"The "UFC's Ultimate 100: Greatest Fights," a collection of the MMA promotion's 100 greatest fights as decided on by a fan vote, will soon be available on DVD.

And unlike the five-part Spike TV series, which showed just clips of the 100 contests, the new DVD collection will offer all 100 fights in their entirety.

Anchor Bay Entertainment, the current distributor of UFC DVD's, today announced that the eight-DVD set will be available on Nov. 10 for a suggested retail price of $99.97. "

If these were the actual 100 greatest fights in UFC history I might be willing to pay $100 for it.

99.97? DAMN thats a little tooooo much for old fights....

specially if you have spikeTV….i saw 90 % of those fights for free…..

Not a bad deal, but it’s a shame it’s not the 100 greatest fights, but rather a highly revised and Zuffa-approved history of the UFC as they’d like it to be.

Because Tito Ortiz certainly hasn't won one fight

while in UFC that would qualify, right? Not exactly Stalinesque revisionist history, but close to it.

If this list was compiled today instead of 6 months ago he’d probably be in it 5 times.

The winners get to write the history, that’s how the world works folks.

Except not the actual winners, mind you, but rather the owners.

Anchor Bay Entertainment: Werner Herzog's American Distributer.

Further proof they have good taste.

Why the Herzog hate?

Hate?

I own both Herzog box sets. Aguirre: The Wrath of God is an all-time favorite of mine. I only have positive feelings for the man.

Okay. There are a lot of people out there whom hate him now after “The Grizzly Man”.

by TheAlphaNerd on Nov 3, 2009 12:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Grizzly Man is hilarious

The narration is golden. If I recall, one of the choice lines goes something like “His love for the bear is matched only by his stupidity.”

We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turning every good thing to rust.

They put out a bunch of Dario Argento stuff too, and the Evil Dead movies.

The UFC set seems like a money grab though. Compilations are foolish, gimme full events.

by Chris Nelson on Nov 2, 2009 9:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Except that some of these fights were on UFNs and are not on regular DVD releases.

by Lynchman on Nov 2, 2009 11:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Some compilations can be cool, but this particular one does nothing for me.

I would love to see them start releasing career retrospectives for fighters. I would pay good money to get every Couture fight on one DVD set, along with commentary by the Natural. Ditto for a Hughes or Liddell retrospective. And that doesn’t even take into account some of the cool stuff they could do with Pride library. Who wouldn’t love to have a box set of every Wandy or Nog fight?

Any chance we can have it on like 4 bluray instead of 8 dvd ?

Just got my answer

Each set will be packaged in an individually numbered, limited-edition box set. A six-disc Blu-ray set will also be available for a suggested retail price $119.97 (you can pre-order UFC’s Ultimate 100 on Blu-Ray at Amazon.com for $73.49).

6 br :/. 73$ for 100 fights on blu-ray, sounds good.

When did they start shooting events in HD? I imagine a lot of these fights will just be SD material upscaled.

by omigawda on Nov 3, 2009 6:51 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah. I guess sometime between in 2008 :/. I just wish we could have more fights on less support so we don’t have to juggle between 8 discs, but whatever, 100 of the best UFC fights.

Ultimate Comebacks on Bluray had stuff from UFC 65, so they started at least as early as late 2006. The later footage looks better though.

55.99 on amazon for the regular DVD set. Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Surprised to see Don Frye there. Don’t the UFC hate him?

by Cunny on Nov 3, 2009 10:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Frye hates Zuffa.

I don’t think Zuffa has strong feeling one way or the other about Frye.
