Happy Thanksgiving From BloodyElbow.com

633908455023181360-thanksgiving_medium

It's been a long November and if we take the long view, an action-packed year. Every major holiday is a pivot point to reflect on what has happened and in the world of BE I am always amazed at what we've become and where we are headed.

I would ask the readers to submit what they are thankful for (MMA-related only, please) in the comments section.

In addition, I would ask the staff to add to this post by identifying what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving as well.

As for me, I would say this:

I am thankful for the staff here at BloodyElbow.com. I am grateful for their first-rate analysis, passions, expertise and vigor. They have blossomed into the kind of staff every editor would like to work with or lead. I take my hat off to you all and congratulate you on a job well done.

Particularly, I am thankful for Nate, who in a time of personal crisis for me this past summer was not only able to give me helpful counsel, but turned into a BE work-aholic keeping the site moving at a pivotal moment in the sport. When others were unable to commit as needed, Nate accepted the enormous task of leading daily operations. I am very grateful for his hard work and leadership.

Don't drink and drive. Safe travels. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

CHRIS NELSON: There's a 33-pounder - a "Larry Bird," in the parlance - waiting for me out there, so I'll keep this short and sweet. This Thanksgiving, I'm most truly and sincerely thankful for my family (especially brother Mark, without whom I wouldn't have fighting in my life), my MMA e-familia (especially J.Breen and Mr. Loiseleur, with whom I communicate more than most of my relatives), and, of course, the entire BE staff, for making this place more than just another turkey farm. Thanks also to every fighter out there who trained hard throughout the year (and even as we speak) and put his/her neck on the line, making it possible for us to do what we do here and for everyone to enjoy the sport we love so much. I'm thankful for the promoters who churned out shows in record numbers this year (especially the ones who kept tight records) and all the fans who went out to watch and support (even the ones who booed once a fight hit the ground). Have a happy Thanksgiving, everybody, and please be safe.

MIKE FAGAN: I remember being ten years old and going around the table with my dad's side of the family, giving thanks for all the things we appreciated over the past year.  It got slightly less embarassing and slightly more meaningful every year.  And now that all my cousins and I are adults, my dad and aunt are at AARP status, and my grandparents made the typical move to Florida, I understand the lessons that they taught us.  I'm thankful for being back in Chicago, about to move in with my three best friends since grade school and a short drive from most of my family.  I'm thankful for Bloody Elbow, which has exploded in growth that I couldn't have imagined when Luke brought my cantankerous ass on board 18 months ago.  I'm thankful I write with a group of guys who share the same passion for MMA as I do.  I'm thankful for our readers, who appreciate the good and call out the bad.  And last but not least, I'm thankful fo all the fighters who give this site a reason to exist (that includes you, Shane Carwin).  Happy Holidays, y'all.  Go MEGATRON!

NICK THOMAS: I'm thankful for Strikeforce trying to book Fedor vs. Alistair Overeem (ranked 11th) in 2010, all the awesome FanPost's and FanShot's you guys have been submitting and the UFC continuing to push for regulation in Ontario Canada. =) Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

KID NATE: I'm just happy to be here enjoying another year of discovery and wonder. I'm thankful to be around at a time when a wonderful new sport is exploding into the mainstream -- more than fulfilling the wildest dreams I had for it when I first saw UFC III and became obsessed. I'm thankful to be part of the great team here at BloodyElbow and thankful for the amazing community that has grown up around us -- especially the critical thinkers who hold my feet to the fire when I screw up. I'm thankful for having had the opportunity to live in the D.C. area and get to watch fights with my main man Luke Thomas. I'm thankful for the great team at SB Nation who didn't just listen when I suggested they have an MMA blog but insisted that I run it. I'm most thankful of all for my family and friends -- especially my wife and son. Happy Thanksgiving!

BRENT BROOKHOUSE: My journey with SB Nation has been all over the place.  I started out reading and commenting over at South Side Sox back in the day, Scott Christ asked me to come on board and write about boxing at BadLeftHook when he first got it going, then I weaseled my way onto the BE staff back when it was just Luke and Nate, and now I'm MMA editor for SBNation.com in addition to the roles I fill here.  I'm sincerely thankful for every step of this journey and deeply thankful to Nate and Luke for taking a chance on me back when I was doing the boxing thing.  I'm thankful for a tremendous year of MMA action that gets overlooked due to our focus on whatever happens to be the news of the day.  Think about how many major events there were this year, the level of competition, and the size of the sport and really reflect on it sometime.  When you're not caught up in who has staph and who should be ranked where and if this promotion is better than that promotion it can really amaze you just where the sport is right now.  I'm thankful that I was able to see Fedor fight live in 2009.  Lastly, I'm thankful for my wonderful wife and my amazing family and friends.  Oh...and I am thankful for rum.

I’m thankful for people that don’t drink and drive today

I’m thankful for the volume. Between the huge number of major cards, the smaller cards that I’m getting more into, and people at BE, FL, and everywhere else lacing up old gems, I’ve watched multiple new fights every day for months and months.

And not to get too corny, but I’m thankful for the fighters that are training through the holidays – even for the ones whose only focus is money or their career advancement, they and their families are giving up a lot and we’re getting entertainment from it. Here’s hoping any kids who are missing Mom or Dad on Thanksgiving or Christmas get to watch them win belts and bonus checks.

Besides being thankful for you guys providing the best MMA coverage out there, i’m thankful for the continued mainstreaming of MMA and the propagation of more free MMA on TV.

Watching my first UFC event this year was also great. Keep it coming.

