UPDATE: SRC x DREAM NYE Event Now OFFICIAL!
From Tony Loiseleur:
Hey everybody, I’m back! (Well, sort of–at least as much as thesis writing will allow) For those who asked about NYE, here’s what I know:
Sengoku and Dynamite are indeed merging shows, and this is indeed related to Don Quijote secretly allying with FEG.
So the rumors are pretty much true. What I’m also hearing however is that DQ’s switching sponsorship has caused tensions in WVR/SRC staff.
Remember that rumors of copromotion between Sengoku and Dream aren’t new, and never happened til now since one side or other didn’t want it.
Thus, WVR is now under new management, internally. They are now seeking another financial backer for SRC to fill the place of DQ.WVR has already booked the Ryogoku Kokugikan for March, so we may see one more show. Future shows depend on finding a financial backer.
The gist of other rumors: Ishii might debut against someone else unless Yoshida Dojo is well-repped on Dynamite's lineup.
From Japanese Magazine:
K1 producer Sadaharu Tanikawa said "To cooperate a event including Yoshida vs Ishii, It’s hard to do together if we don’t get a response by the end of this week, because I have to make other matches."
From Nightmare Of Battle:
According to the article (which doesn’t say that this is 100% true but it’s from people involved) as SENGOKU didn’t get a TV deal (plus their bad attendance), things were getting tough, so Don Quijote’s Yasuda arranged some very secret meetings with FEG President Tanigawa to discuss a union angle which would excite MMA fans.
FEG were however originally not going to agree to this and just leave SENGOKU be until a possible death and then maybe try to sign Ishii.
However, talks came up that FEG’s sponsor, pachinko manufacturer FieLDS, will not renew their contract next year (I think the pachinko industry is doing really bad right now so FieLDS itself might be in a lot of trouble).
The article states that currently there is not just discussion about Don Quijote becoming a sponsor of FEG’s MMA branch, but buying it. The article also goes on about how things are currently difficult for K-1 as well.
FEG will NOW hold a press conference tomorrow, 11/25.
PRESS CONFERENCE UPDATE FROM NOB:
...
Tanigawa announced that they will hold the event together with SENGOKU on NYE.
Announcement of Ishii vs. Yoshida and DREAM vs. SENGOKU fights as well. The full card is currently being worked on.
Japan Martial Arts Federation president Fukuda has entered.
The World Victory Road general manager as well.
The DREAM army is entering the stage.
Kazushi Sakuraba, Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, Katsuyori Shibata, Hideo Tokoro, Hiroyuki Takaya, and Shinya Aoki from DREAM and Kazushisa Watanabe from K-1.
The SENGOKU army entering the stage.
Hidehiko Yoshida, Kazuo Misaki, Hiroshi Izumi, Sanae Kikuta, Akihiro Gono, Kazunori Yokota, Mizuto Hirota, Masanori Kanehara, Eiji Mitsuoka, and Yoshihiro "KISS" Nakao.
Both Watanabe and Tokoro said that they want to fight KID.
Sakuraba with a mask on: "Hi, I’m Hikari Shinji (a character from Evangelion). Please put me against KID who’s in the same weight class as me."
Nakao asks Tanigawa for Mirko. Gono hinted at Sakurai.
Hirota wants to fight Alvarez. "Don’t you want to see Alvarez get KO’d?"
Yoshida apologized to everyone who was preparing for the Ariake event and asked all fighters present to fight their hearts out on NYE.
Video message from Ishii: "Please be gentle on NYE, Yoshida."
Sasahara said that rules, the fights, the weight of the fights, etc. are currently being discussed. The only thing certain is that KID won’t fight Sakuraba.
WVR GM said that SENGOKU is planned continue from next year as well. Though I wouldn’t believe what most people say about this right now.

No dude
everyone thought he had Swine, but then as it turns out he really had Mono. Then, in a trip to Canada he collapsed and it actually was discovered that Supremacy had an intestinal infection.
He’s expected to return to writing long headlines sometime in March.

Sources close to FEG have informed MMA Recap that Tatsuya Kawajiri (25-5-2) will be taking on DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki (22-4) at Dynamite on New Years Eve.

