UFC 106 Preview: Tito Ortiz Talks Strategy
The Heavy.com crew caught up with Tito Ortiz who discussed his strategy heading into the fight with Forrest Griffin this Saturday. Here's the video of that interview:
Let’s see if Forrest can take the pounding. Let’s see if he can defend the shot when he kicks. Because every time he kicks he’s going to get taken down. A lot of fighters don’t take advantage of that. When they see Forrest kick they try to check all the kicks. To hell with that. I’m putting him on his back and it’s back to the old Tito Ortiz man. I might ground and pound. It’s lethal. The first round it will be lethal. If he survives, the second round will be the same thing. If he lasts through that, the third round will be the same thing. They’ll be carrying him out on a stretcher.

Is there a video of him that doesn’t end in him blowing his own horn? I mean, I know that this maybe beating a dead horse, but geeze, just one time, I’d like to hear about how he’s a legend from someone other than himself.
And the toque over the sunglasses? He looks like some kind of robot outfit in some future age where looking retarded was fashionable. I really hope he gets beat and I honestly can’t wait for it.
I think Tito is awesome for all the exact same reasons that you think he is stupid.

Some people feel the same way about Twilight. That doesn’t mean it’s not a piece of crap.

Anton lost, and I’m rubbing it in his face as much as I can without getting banned.

I sort of flip back and forth to be honest. This video tipped me over. I’m a legend. The only reason any of those other fighters are popular is me. I’m the longest holding LHW ever. It’s one thing if it’s other people saying it, but when it always comes from his mouth, it’s annoying. I don’t think he’s stupid though.
Quite the contrary
I think he’s extremely smart when it comes to selling himself, and that’s why he’s such a big draw. I’m he genuinely is a supremely cocky dude, but he really knows how to ham it up and get himself in the headlines, and you can hardly fault him for helping promote his way into an extremely successful and lucrative career.

You missed nothing
Just how Tito isn’t looking past Forrest but he’s got [list of names] as hopefuls, but he’s taking this one fight at a time. He repeated that a dozen times.
I think it is amusing how mad some get about people like Tito, A. Silva, or Brock when they talk to the press. I admit Tito is getting pretty repetitive but I think a lot has to do with everyone keeps asking the same questions. He is on a mission and focused and when people get like that they tend to be repetitive like that. Honestly I don’t think he can make his way back to the top of the heap in the LHW division. His striking isn’t good enough to setup his takedowns when he’s fighting against opponents that have good takedown defense. He dominated in an age where his challengers were pretty one dimensional when GnP was the dominant style of offense
No way. He jumps at every opportunity to blow his horn about how he’s a legend and how the UFC can’t live without him and how he’s a pioneer for all the other fighters and how he’s doing it for the fans and how he’s the best LHW ever etc etc. It’s unbelievable how one track he is. He keeps skipping back to the same tune over and over, it doesn’t matter what question you ask him.