I’m thankful Fedor beat Brett Rogers. Would be a sin he had lost that bout.

I am most thankful for the BE Staff, especially Nate and Luke for deciding to bring me and Scott into the team. I don’t even live in the same country nor am I half as talented as those guys, but for them to get us aboard in a way is a gesture that I am truly truly thankful for.

I am also thankful for Zuffa and Strikeforce for producing the best MMA cards in North America. To think that a little more than year ago, it was elitexc who was “competing” against the UFC. Now were getting bigger and better quality cards all around, and as MMA fans that is something that we should all be thankful for.

I am also thankful that DREAM and Sengoku are working together for their next show. I hope that this is just the start of a very healthy relationship between them.

And lastly, I am very thankful for the BE community who constantly makes me believe that this is really the best place to discuss MMA.

I am thankful for Hendo’s right hand, bringing justice where justice is due.

I am thankful for MMA, a sport I got into in June and now consider one of my favorites, devoting large amounts of my time to follow.

I am thankful for BE, the best MMA news site I could have asked for. Constantly updating every single day, up to the minute news and rumors. Excellent analysis from the staff here. Since I was here from the beginning of my mma-fandom, I am not a “JUST BLEED!!!” fan and can appreciate the ground game and clinch game.

I am very thankful that I was given the opportunity to join the BE staff…it’s really a fantastic team, and we work on (in my not so humble opinion) the best MMA blog on the web. Likewise, I’m also thankful to our fantastic community members who make BE as great as it is.

I am also thankful that we’re able to get so much free MMA on tv these days, and that we have people fighting hard to get big MMA events in New York City and Boston, which are two cities close to my heart.

First and Foremost

I’d like to thank everybody here at bloodyelbow (Staff & Commenters). All of you make this a great site to visit & comment at. I’d also like to thank every fighter for sacrificing so much to not only make they’re lives better and make a living but for providing us with the greatest sport ever. I’d like to thank the ring girls for gettin me dirty looks from my wife everytime i ignore her and just stare at the t.v. without any idea of who’s around me. THANKS MMA!!!

I’d looked long and hard for a place with intelligent MMA fans, and I finally found it here at BE. Great community, great mods, great articles.

I am thankful for the WEC for giving us (those of us without Directv at least) free MMA with fighters who are among the best in the sport, but if they were in other orgs the fights would either come on at 4am EST or be stuck on the undercard.

I'm thankful

For the ever growing local MMA scene, for the fighters who are dedicated to the sport, and the fans for filling the seats and buying the PPV, and the other promotions that know they can’t be UFC, but still try and put on exciting fights and provide homes for more fighters.

He’s, how should I say it, not Carwin’s biggest fan. And every time he says something about it he gets a ton of shit for it.

by ufc4 on Nov 26, 2009 2:53 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

ohh okay..

I didn’t know that.. but yes, Carwin’s statements can be annoying at times. His “I’m a real fighter, this isn’t WWE, I will represent the sport better” sounds faker and more WWE-ish than what brock does..

1) MMA, my fav. sport.
2) All the great fighters out there(GSP, Fedor, Anderson, Nog and all the others of course)
3) Tom Petty and Eminem
4) Bloody Elbow is the best mma sight i have ever been on(not trying to sound like a kiss-ass)

I'm thankful for BROCK LESNAR!!!

Plus all the other fighters that work so hard to make MMA what it is.

Also this great community here at BE that truly is the best place to get your MMA fix. Whether you just want to keep up on the news or comment on the latest MMA happenings this is the place to be. Actually the BE comment section really is so much more than just comments. It’s more like conversation. Really intelligent conversation with views from all different angles. That really makes this place special.

Just BE.

totally unrelated, but this guy in Fagan’s judging post is starting to annoy me..

he won’t get the point im making, will assume that im saying something else, and will then say 10000 words of something unrelated to my points, to say “HAHA you’re incompetent! I train therefore you don’t mean squat”

I’m thankful:
- for Vancouver finally getting on board with and (hopefully) regulating MMA in 2010… at the very least, we’ll get a hell of a “test event” when the UFC comes to town.
- for BE’s staff, who constantly keep me informed and make me more knowledgeable about this great sport and for the commenters who remind me that I’m not the only one spending this much time thinking about MMA during work hours.
- for all the fighters, trainers, coaches, etc who make this sport what it is.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

I am thankful for the growth and evolution of MMA that I have been able to witness for 2 decades now. It wouldn’t be possible without websites like BE and great MMA fans willing to learn and appreciate a greater understanding and meaning of what the sport is all about. Thanks everyone!

I’m thankful for the athletes who do this for a living, risking their health for a few minutes of our entertainment.

I just finished cooking Thanksgiving dinner for my family (yeah, I cook), so I’ll run through this as quickly as I can..

I’m thankful for all of MMA and all of its many styles, fighters and promotions. I’m thankful for the increasing profitability of the fighters, the increasing rate of shows I have the privilege of viewing and the quality of cards we’re seeing modern day. Imagine where we’ll be in another year, or five, or ten?

Lastly, I’m thankful for the BE community, as someone who has long hated, and avoided, message boards/commenting on popular websites. And for that, I’m going to rec every post currently in this thread, even if mythbuster has commented. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, can you tell? Enjoy everyone.

Oh, and I am thankful for beer. I will continue to show my appreciation for beer until the day I die. Hopefully with a beer in my hand.

3) Dana for putting up great shows

4) Fedor who prevented the universe from collapsing by defeating Rogers