FEG will hold a press conference tomorrow
Great post from bodychoke:
If DQ buys the MMA branch of FEG that could be a very good thing. The Japanese MMA scene needs unity and money right now, and DQ could provide both. From what people are saying, it seems like DQ are a pretty popular and respectable business, which might help cleaning up the yakuza taint.
DQ owns WVR.
DQ has a controlling stake in Pancrase.
DQ (presumably) buys DREAM.
DQ are involved in the Japan Martial Arts Federation.
In addition to DQ-controlled WVR and Pancrase, Shooto and ZST are also affiliated with the JMAF.That’s pretty big. DQ and the JMAF may have the potential of becoming the Japanese equivalents of Zuffa and the NSAC, in terms of unification, standardization and legitimization of the sport.
Thanks.
Another factor is also how former rivals Pancrase and Shooto are now collaborating (and with DQ controlling Pancrase, I wonder if DQ were pushing for it, further hinting at a long-term agenda), and according to 1½ year old news, ZST and DEEP are supposed to merge. As it’s been so long I doubt that will happen though, maybe I’ve even missed some official announcement that it won’t.
Either way, and even if DQ won’t buy the MMA branch from FEG, a sorely needed unity of the scene seems to be forming. Question is if it’s too late to make a significant impact.
by p. on Nov 25, 2009 5:19 AM EST up reply actions
So what does this mean for Strikforce if their is a major merger in the Japanese market? Will they now have the resources to keep all the top fighters and will be less likely to share them with another orginization? Or will they consolidate their shows and Strikeforce can pick up even more fighters now there are less spots on cards to fill? If Dream is purchased is the whole co-promotion thing thrown out the window? So many questions.
Plus when will see the fights announced?

Nothing has settled yet. We are going to be asking these questions for the next 6 months.

3rd Update From NOB:
FEG’s Tanigawa said that he himself proposed this union event. They started discussing since the end of October. He also said that he doesn’t know what will happen with the FieLDS sponsorship next year.
The WVR GM said that the current plan for the next SRC event is March. The fighters participating will be the fighters who have fought there until now.
Sasahara said that there will be 18-19 fights on NYE, and there will also be fights between DREAM fighters so it’s not only SENGOKU vs. DREAM on the MMA side. Kawajiri and KID couldn’t attend the press conference because they were out on other business.
About SENGOKU only fights (besides Ishii vs. Yoshida) the WVR GM said that it’s yet to be decided if there will be any.
Misaki’s participation is also yet to be decided. There will be a meeting about if his suspension will be lifted or not. Misaki himself said: "I want to obey the instruction of the SENGOKU side."
There will be foreign fighters competing as well, but the Japanese fighters will be the focus.
Tanigawa wants to match the champions with each other. The rules might depend on the fight.
About a future merger, Tanigawa said that Dynamite!! is mainly TBS’s event so there’s nothing like that.
The plan is for a double main event but Masato’s fight will probably be last since they’ll have a retirement ceremony after the fight. The event will start at 3 PM.
More rumors:
I got a rumor messaged to me about the future of SENGOKU. SENGOKU would go smaller scale for now if true, but it would excite more than anything else in JMMA right now.
…
A man would take over sengoku (not financially). This man knows A LOT about MMA, even about up and coming fighters outside of Japan.
Not sure who wrote that, but I’ve heard the same rumor and it doesn’t excite me nearly as much.
FYI, "this man" is someone who’d be known to real hardcore J-MMA heads, but not casual fans.
by Chris Nelson on Nov 25, 2009 3:56 PM EST up reply actions
Actually he might be known to some outside of Japan, but not on a large scale today. He has been around, especially the pancrase and pride days. But isn’t someone who normal MMA fans outside of Japan will know (only the really hardcore).

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2009/11/26/1174931/world-victory-road-sengoku-public
World Victory Road/Sengoku public relations director Takahiro Kokuho has been released by the company for unspecified reasons, Kamipro reports today.
…
This brings the WVR/Sengoku picture into focus a bit more: Kokuho manages a good chunk of Sengoku’s roster under his “J-Rock” banner, including those from Yoshida Dojo. With Kokuho ousted at WVR and none of his gym’s fighters on the “Dynamite!!” card, Hidehiko Yoshida’s non-committal comments at yesterday’s press conference are easier to make sense of.
