Snapshot of the Day: Mariusz Pudzianowski Trains For His MMA Debut

"As of now Pudzianowski's sparring 3x5 no problem.Mariusz Pudzianowski vs. Marcin Najman is set for KSW 12 on Dec. 12th.
He’s preparing with Okinski MMA Team in Warsaw, Poland. Quite a big club, focused mainly on amateur MMA and on BJJ. Some good submission guys are there, but no big MMA names. However, some top international level freestyle wrestlers (superheavyweights) helped him also, and there have been some seminars like this one with Mario Sukata. He’s training there for 6 months I think, takes MMA and training in general very seriously.
In recent interview Okinski (current Pudzian's MMA coach) said that he is so strong that he manages to take down he's wrestling sparring partners with ease (including Dariusz "Ponti" Smagowski, one of top Polish 120kg wrestlers)."

WOW.
lol. He looks huge in the group photo. wth. I watched him do the world’s strongest man competition, and he was usually one of the smaller guys in stature… I never realized how big he really was.
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.
It will be very interesting to see how he progresses. I simply cannot see how someone as big as him can have the cardio for MMA, but I’d love to be proven wrong. Perhaps he will be so strong he can finish fights very quickly and cardio will not be an issue.
Strongman competitions require quite a bit of muscular endurance and cardivascular strength. I’m not saying he’s going to be a heavyweight Clay Guida or anything, but I’m pretty sure he’d last a lot longer than the current TUF heavyweights.
Jenny Craig members could last longer than some of those guys.

Take it from Mariusz Pudzianowski
On staying injury-free: "The reasons I’ve never injured myself are probably because my reps are smooth, not explosive, and because I work so hard on conditioning.
I do lots of swimming, three or four times a week, jump rope every day, and I run a lot, even while carrying heavy resistance: I grab a 200-pound bag of sand and run back and forth with It."
On his superior genetics: "My physique comes from family genetics. My father was a weightlifter who doubled his weight in the snatch and the clean and jerk, and my 21-year-old brother Christian, who weighs 200 pounds, already deadlifts 660."
On his diet: "My energy comes from my diet. Breakfast is 10 eggs and 2-3 pounds of bacon. Between meals, I eat lots of candy…I need it for energy. Lunch, at 1 or 2 p.m., is a double meal of a Polish pork chop, sauerkraut and potatoes.
An hour later, I work out, then take lots of supplements: magnesium, creatine, amino acids, all that stuff, and more chocolate.
Dinner is whatever meat I can get: steaks, pork chops, bacon, plus more sauerkraut and potatoes. [After I work out] I have a protein shake and more chocolate."

posting is being weird again. but i cannot believe that is his diet, and he looks like that. ridiculous genetics. but the whole running with a 200 lbs bag of sand, and swimming 4 times a week, i’d say hes conditioned well

The guy eats like one of those 1000lb people you see in A&E documentaries. He’s a bit more mobile though.

He is capable of making 265? or will he be more of a Japan freak show type fighter.
"Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass. I told him a year ago. I pulled it out of him and I beat him over the head with it." Brock Lesnar
He does look smaller than when he was in competition but Im wondering that as well
Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.
Even when he was a competitive strongman, he wasn't nearly as big as the other top guys.
Also unlike other strongmen, he’s not especially tall. However, he does carry about as much dense muscle as you can pack on his frame.
I doubt he can make 265, but he has a better shot at it than some of the giants found in strength athletics. Ted van der Parre, for example, won the 1992 World’s Strongest Man competition with a listed height and weight of 7’ and 353 lb.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
And I just looked it up.
His competition weight was only 313 lb, so he should be able to make 265 if he is willing to lose some muscle mass.

it seems every day we have someone wanting to join the ranks of mma fighter

yes i am obsessive, obnoxious, in your face and all about covering the spread. those are my good qualities.

