Mike Reilly from Team Bison, Brett Rogers’ head trainer talks Fedor vs. Rogers:
PDG: You mentioned that before; that even though none of Brett’s fights had gone to the ground you guys had been working on his ground game extensively.
Mike Reilly: ... I think part of the problem in this fight was that our game plan consisted more of the standup game and maybe we should have surprised Fedor with more of an emphasis on the ground game.
PDG: So in your opinion did Brett win the first round?
Mike Reilly: I definitely believe that he won the first round because there was only two big punches landed and both of them came from Brett. He also controlled the action against the cage and even though Fedor’s Superman Punch got an ovation from the crowd it had no effect on Brett. We controlled the action standing; he got the escape on the ground and landed good punches on the ground. So yes, I believe he won the first round but you never know because lately you don’t know what the judges are watching. You could blindfold three chimps and the scoring would be more accurate. In between rounds I told Brett that he was doing a good job and that Fedor had to of realized he wasn't going to be able to do any damage on the ground. We were definitely very confident going into round two but obviously the fight did not end how we wanted it to.

I think the first round was close
but not Roger’s. He landed one punch that cut Fedor’s nose. Fedor cuts easily, so i didn’t see any threats aside from an early cut stoppage. Fedor rushed him twice and caught him with some good hits. He threw him and had submission attempts. All of that would go on the scorecard as attempted fight finishers. While rogers pressed him against the cage and battered his knees, which we know from Shogun and Machida that it doesn’t count for much. Then he got some G’n’P which earned him some points. But in total, i doubt the judges gave it to Roger’s. He obviously did good though.
The part about blindfolded chimps being better at scoring fights is, sadly, all too accurate.

He didn’t just cut him on the nose, he broke it. I do think Fedor stole the round with some of his strikes and his escape from the GnP that were mostly misses. I think some of the scoring would have to involve how many of those punches the judges could see landing? There are many times in a fight that I think someone is getting pounded and then watch the replay and only about 30% of the shots actually hit.
not broken

Who gives a fuck if he won the first round? He could have won it 10-6 and it wouldn’t change things one bit.

THERE IT IS

It would mean that Roger did better than he actually did, and that he would have a good chance to take the rematch. This wasn’t Lesnar-Mir I.
Even then it wouldn’t mean he’d have a good chance of winning the rematch. Do you think Dan Henderson has a good chance of winning a rematch with Anderson Silva?

but he didnt win the first round, so it dosnt even matter=P
Everyone has a game plan, untell they get hit.
Fedor actually dominated round 1. Other than the jab, some weak dirty boxing, and 3 clean shots when Fedor was on his back, Rogers didn’t do much else. Once the left hook landed, it was just a matter of time. Easily a 10-9 Fedor round 1. Mike Reilly needs YouTube.

No way Rogers won that first round. First of all, fedor never got his nose broken, although it was a nasty cut. Second, he hit Rogers with some big punches that clearly rocked rogers, and he got taken down twice, even though he got up pretty quick from the first one. Fedor also had two or three pretty descent submission attempts, a kimura, an armbar and a armtriangel.
The only reason Rogers managed to hold fedor against the cage, was because he repeatedly nailed his fat fingers into the fence, which is clearly illegal. Asside from the early jab, he did attempt some pretty good ground n pound, but fedor kept his cool, and instead countered with an armbar.
First round 10-9 Fedor Emelianenko. I rest my case.

LMFAO, what a clown. Who do you think would have been in better shape had it gone to the third? Rogers would have been sucking air and Fedor coulda done whatever he pleased.

I definitely believe that he won the first round because there was only two big punches landed and both of them came from Brett.
I wonder how he explains Brett getting rocked in the first round, if it wasn’t from Fedor? A second striker, behind the grassy knoll?

It was just a big ‘ol nasty, uncut thumbnail that got Fedor’s nose to bleed. It wasn’t broke.

still have a shrine to the ever increasing belly of fedor. can't wait till the five feet 11 inch russian

Team Bison: Overrated Camp
What do these guys know about MMA? Brett Rogers only claim to fame is calling out Kimbo, bum rushing an unmotivated Arlovski., and getting beat in Fedor’s first cage match. Other than that he’s only beaten cans who are dumb enough to trade and lack any technical standup skills. Mike Reilly is basically pulling a page out of the Florian playbook claiming they won a round. Too bad, they lost the match in a decisive fashion. In the end, nobody talks about how competitive a match is when the outcome is decided by KO/Sub. Don’t get me wrong, Brett Rogers has the size/tools to get the job done but he’ll never beat another top ten heavyweight unless he leaves Team Bison. Another Team Bison “standout” was Brock Larson who left Minnesota Martial Art’s Academy (Lesnar & Sherk’s team) and look what happened to him.
