Cain Velasquez v. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Moved To UFC 109

MMA Mania says that this heavyweight showdown has been moved to UFC 109:
Former UFC interim heavyweight champion and mixed martial arts legend, Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira, is expected take on undefeated rising star Cain Velasquez at UFC 109, which is slated for Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 6, 2010.
Nogueira and and Velasquez were supposed to hook 'em up in the UFC 108 main event on Jan. 2, 2010; however; "Big Nog" came down with a serious case of staph infection, which forced him to withdraw from the bout.
This pretty much eliminates any chance that Cain steps in to face Junior dos Santos in the wake of Gabriel Gonzaga's staph infection. However, this fight is so good on paper and so interesting that it would be selfish of me to complain about it happening rather than Cain/dos Santos.

The important thing to take from this announcement is..
I think they got positive news about Lesnar’s return. With Gabe going down, & Nog having staph. They would not have rescheduled this matchup unless they knew where they stood with Brock.
Carwin is not out of commission. He would of been ready to fight by this date. I think we’ll get an announcement that Lesnar vs. Carwin is back on in the near future and probably slated for early to mid summer..

Keith Jardine is now known as "The Dean of Antihistamine" because he is always sleeping early in fights..
The card is looking great.
UFC 109 Feb. 6

- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cain Velasquez
- Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman
- Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg
- Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller
- Rob Emerson vs. Phillipe Nover
- Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha Al Turk
- Melvin Guillard vs. Ronnys Torres
Unsure:
- Renzo Gracie vs. TBA

Although..
I have a feeling the Silva vs. Belfort fight might get pushed back a month to the March card with GSP vs. Hardy..
Recent news has stated Silva is not healing as fast as they would have liked and they may have to for-go 1 more minor surgery.. But that’s all speculation.. so who knows really..

I'll say it again
With Machida out til May and Brock out til sometime middle of 2010 there’s no way they are going to put 2 title fights on 1 card anytime soon.
Renzo's definitely not on this card
He’s said in multiple interviews that he’ll be completely focused on preparing Rolles for his debut.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him find his way onto the Newark card in March though, seeing as NYC is his home-base.

Good on paper is right
This may be one of the most exciting non-title fights for the UFC’s heavyweight division that I could imagine. If Nog and Brock win their upcoming fights… wow is all I have to say.
As Nick Thomas said above, the rest of the card is good too. Vegas will by jumping for sure.
Also Marquardt vs. Sonnen was moved to 109. So yeah, I’m guessing Belfort-Silva will be moved to a later date (110?) though it may not be ideal to have the fight in Australia due to possible tape delay issues.
Carwin has said numerous times he wouldn’t likely be ready for 109 because his wife is due to give birth right around the same date. He said he would be ready after that though maybe by March?
I have no idea what the UFC is doing with 108 now. They only have 3 fights on the main card as is and there really isn’t anyone healthy/available to fight Dos Santos. Anyone know what the status of Todd Duffee’s injury is?
They should do Carwin/Dos Santos. Carwin’s title shot was based on the lack of alternatives at the time; as it is, by the time April comes around there may be several guys vastly more qualified for the shot. Let Carwin prove he still deserves the shot.

I don’t think there will be any tape delay issues with the Australia card. It is on Sunday Feb 21st for us, i’m assuming at about lunch time which is when we get our live PPV’s. So if that’s the case it will be standard Saturday night viewing for the states.
Sorry, he Jason Bourned me.
will nog be healed and trained by then?!

He looked perfectly fine at 106 last weekend I don’t know why he wouldn’t be ready by then.

I'm sure it can
And like I said, he looked perfectly fine Saturday night. If he was still suffering so badly he wouldn’t have been walking around like nothing was wrong.
Sweet. Wanderlei, Cro-Cop & now Nogueira all on the same card.
