UFC 110 Preview: Michael Bisping Talks Wanderlei Silva

"My plan is to go to Australia 2 weeks before the fight. I'll be training at the Wolf's Lair from now and keep improving."

"I'm sure Wanderlei can make the cut to 185. But it's never easy making weight, it sucks. It won't be an advantage."

"Zach Light is a long time trainer of Rampage and Mario Neto both know Wanderlei very well. Hopefully we'll get Rampage in the training camp as well. But that's not confirmed. No one is going to know Wanderlei better than Rampage."

"About Wanderlei - I'll adjust as necessary. If the fight isn't going my way, then I'll go for a takedown. I always go out looking to throw strikes. That's what I want to do. I was still a little hesitant in the Denis Kang fight. If that's not working out, then I'll look to take Wanderlei down and control him and look to ground and pound him there. I think I can ground and pound anyone in the division. If I get him down and get on top of him, there's not a thing most people can do about it, to be honest."

Photoshop posedown, well done

Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

Agreed.

I had to look twice to see it was photoshopped.

Great job Nick!

i do enjoy the shopped staredowns.

If you’re that confident in your GnP why would you mess around with any other strategy? GnP is just as gratifying as slugging it out in my opinion.

by YoungGun on Nov 30, 2009 2:06 PM EST reply actions

I know Bisping’s GnP was nasty on Kang, but I really don’t see Silva wilting like that.

Silva via axe kick (how many fanboys will cream if this actually happens?)

BTW, this card is fucking awesome, I feel bad for Europe…

remember when he wanted to take down hendo and ground and pound him? Yea i guess that makes Bisping a liar about being able to ground and pound anyone in the division.

by JoLy on Nov 30, 2009 2:13 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

He DID shoot a takedown

and Hendo flat out laughed at him

by Shaun32887 on Nov 30, 2009 2:59 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

Well in all fairness

He did say “if I get him down and get on top of him.” He had no chance of taking Hendo down. I kind of agree with him, if he got Hendo on his back he probably could control him, but there was no way he was taking down an Olympic caliber wrestler. Bisping is still wrong though, there is no way he can control Maia.

Chris Lytle is back . . . great!

I didn’t see Bisping beating Dennis Kang.
I do not see Bisping beating Wanderlei Silva but stranger things have happened. This should be an exciting fight.

Bisping will kill Silva. I don’t particularly like him, and think Hamill beat him, but he is a pretty good fighter. He should pick Silva apart.

I hope you’re right. I thought he would pick apart Hendo and boy was I wrong.

I've been reluctant

to pick Wandy for several fights now, but I have a feeling this will be his kind of fight to win. His recent losses have come to guys with some pretty good power in their hands (Liddell, Hendo, and Jackson) while Bisping poses almost no KO threat to Silva. Can Bisping get Silva to the ground and do some real damage? I don’t believe so. Cue Goldberg – “The Axe Murderer is BACK!”

My username should make my feelings on the fight pretty clear.

If Wanderlei loses to Bipsing I will wail and rend my clothes.

Message to Wanderlei: Work on your takedown defence.

I know it’d be tough to do, but if he can just manage to keep it on his feet (and Bisping doesn’t have amazing takedowns) he has a decent chance of stalking Bisping and murdering him. Otherwise Bisping sticks and moves enough to eke out a decision.

by TLow on Nov 30, 2009 3:47 PM EST reply actions

I love when he says he can take people down.

Ugliest single-leg in the sport. Can’t believe he got Kang down with that shit.

by The Kittitas Kid on Nov 30, 2009 5:41 PM EST reply actions

it got him down

Bisping can’t worry about style points. He’ll never take people down like Couture. He can just keep working on it. And while you say you “can’t believe he got Kang down with that shit,” he did so its clearly working. Nobody has challenged Wanderlei on the ground in as long as I can remember so its not a bad idea.

by mason_beer on Nov 30, 2009 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

It also helped that Kang had pretty much given up and checked out of that fight aer he gassed in the 2nd round. Thats Kang though ounce it starts going bad its real bad and ounce he gets tired he mentally checks out. Not the hardest fighter to take down at that point.

by Shocbomb on Dec 1, 2009 6:06 AM EST up reply actions

lol

Poor Bisping. Even when he wins, he didn’t win to some people…

Ok people people lets not get ahead of ourselves
1. Bispings takedowns and gnp are way overratted
2. Wanderlei is a bjj blackbelt and is sick off his back + he has good takedown defense
When has anyone ever seen wandy getting gnp’d or be controlled on the ground. If you even say tito i’ll laugh.

by mr. gogoplata on Nov 30, 2009 6:05 PM EST reply actions

Crocop???

gnp’d him pretty good :)

by espino on Nov 30, 2009 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

How much weight did CC have on Wandy?

by fedorade on Nov 30, 2009 9:45 PM EST up reply actions

If I recall, Wandy weighed more in that fight

I don’t recall the weights but just looking at the size difference I can’t see Wand weighing more in eather CroCop fight.

by Shocbomb on Dec 1, 2009 6:08 AM EST up reply actions

If you can find the video I’m pretty sure during the in-ring staredown Ranallo says Wandy weighed in like 5 pounds heavier or something like that. This is for the second fight

he fought cro cop at his best and gave up a bunch of reach. He got mydered.

Lets not forget though CroCop Vs Wand 1 was a Draw and a hell of a fight.

It's not funny

But it’s the only term for the maneuver that will end this fight.

Tough fight for Bisping especially to step up to someone like Wanderlei. I can see Wanderlei just KOing Bisping. I’ve seen Wanderlei taken down, but he hasn’t been defeated by GnP. The thing to look out for is how the weight cut will affect Wanderlei.
