a guy with the ground skills of Werdum or Cain. Not saying he wouldn’t just that I think he’d rather fight someone who’ll box with him.

by ufc4 on Nov 30, 2009 8:53 PM EST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

I think the Werdum is not as bad as matchup for him as some would think, because while his grappling skills are incredible, he’s never really had great takedown abilities. Brett might be able to keep that fight standing where he’s got a shot. His big matchup nightmares have got to be Cain and Brock where he’ll probably end up on his back eventually.

by nottheface on Nov 30, 2009 9:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think this is his list is for the best 5 heavyweights and I think we can easily infer why he chose who he did:
Fedor – because he’s Fedor and he just lost to him.
Himself – because Brett is not lacking in confidence.
Werdum – because he’s another Strikeforce HW he might fight, and one who has been dicked over by Overeem a well. (I get the sense Brett sympathizes with Werdum getting skipped over in a fight by AO)
Cain – because he likes the guy and sometimes trains with him
Barnett- see Cain above.

If you look at how he presents himself as a Strikeforce fighter now, and how he excludes all UFC fighters, with the exception of Cain, from his list, I’m thinking this is directly related to Dana White’s comments about him before the fight. I think Dana offended him with all his jokes at Brett’s expense.

Probably all true, doesn’t make the list any less ridiculous.

Is it a “correct” list? no

but he’s just being a company man. Like many of the UFC heavyweights that leave Fedor off their top heavyweights list

Which UFC heavyweight has left Fedor off their top heavyweights list

Just curious if you have a reference for that statement.

Off the top of my head Mir and Carwin said he hasn’t fought anyone recently and/or was ducking the UFC.

by nottheface on Dec 1, 2009 12:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

In fairness neither of them said he wouldn’t be in their top 5 HW’s.

by ufc4 on Dec 1, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

My thoughts too

I know a few of them don’t have him as #1 for that reason, but I don’t think any of them have omitted them from their personal top 5… But I could be wrong, that’s why I asked Brent.

Looks like Brett is mentioning Strikeforce a lot more now thanks to that Knockout

Before he wasn’t mentioning SF as much…talking as if he may even go to the UFC to fight the best fighters…now that he realizes it won’t happen (well not soon atleast) he’s talking just how a sf fighter should.

Overeem would beat Rogers. IMO

So would Arlovski

Yep, since Overeem has Arlovski’s chin, since Arlovski successfully bangs with K1 fighters, and since Arlovski’s got wicked knees and is known for his aggression.

I would love to see Overeem and Rogers go at it more than I’d like to see the next series of UFC heavyweight fights.

Why isn’t Ken Shamrock on his top five list? Ridiculous.
