NOOOOOOOO.
I was really looking forward to seeing that fight live.
Fighters are training too hard now.

It's true. They have to find a better way to strike the balance and come in in peak form.
Jesus, what a year for injuries.

Stefan Struve is a horrible consideration for an opponent. Struve could be good after being built up. Fighters like Duffee JDS and Cain Velasquez are in no need of being given build up fights. They should prove where they are at this point in their careers and it will be a bad move on the UFCs part if they keep giving these up and comers “tune up” fights. From a match maker who is trying to make sense out of the contenders picture it never made sense to have Todd Duffee fight Buentello. That was a dumb fight im glad its off. Now make a fight that will be exciting and relevant to the HW title.

Wait… you’re saying Buentello was a “tune-up” fight?
by midwestbred on Nov 4, 2009 1:55 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
heh you are right man I should not have said “tune up” fight about Buentello I didn’t really mean him as a tune up I meant in general they should have more evenly matched fights as they seem to be more exciting than a one way snoozer. Although I have to say that the Buentello/Duffee fight was immensely unmatched. Its more than obvious the UFC set that much up in hopes that Duffee won so that he could be considered an up and coming contender the same way Velasques has been treated with fights by the UFC. The way Overeem beat up Buentello about 3 years ago (Out side of the UFC mind you) is a clear reason why Buentello would have been the underdog. He is 27/10. Is a veteran (Some would say old). In my mind this was Duffee’s fight to win and the UFC knew that given they acknowledge Duffee has showcased more potential than say a Stefan Struve.

I get what you’re saying now. Respect for giving such a good explanation!

Thats crazy. Buentello is totally legit and has a very entertaining style. I’m glad its off, but just because I didn’t want to see either guy lose.

This would be Todd Duffee's second fight in the UFC
and only his sixth fight overall. He will be great one day, and I think he has the potential to be a champion, but Buentello is exactly the kind of fighter he should be fighting right now.

Buentello could’ve been replaced, Duffee can not – the whole point of the fight was that it was his first step towards being a contender.
Bloody hell.

I quote James Woods from Any Given Sunday:
“What’s next, stigmata!?!”
This is absolutely hilarious (in a non funny way). Just using the fighters who have had to pull out of events recently, the UFC could have a mega card.

I would’ve picked The Burrito to win, too. Bah!

Buentello was going to win that fight. Probably for the best for Duffee to pull out.

Agreed
I imagined it ending up like Buentello-Sidelnikov, minus the flab.

there is a big name for Duffee

I think having him face off against a guy coming off of TUF, who probably wouldn’t pose to many problems for Duffee would be the best thing the UFC could do. It would let him get a fight against a guy the average fans might recognize, and it would set him up for another big win

Head Hunter would have tooled this dude around.
IMO Buentello is far more seasoned and his stand up is one of the best in HW.
