Media Watch - MMA DownUnder

Just found this article on the local Sydney newspaper the Daily Telegraph.

Some interesting quotes from Dana White but it's mainly PR. Goes into the Boxing vs. MMA excitment/value for money story. How Dana swears and does fight bonuses - used the Pat Barry example - so the UFC aint all that bad, right? Also goes on the quote MMA as the fastest growing sport in North America, how the events always sell out...

It's just interesting that Paul Kent has taken a different point of view with this article from the eye gouging, biting and kicking-like-girls the Telegraph usually write about CFC (the local MMA promotion). Makes you wonder what happened. Did someone get flown over to the USA as part of junket, that the UFC paid for, to get the local media on side? Either way, good luck to Paul, I'm just jealous.

At last count the article had 122 comments. Some are in favour, some not.

There was some idiot waxing lyrical about how superior boxing is and the UFC makes up PPV numbers etc. etc.

Don’t know if it got through yet, as they hand pick which comments get posted.

From memory, Paul Kent does a lot of the Rugby League or I could be thinking of someone different.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I love how the comment section explodes into a juvenile boxing vs. UFC debate. I found this comment pretty funny

You guys talking about how MMA fighters would beat up a boxer, how about putting an SAS trooper against your MMA fighter? SAS trooper wins by multiple gun shot wounds. Stop comparing apples and oranges, it’s obvious who is better at which sport.

although i try to avoid reading the comments cause they just get me worked up and angry… no matter what anyone posts there will still be idiots posting uneducated opinions

I think this event is going to be the start of a much bigger and i hope easier to access MMA presences in AUS. heres hoping, now if my mate can just get us ring sides for free it would be perfect :)

i’m wondering about tickets as well. i can’t imagine the place well sell out (despite no international cricket on that weekend in sydney) and have been thinking of waiting for radio comps give aways, dana’s twiter account etc. but that last thing i want to do is be stuck in the second to last row (with a free ticket) because i was a tight arse.
