ATT promises an improved Kimbo Slice vs. Houston Alexander:

Conan Silveira: "The expectation is huge, we’re working hard with Kimbo, improving his game, sharing our experiences of training… I believe that he’s gonna get this victory. People will see a better Kimbo."

Considering that Kimbo should be vastly improved I update my pick:

Original: Alexander by KO, R1 :45

even kimbo has a punchers chance vs houston. james irvin knocked him down in how many seconds?

1 James Irvin has proven power, he would be doing much better if he didn’t keep getting injured.

2 Kimbo hit James Thompson 1200 times right on the button and couldn’t put him down.

3 Kimbo will be cutting weight for the first time ever

4 Kimbo is not James Irvin

it says punchers chance. that's all. 1200 times you counted? i think your math is incorrect

j.t.’s ear did blow wide open with blood spewing everywhere. kimbo haters are a dime a dozen. peace.

kimbo haters are a dime a dozen.

So are people who use “haters” when they know they haven’t been able to make any other argument. Its all cool though, we’re just fans talkin’ and emotional responses are natural. :)

I’m an old school Kimbo fan from his YouTube days and have nothing but love for him, but all of Noober’s analysis is correct based on how Kimbo has performed in MMA.

by asa on Nov 27, 2009 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

i think kimbo hustled better than anybody in mma history

posted fights on you tube. got into elite xc. got on tuf 10 show. now has a fight with houston a. i call that hustling and i give him his props.

Yeah, I mean there’s a guy you can be proud of, I hope my sons grow up and hustle just like Kimbo.

Better than someone sitting behind a computer screen taking shots at people.

Just saying.

If my kid worked for a porn company, makes millions by being a marketable fighter, and has a happy family, not to mention knows where to find some good weed, I suppose I won’t have any complaints.

I don’t know where you’re getting your info from but I can pretty much guarantee Kimbo hasn’t made “millions” from fighting. As for the other stuff, I guess we have different values.

by ufc4 on Nov 27, 2009 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

Elitexc paid him 500k for his last fight against Seth..

He had multiple fights. There’s also sponsors, and endorsements, plus other bonuses. The UFC probably gave him a signing bonus too, plus now he’s got tapout and others as New sponsors now that he’s in the UFC.

I’m pretty sure he made millions.

by Anton Tabuena on Nov 27, 2009 11:34 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

How much of that $500K did Kimbo actually get? Maybe a third? The sponsors probably pay him more than his actual fighting does but at the end of the day I would be surprised if Kimbo has acually seen millions go into his own bank account.

by ufc4 on Nov 27, 2009 11:41 PM EST up reply actions

i don’t know if anyone else gets his money, (he does have a HUGE entourage) but i do know he got a ton of cash.. more than anyone on his skill level will ever get close to..

by Anton Tabuena on Nov 28, 2009 1:18 AM EST up reply actions

I’ll agree with that, he definitely makes a lot more than anyone else with his “skill” level ever has.

Because he is on an MMA blog and Jon Jones is on his way to being a superstar

If you are going to exagerate Kimbo’s puncher’s chance I get to exagerate the number of punches he landed in the Thompson fight.

It’s only fair.

I’d have to agree with you there. I like Kimbo, he seems like a cool dude, but as a fighter who has been touted as someone having great KO power, I don’t see it. Like you said, he hit Thompson so many times, it was silly, yet he couldn’t get him down. Houston is going to be all over Kimbo standing, or on the ground from top position. Regardless, we all know Houston has devastating KO power. We’ll see if Kimbo has the stuff, but I’m still picking Houston by vicious KO. If Seth could drop Kimbo, so can Houston.

I love me some Sexyama!

I thought in the JT fight that he was out on his feet a couple times but went into autopilot and grabbed a single leg to recover until his ear got popped.

by YoungGun on Nov 27, 2009 6:15 PM EST up reply actions

He may improve in the gym, but once he gets hit in the fight, all that training will fly out the window for what’s intuitive & instinctual.

THIS

Is my concern as well. I love the guy and his charisma is great for the sport, but its gonna be hard for him to adapt this quickly.

Maybe the WEC? Feed him untested heavyweights while also increasing WEC’s awareness? Versus would prolly like that too. Zuffa can profit off his name while he gets better but not make the UFC’s goal to make this a legit sport with no freakshows.

by asa on Nov 27, 2009 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

Really doubt Zuffa is willing to add a whole new weight class in the WEC just to keep Kimbo around.

by ufc4 on Nov 27, 2009 6:19 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I hope for Kimbo's sake that he does at least look decent.

I’m not rooting for him to fail. I do, however, find it hard to believe he is vastly improved or a different fighter… yet, at least. Training at ATT is a step in the right direction, though, and nobody can deny that.

by TDITZ on Nov 27, 2009 4:01 PM EST reply actions

I hope for Kimbos sake he takes this fight.

If he loses after oh well but he at least will gain a little respect back

by ElStIkO on Nov 27, 2009 4:31 PM EST reply actions

IF Kimbo could actually fight, he would take MMA completely mainstream and make tens of millions of dollars.

I like Kimbo...

but I’m tired of being lied to. If he has tricked me once again and isn’t “improved” then I’m done cheering for him.

by BakiHanma21 on Nov 27, 2009 5:32 PM EST reply actions

doesnt ATT have twentysomething blackbelts?

If he doesn’t improve will all that ground skill, he never will.

by willydynamite on Nov 27, 2009 6:02 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I hate to be negative but I doubt he’s going to ever improve at his age

by cagefightonacid on Nov 27, 2009 6:28 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Pretty sure Kimbo is still gonna look like a turtle on his back against anyone with more than 2 years of jiu-jitsu.

Even if beats Houston, then what? Where does he go from there? Fight the winner of Rashad and Thiago? Fight Forrest? Fight Rich Franklin? Luiz Cane?

There is nobody at 205 I can see him getting matched up with where he has a good chance of winning. Even Stann, Cantwell, etc in the lower tier would be an unlikely victory for him.

I like Kimbo as a person, but I think he is going to get demolished in the 205 pound division. And we’re going to be stuck with him on the main card, like Dollaway and Browning were.

by DirtyML on Nov 27, 2009 6:13 PM EST reply actions

Except he has wrestlng, loads of power in his hands and enough technical boxing to crush kimbos face in. Plus, i think greg jackson can give him the perfect gameplan to find the gaping holes in everything kimbo does.

I wonder what kind of thought he put into picking his camp I understand he’s from Florida and ATT is absolutely a legit camp but if it’s his ground he needs to work on wouldn’t it be better to get into a strong wrestling camp. Militech or Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts academy would seem like a ore logical choice. Just my opinion and for the record I think ATT’s an awesome camp.

by drano on Nov 27, 2009 9:13 PM EST reply actions

Kimbo’s from Florida, I don’t think he would have a lot of fun in Minnesota in the winter.

The worst thing about winter would be the darkness. In the dead of winter there the sun comes up at about 9am and goes down at about 4. Not getting any sun is extremely depressing, especially if you are far from home and cold all the time. He would get a severe case of the blues and his training would suffer.

hmm I never thought about that, it’s so rare though that you find someone who is really willing to do what it takes to propel them to the top of this sport I look at a guy like GSP who did exactly what he had to and is now considered one of the best wrestlers in MMA