This may be a stretch, but he’s so powerful and strong, does it even matter if his opponents “block” punches with their hands or arms? It seems like the sheer brute force of his punches would eventually drop his opponents.
His powerlifting weight was 315 if it’s the same guy I’m thinking of. If he can slim down to 285 then I think he could cut to 265 for fights.
As for his punching though, my guess is that’s gonna be his weakness, at least standing. Powerlifters have torque power, they usually don’t have much in the way of hand speed (or any sort of speed). His hands are pretty enormous, but if he can’t propel them fast enough, he won’t be getting many knockouts standing. You don’t see any top heavyweight boxers with physiques like that for a reason.
He said he plans to slim down and come in at 285. Anything more would probably inovlve weight cutting.

Keep in mind, the man has probably never cut weight, so even 10 lbs would be a hard pill to swallow. Cutting 20 lbs, even at his size, wouldn’t be as easy as some would think, simply because of his muscle density.
I am blinded by a sea of green.

Muscle density has nothing to do with cutting weight. Muscle is 60% water just like every other soft tissue in your body. A guy his size will ‘cut’ 10-15 pounds every time he goes to the gym just by sweating. Add in a little dietary discipline and electrolyte manipulation, and he could drop even more without much effort.

Hes kinda short at only 6’1 and doesn’t really have a background in anything other than being strong. Brock without the skills.
"Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass. I told him a year ago. I pulled it out of him and I beat him over the head with it." Brock Lesnar
Assuming Brock is a 5-time world's strongest man, sure.
Brock is certainly strong, but he’s not Mariusz Pudzianowski strong.

Pudz is obviously ridiculously strong, but strength gained through years of moving static objects is very different from the strength gained from years of moving resisting training partners. The Atlas stone does not fight back.
Does anyone remember Mark Robinson at UFC 30? While not as decorated as Pudzianowski ,Robinson was also an accomplished strongman and huge SOB. He might not have been as strong as Mariusz, but he was at least in the same zip code, but he couldn’t control Bobby Hoffman up against the cage and wound up getting KTFO.
Robinson was undoubtedly stronger than Hoffman, but when it came to the art of controlling position and manipulating a resisting opponent, Hoffman bested him.
Ha!
He says he eats 10 eggs for breakfast every day.

Is he roughly the size of a barge?

for any doubters, i have read through his powerlifting schedule before and his background in amateur boxing and karate has made him focus a lot on jumping rope i think a few times a week and doing other cardio exercises. He should have a huge advantage in power and one forgets that he was training to be that heavy, i think 315ish was his heaviest but hes been around the 295 lb mark before and that was because he probably ate like 10000 kcals/ day.
i see him having no problem making 265, and one has to remember that strongmen aren’t unknowledgable about their bodies and whatnot. If anything they have a high mental threshold for pain and are able to push their bodies, as well as possess immense flexibility that goes along with building your muscles properly. the only problem i see for him is his reach, so i think he should concentrate a lot on submission grappling, maybe even practice some sambo, but i’m personally very excited to see him debut. I’ve heard his training regiment is second to none and i think that will translate very well. The only knock against him is that hes used PEDs, but who hasnt in strongman, or most athelitics
Mariusz FTW!!
Past use of PEDs isn’t an issue. Obviously Brock did that as well.
As long as they can test positive when need be.
I dislike Matt Hughes. Shogun beat him like a dirty horse.
no

How is he going to pass a roids test?
But if you are stupid, you will be beaten with a stick - Proverbs 10:13
he evn acknowledges himself that he doesnt train to be explosive. how can this guy shoot or deliver ko power?

Yes I know
However, strength does help A LOT
If you have decent technique, strength can take you the rest of the way.
Trainers back in the UFC30 days were not nearly as good and knowledgable as they are these days. The sport has come a long way.
If you take the raw package that is Mariusz, you can take him quite a long way in a weak division like the heavyweight division. He is also training with the Polish wrestling team, as you read above.
Scary proposition.

MMA fighters in Poland like in England, Japan and others are not tested.
I know that in USA there are testing, but in all of states or ust where commisions are ? And what other countries testing by itself (in UK UFC test theirs fighters, not commision of any kind).
