IF Wanderlei can time Bisping ala Hendo this could be bad for Bisping….. I just think Wanderlei hits too hard, and we know that Wanderlei won’t pull a Kang…… I hope that Wanderlei destroys Bisping, but I really wanted to see Akiyama and Wanderlei fight a war

Silva is kind of predictable: Left hook, right hook, repeat. Also not sure if Wanderlei’s power will come down to 185, and Wanderlei will be cutting serious weight for the first time i his life.

Yeah he definitely wings his punches back and forth. I actually have Bisping taking this fight. Joe Silva knows what he’s doing…they want their British star back on track.

I think they’d rather promote up and coming stars rather than the final spasms of has-beens.

Although I dislike Bisping you gotta give the guy credit for not stepping down the competition. Hendo, Kang, Wanderlei. Those are though fights. Wand by (almost as brutal as hendo) KO!

The main thing that concerns me here is that Wanderlei seemed to gas in the third round against Franklin, which was only a cut to 195. I wonder if he will be able to hang with Bisping cardio-wise if the fight goes into deep waters. Seems a bit like the Amir Sadollah / Phil Baroni fight (though I know I will get a ton of shit for comparing Wanderlei/ Bisping to those two) If Wanderlei has a good chance of KOing Bisping early, but it will be Wanderlei’s first fight at 185, and I fear that when it stretches past the halfway point, Bisping will have the better cardio and be able to cruise to a decision victory.

by Wandy being another former Pride star, and Bisping having new tools in his shed.

If Wand touches his chin, he’s going down.. If not, then I agree..

Hard to bet on this fight though.. Even if Bisping has more tools, but I still think he will have a hard time stopping Wand, and i can’t say the same the other way around. I can see him winning a lopsided decision over Wand, but i can also see a replay of the Jardine fight.

by Anton Tabuena on Nov 24, 2009 3:56 PM EST up reply actions

OoOps, I forgot.

Bisping got knocked out once in his career, he now officially has a glass jaw.

Other than that, Wandy hasn’t been impressive at all lately. 1-3 in the UFC, and 2-5 since 2006 (wins over Jardine and Fujita). I’ll believe he’s the Wandy people remember when he shows it. Until then, I have to go with what I’ve seen lately.

Im not saying he has a glassjaw.. I'm saying Wand has power.

im just looking at the match up just like how i looked at the Hendo, and Kang match up.. He has more tools, but his opponent has more power than him which could end the fight instantly..

You gotta stop dry humping the records man. Randy Couture has a 17-10 record while Jason Reinhardt has a million and one record. Who gives a fuck?

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Recent records matter

Overall records, I agree, because things change over time.

But recent records do matter, along with who they fought. If someone is 0-3 against (so called) Elite fighters, and their only win is against a mid-tier guy, there’s a good chance that fighter shouldn’t be considered elite anymore. Or do you disagree?

Silva isn't good anymore

His only good fight has been Liddell, who is a fellow aging vet who likes to just stand around and throw hands. He beat Jardine with an old trick, and Keith should have seen it coming. Franklin beat him, and Rampage showed what really good boxing can do against a guy that just wings it.

Bisping is kind of a composit of Jackson and Franklin, in that he has Jackson’s boxing (but not power) and Franklin’s cardio (but not overall talent). Wandy has never had to cut weight like this, and Bisping has done it a lot now. He proved his bottom game is good against a jitsu black belt in Kang, and showed that he is starting to develop a takedown game. He’ll do what he did to Kang . . . good use his reach and legs to keep Wandy’s power away, and then start with takedowns like he did with Kang. Bisping showed he can do some ground n’ pound against a black belt and not get reckless.

Look, Wandy can knock him out but, that’s it. He’s a one dimensional fighter in a truly mixed martial arts world. All the stars of the early decade are finding that out . . . Liddell, Silva, and Ortiz. If Bisping brings his game, like he did against Kang, he should win and win easily. If he feels Silva’s power and freaks out like he did against Henderson and starts doing the wrong thing, he’ll loose.

I think is Bisping brings his game he should win and do so easily. Silva’s a dog and he’ll bring the fight out in Bisping, but if The Count can control the fight like he did against Kang he’ll win. Look for him to use his reach and kickboxing to keep Silva out of the pocket and use his takedowns (they’re not pretty but they don’t have to be if they get him down) to tire Silva out and beat him. Just like Kang.

by mason_beer on Nov 24, 2009 9:14 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Kang dident control posture and nor did he try thats why he got his face smashed into the mat. Bisping has skills but for a power puncher he does not have the power to keep him honest. The reason why Hendo kept coming forward is because he knew that Bisping could not hurt him. I believe if bisping is to win this fight it will be a leban style win as you said keep distance and try to pick at him for a decision

by Riley_96 on Nov 25, 2009 12:47 AM EST up reply actions

Listen I have to agree that Wand isn’t Wand anymore, but I still think it’s his fight to win. Bisping isn’t going to takedown and dominate Silva on the mat. That will not happen. Wand has always and still is too good to get pounded out or submitted by Bisping. Maybe Wanderlei’s cardio will be worse due to the weight cut, or maybe it’ll be better as a result of the surgery. Since coming back to the UFC he’s lost two close decisions to Franklin and Liddell, and while unanimous decision, they were damn close as fights, crushed Jardine, and got crushed by Rampage. Bisping’s going to have to outpoint a guy who’ll have no respect for his power. I expect Wand to catch him hard in the first round, and issue a steady beating in the second for a TKO. If Wanderlei can’t beat Bisping, I might agree that he’s done. But I think Bisping is tailor made for him.

His only good fight has been Liddell, who is a fellow aging vet who likes to just stand around and throw hands. He beat Jardine with an old trick, and Keith should have seen it coming. Franklin beat him, and Rampage showed what really good boxing can do against a guy that just wings it.

That’s one way of looking at it.

Another way of looking at it is that he basically stalemated two top 10 LHWs in Liddell & Franklin (both of those fights were extremely close), smashed a top 10 LHW in Jardine, and got smashed by a top 5 LHW in Rampage.

I think the rumors of Wand’s demise are greatly exaggerated. He has been thrown into the meat-grinder ever since joining the UFC and has only been blown out one time. The only difference I see between Pride Wand and UFC Wand (aside from the obvious physique differences) is that he no longer has the great recovery ability he used to possess. In his prime, you could knock him silly and he’d snap back into awareness almost immediately. These days, he doesn’t recover his bearings nearly as quickly.

Wand still has more than enough left in the tank to knock off fringe top 10 guys like Bisping.

..

As someone who will be attending this event live i have to say I’m very, very disappointed to hear about this. I really have no interest at all in watching Bisping fight and it kinda sucks that there haven’t been any injuries yet the card has gotten worse over the last week or so.

Oh well just happy we get a show here and i hope Wanderlei can put Bisping down hard…
