LOVE THE PRILIMS!!!

I’m hoping spike continues the trend! And I’m really looking forward to the Condit/Dailey fight. Condit is a tough dude, but Dailey shouldn’t have much trouble against him for he is a BEAST!

by SHOGUNROBBERY on Nov 25, 2009 9:09 AM EST reply actions

If Condit isn’t an idiot, he’ll just take Semtex down; Daley isn’t much of a threat on the ground. Now, that being said, I love Semtex and my (proverbial) money is on him.

Ellenberger nearly cleaned out his clock. i have a feeling Daley will knock him out before he even attempts a takedown.

Being that Condit is training with Greg Jackson now, I believe he is going with a safe and solid gameplan. Meaning he is going for the takedown and going for the submissions.

If Condit was still training in Arizona I believe he would have tried to bang with Daley and would have gotten knocked out. With that said, glad he’s training with Greg Jackson.

The prelims are all pretty solid, but Evans and Silva isn’t a strong enough main event. Could use one or two more big fights

If I had to choose between depth but a weak main event, or a killer ME with a weak undercard, I’d take this more often than not.

agreed

Although I will watch this, the only fighter I really care for is JDS. Hopefully Suga will knock Thiago the fuck out, and Hopefully Joe Silva will add another strong name to the card.

While a little unimpressive on the top end, the card in its entirety is pretty damn packed. The Spike fights might be stronger than the PPV portion.

According to Lauzon’s twitter, his fight is officially the fight that got bumped from prelims so doubtful they add another.

Good card but missing a damn main event.

UFC 107 was never on the books and was set up specifically for Rampage vs Rashad. That card should have been turned into the “fight for the tropps” like it was originally planned and BJ vs Diego moved to 108.

I think maybe Couture could've been saved for this card

by Anthony Pace on Dec 7, 2009 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

I dont have a problem with a show doing 106 numbers as long as it has a real main event from a competitive/sport perspective (title fight, etc…) – because at least the prestige of the “UFC ppv” wont erode.

102, 103, 106, all lacked a “real” main event.

108, 109, 110 will lack real main events as well.

12 ppv’s… each one needs to have a title fight headlining it even though the title holder isnt a draw (you can engineer a draw for the card with a solid co-main event).

This needs to be done to maintain the prestige of UFC PPV’s. Dana thinks adding 3 cards together (since 2 were free) that makes up for a lackluster ppv because “you’re really paying 45 bucks for 3 shows” (in some sort of buy 1 you get 1 or 2 free thinking in his mind) and that’s just not the case .

PPV’s need to be clearly differentiated. 107 is a true ppv card.

by mmalogic on Dec 7, 2009 10:57 PM EST up reply actions

Im not pointing blame at anyone from the start because all these cards were planned to be Mega cards initially…. but when shit happens adjustments need to be made and they weren’t made correctly in this situation. And a price will be paid.

by mmalogic on Dec 7, 2009 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

Pretty much in agreeement here.

While I’m sure these cards will be in the black, the brand takes a bit of a hit. But I don’t think it’s anything a few mega cards next year can’t solve.

We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turning every good thing to rust.

by Anthony Pace on Dec 7, 2009 11:13 PM EST up reply actions

It’s just how soon the mega cards will start next year.

We return to title fights in March when GSP curb stomps Dan Hardy. I know that Machida/Shogun 2 is in May. What’s ahappening in April? They trying to get Rampage/Rashad then or is Penn going to defend again?

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

by Sam Cupitt on Dec 7, 2009 11:15 PM EST up reply actions

We’ll, assuming Penn wins on Saturday (I am), that should be a fair enough turnaround for him, and I think Rampage/Rashad was being talked about for Memorial Day. Then in late summer everyone is saying Brock returns, and TUF 11 should be wrapping up by then.

It’ll be a cold, cold winter though.

Well I’m Australian so I’m just happy to get a card here. Especially the fact I get to see Nog and Wandy in person has enough to keep me going. And hell I have to pay for all the American spike shows anyway, so this is nothing new for me.

I'd argue that 102 had a "real" main event.

Randy/Nog was solid matchmaking, and the win put Nog back into the title scene, so it was capitalizing on the hype of two legends, and impacted the divisional standings. The fact that it was an awesome fight to boot is lagniappe.

The gate was bad but that card did 435,000 buys with no title on the line and with Jardine vs Thiago Silva as the second fight. I think that’s pretty good numbers. Beat five other cards this year, and every card that beat it had a title on the line.

They should have cancelled 106 after Brock dropped out and rolled those fights into 108 and 109 or cancelled this one and merged it with 109. I know you hate to hear this but Strikeforce: Evolution is a much better card for its price.

Cantwell should be a lot better than he has shown. He’s got decent stand up and good ground but he just doesn’t seem to put it together well. I havent seen the third Stann fight, but after seeing what he did to him in the second fight, I was amazed that he lost that fight.

He’s got potential but I think the Janitor will be showing him the door.

This is one of those times where I want the people who get outraged about shoving a mic in front of fighters for an interview 30 seconds after they’re done to pipe up. I've met the guy a few times, had a few conversations.

So it does kinda matter what me and him think about each other. Steve is really nice and well spoken. He’s not the moron you think he is. There aren’t many guys who work harder than him day to day, and I like the kid. I obviously don’t know you, but I’m pretty sure you’d like the guy if you met him. He’s one of the more normal, accessible personalities of any fighter I know.

There’s a lot of guys you need to keep an open mind about. Some people are exactly like what they seem, but that one comment of Steve’s is totally out of character and was a reaction to winning his first UFC fight by stoppage two days after his 21st birthday.

by pdl on Dec 8, 2009 2:05 AM EST up reply actions

I didn’t say you shouldn’t care what you think about one another, I said neither of you should care what I think about him.

And maybe that’s true, but I’ll never find out. Maybe he’ll make it on air more often and not be a douche when he wins. Like I said, I’m not your everyday self-important MMA fan that thinks these fighters are obligated to appease me, but it’s not realistic that I’ll come around on him personally even if I respect his abiltiies as a fighter (which right now, I’m not blown away by). Sherk on the prelims. GOOD

He thinks he is a boxer now and it cost me a lot of money last time he fought.
This card is stacked though. If only it was Rashad vs Rampage. That would make this card the shit.

hopefully they show any combination of the following prelims:

two on spike, two or more in the PPV..

Cole Miller (15-4) VS. Dan Lauzon (12-2)
Mark Munoz (6-1) vs. Ryan Jensen (14-5)
Sean Sherk (33-4-1) vs. Rafaello Oliveira (9-2)
Vladimir Matyushenko (23-4-0) vs. Steve Cantwell (7-3-0)

I didn’t include the Kampmann fight in my top four cause I think it’s a mismatch anyway.. I’d rather see these 4 which are more competitive IMO.

But Kampmann is gonna go stand up with a dude he shouldnt while Markham is gonna do what he does best and knock out motherfuckers he shouldnt.
