What happened to Coker's big announcement?
Right after the Fedor/Rogers card, Scott Coker said he would be announcing the signing of two big Heavyweights in seven to ten days.
That was on Nov 7th. I wonder what has happened that those signings have not taken place. I am sure one was Lashley, as it sounded like it was a done deal. It also seemed likely that Arlovski was the other one.
Maybe they are going to hold off and announce at the next show? If so, it is odd that he would publicly set a timetable for making an announcement.
MAybe the UFC has stepped up and entered bidding? It is the only other reason I can think of.

Please ignore the period after Lashley. I’m a little buzzed.

If you’re going to do that it needs to be amended to “Don’t be War Machine and post”
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
I’m glad you mentioned this as I had forgot it. I’m sure if Dana White had said the same thing Supermacy would be all over him by now.
No one will ever touch Dana White’s streak of consecutive “HUGE ANNOUNCEMENTS ©” which were really nothing at all.

Remember that Dana is actively trying to block Strikeforce from signing ANYONE not named Hendo…so I wouldn’t doubt that Dana has tried to match SF’s offers to both guys.
http://www.mmarecap.com
I don’t know, I have a hard time believing Zuffa has much interest in either of those guys at this point. AA maybe but not for more than maybe a $30,000 base.
After they signed Phil Baroni…? No offense, Phil’s a warrior but he’s clearly not UFC calibur unless he was brought in to make Amir look good…
http://www.mmarecap.com
Difference is
Phil agreed to a 25k base salary.
Hell if anyone agreed to a 25k base salary that had a semi-recognizable name the UFC would sign them. Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett. A 25K base is nothing to the UFC.
But chance are after making 1.5 million to lose to Fedor, AA is not gonna be looking for more than 25k-30k base. Hell I doubt even with a 60k to show 140k to win AA would still turn it down.
i think they were close to signing AA and Lashley as they have been in serious talks with both..
i wonder what happened though.. thanks for reminding me about this. :)
Their meeting with CBS happened…
I said what the indicators were on whether or not CBS was happy with the results. Remember no matter what Zuffa will be countering the next show with a live program (even if its on spike) so at worst for Zuffa and at best for CBS they will split the demo gains which was about the only good metric that came from that show.
If they sign hendo or lashley that means they will have another show. If they sign both they got a better commitment than last time and if they sign neither they are most likely done.
I believe he is referring to CBS and MMA, not Strikeforce as a promotion.

The announcement being posponed has nothing to do with Zuffa.
It’s still happening, as of last week via Josh Gross. Strikeforce is working on a TON of stuff fight now for next year already. =)

While I would hope so, I mean next year is 32 days away. Are we supposed to be proud of them for this?

Whos talking about being proud? Signing two fighters is really small news compared to what they have planned for next year.

What big announcement?

In Idaho, it's illegal to f--- a porcupine. You know why? Because someone tried it.
I think they're finally going to announce signing Lashley..
After this extremely long delay I will be fighting soon. I’ll post the details in a couple days hopefully. Now I can train with a purpose!

Like I have said before, I expect him on the Jan 30th show. =)

I thought the “big announcement” about signing new heavyweights ended up being King Mo and Whitehead who are supposedly fighting Dec. 19th…..at heavyweight. Obviously not what we hoped for.
NO LASHLEY
Lashley will never fight for Strikeforce. I don’t even think he really wants to be a fighter. That’s an official Nostradumbass prediction.
It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.
so this quote is just pure BS and he's just training for a TNA matchup? haha ;)

it may not be in SF, but he said he will be fighting soon.. so i guess he really does want to be a fighter. Would people be surprised if the UFC was the one who got him?

Coker isn’t usually the type to go on record saying he has announcements and then go silent… that is odd.
As far as Strikeforce working on a “ton of stuff” for 2010… don’t we already know what that stuff is? Fedor vs. Werdum, Diaz vs. Hieron/Zaromskis, Cyborg vs. Coenen/Toughill, more cans for Woodley to beat up, new cans for Lashley to beat up, etc. The only thing I’m really looking forward to is Diaz fighting Zaromskis or Shields fighting Zaromskis. And I want to see how Brett Rogers does in his next fight.
Not exactly a lot of possibilities to figure out though. Oh, and Hendo vs. Mousasi… yippee!
MMAWeeklycom:
Rep: Roger Huerta had 4-hour meeting with Strikeforce on Sunday, Strikeforce “very serious” about acquiring him.
is this a new story?
can i see the actual link.. I don’t think I read that part.
by Anton Tabuena on Dec 1, 2009 5:03 AM EST up reply actions
This would be a good decision for Huerta. Too many good wrestlers in the UFC for him to put on a winning streak.
by MMAWrestling on Dec 1, 2009 12:04 PM EST up reply actions
Didn’t stop Kenny Florian. (Or Roger Huerta, for that matter.)
by JRN on Dec 1, 2009 2:53 PM EST up reply actions
True
But what were the records of the people that Huerta beat? From what I can remember off the top of my head, they weren’t good and all out of the UFC after the loss. I think he’s a good young fighter, but won’t be able to progress against the top wrestlers in the UFC, that his popularity and new salary will force him to fight.
Huerta got a bunch of UFC debutantes before Guida. Florian is really the better example, since he fought his way to a title shot without facing a wrestler any better than Joe Stevenson.
