Naoyuki Kotani takes out Daisuke Nakamura with a rare submission via neck scissors at just 1:37 of their lightweight main event bout at last night's ZST 7th Anniversary show.

The only way this could cause someone to tap was if the guy:

A) Had the angle PERFECT so that it was shutting off blood
B) The guy getting sub’d has a neck made out of soft foam…
C) I just have no idea…

Head scissors shouldn’t be tapping out professional fighters, it’s just a pain move and it’s nothing near the pain of a joint lock, typically if someone is dumb enough to hold a head scissor lock then they usually just burn their own legs out doing it….

Dunno, surprised someone got sub’d with this, kinda funny.

It looks like Kotani is simultaneously wrenching his arm. Gryphon says it’s called “sentaku basami” (“clothespin”).

Even so, yeah, it’s funny someone actually got caught in this, and weird that it was Nakamura. But if it was gonna happen someplace, you know it would have to happen in ZST, where dudes regularly finish with crucifixes and neck cranks.

To me it’s looking like a neck crank, Nakamura’s head is at a really uncomfortable looking angle.

Here’s Shuichiro Katsumura’s brabo choke on So Tazawa from Shooto last night, too:

Now THAT is a bad ass d’arce, did he finish it from that position or did he end up rolling to the side or flat?

I’m told he actually finished from the topside like that. Good stuff.

In the photo

It looks like he has knee cap on neck action. That could surely cut off blood flow with the other leg wrapped around the head. Like a stronger version of an arm triangle.

did not mean arm triangle. rear naked… a neck only choke. The knee cap is doing the job of the shoulder in cutting off blood flow.

Yeah, if that’s it though it’s incredibly lucky that it’s positioned right, you can’t just press on the side of the neck to cut off blood flow or take out the nerve, it’s a little bit specific.
