Excited to see Cung Le in action again, even if it is basically just a tune-up fight for him to win and keep himself unbeaten to help his movie career.

Really excited for this card. This will be huge for King Mo and Jacare if they wan win impressively here.

Strikeforce 12/19

This is a better card than WEC on paper. Well, except for the inclusion of Mike Whitehead.

It’s one of those times I’m almost accepting of being without Versus. Almost.

Still, WEC has Mizugaki v. Jorgensen and Benavidez v. Yahya, which is better than anything on this Strikeforce card, the possible exception being the main event.

=)

The King Mo vs Whitehead fight is a good step up in competition for Mo.

I give the nod to Strikeforce. It not only has the Melendez vs. Thompson fight, but we also have a probable #1 contenders match in Jacare vs Matt Lindland (and I know Matt got his ass KOed, but isn’t it strange to drop from 7 to off the list with one loss?), and two fighters really drawing curiosity in Cung Le and King Mo.
Either way I’m Tivo-ing one and watching the other live.

Not to mention that Vitor then KO’ed Rich Franklin in his next fight.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Nov 25, 2009 5:29 PM EST up reply actions

Matt didn’t really have the quality of wins recently to justify losing to an unranked guy and not drop off the list.

by ilostmydog on Nov 25, 2009 5:53 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, except for Joe Doerkson (who was like 30-5 at the time) none of the opponents he beat since 2004 were anything to write home about, but he was 10-2 in that span and his only losses where to Rampage by decision and Fedor by the Power Cosmic.

And sure Vitor was unranked but then you got to ask if Lindland was overrated how did Vitor rocket all the way into the top 10? And if Vitor is for real how is Lindland getting punished for losing to a top 5 MW, a top 5 LHW, and the #1?

by nottheface on Nov 25, 2009 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

Where are Franklin or Belfort ranked top 5?

Franklin was maybe the 8-10 area before losing to Vitor and Vitor is now maybe what 6-10 area in most rankings.

by bigdmmafan on Nov 25, 2009 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

Confused by you bringing up Franklin, but according to the current BE consensus rankings Vitor Belfort is the #5 MW, Quinton Jackson is the #4 LHW, and Fedor is the #1 HW.
And before fighting Franklin, Vitor was ranked #8 with his previous win being over Lindland. Before that he was unranked.

Now I see what you’re talking about. I was replying to ilostmydog and not MMASuPreMaCy. No wonder I was confused.
As for Rich he was ranked 8th as LHW in BE consensus ranking in August before fighting Vitor and is now ranked 11th.

Brett I agree with you on paper it looks better

But honestly when is the last time the WEC put out a card that people didnt like?

I honestly cant think of the last time I watched a WEC event and said that sucked or wasnt that good.

But for those of us lucky enough to have Showtime and Versus it should make for a terrific satrurday night of fights and thank god for the DVR.

iI’m gonna watch Strikeforce live and then WEC just so I can skip commercials.

I really wish this was Cung vs Diaz. Oh well, he’s made his choices I guess.

If people are trying to insinuate the WEC puts on a better event than the rumored card above you people might want to lay off the Christmas cheer.

by scrambledeggs on Nov 25, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions

Ill I said is the WEC never puts on a bad card

Yes the Strikeforce event is a great card and looks better than the WEC on paper but you never know how an event is gonna turn out until it happens.

If your into mma than its awesome because you get 2 events that night.
