Anderson Silva Not Recovering Well From Surgery
More bad news for UFC 109. The anticipated middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort seems to be receding off into the distance. Fighters Only translates from Portal das Lutas:
Anderson Silva says his recovery from elbow surgery has not gone as expected, and that there is still enough pain to stop him practicing simple jiu jitsu positions.
"I went to the doctor who takes care of me in Brazil on Monday. I had surgery in the United States but there is communication between the two medical teams. To sum it up, some movements aren't at the expected stage [of recovery]," he revealed to Portal das Lutas.
...
The news will not thrill UFC bosses, who are faced with a mounting injury list of high profile stars. Silva was wanted for a headlined fight with Vitor Belfort in February but unless he is back to full training by next month that will be unlikely.

So his elbow…which he himself said wasn’t hurt, which he then got surgery on, which was minor, but now seems to have a major surgery type of healing path…is not doing so well.

I should add
that Couture/Coleman loses some of its charm if it is a main event.

yep..
that would be a bummer..
but who knows maybe they’d put Liddell vs Kimbo as co headliner, and it would get the most buys in MMA history. haha. ;)

Maybe you should run the UFC
I know they claim to be above it at times but they have always been about the money.
There current headliners are Tito vs Forrest and Couture vs Coleman . . . before the rumor burst it was Huges vs Gracie too. Why not a Liddell vs Kimbo?
cause it's a business..
They’re in it to make money..

Just a joke due to all of the stress he’s currently under.

More of the same Anderson doing what he wants to
Something always comes up. And it usually is accompanied by some statements from Ed Soares such as "we don’t think (insert name here_____________) deserves a shot at the title or is ranked high enough etc, etc.. Its is going to continue until Anderson has a fight offered him that he thinks is a good challenge. I don’t think it will come at Middleweight. I Just don’t see anyone at middleweight that is going to help him heal his “elbow”.
Of course Silva is always slippery with matchmaking, but assuming this is true: Could you imagine if this injury never healed right, and Silva went out on this?
The whole internet would shut down from the arguements.

I am beginning to think someone at M-1 Global put a hex on the UFC. Either that or the MMA gods are displeased.

I bet he’s trying to piggyback on a bigger card so he can get more money with a cut of the PPV buys. I bet when GSP or Lesnars next fight (if he ever fights again) is finally confirmed Silva will mysteriously heal and be ready just in time to hop on one of those cards.
Smart.

I agree. He’s technically the most dominant fighter in the UFC right now, but for some reason that hasnt translated into mainstream fan support. Why should he headline a PPV card when he can co-headline with GSP or Lesnar and make more money? If anyone deserves more money its him.

I’m not claiming to be in the know as far as exact figures or anything. But what I do know is that Anderson has made significantly more than his publicly stated event salary for his last few fights. Not saying he’s making seven figures. But he’s making WAY closer to that than his listed fight night salary.
Doesn't suprise me!
A scared spider becomes an “injured spider” at first nothing was wrong then it was minor then comes a threat to his title. A very legitimate threat to the title and now no return in sight! I am a fan of Silva, but if he wants to pick and choose fights like Tito did when he was champ his fans and respect will leave at the same time!
Here is the solution Dana:
Sign Henderson,He will fight Vitor. He beat Vitor in Pride. That fight is a main event fight for a hard core fan. Henderson has the number one quality right now. He is healthy.

You’ll know they’ve hit rock bottom for main events when we see a Ken shamrock Dan Severn fight on a modern ufc ppv

Strip Anderson and fire his a**. He clearly does not want to fight. Let him go chase the big paydays in Strikeforce and Japan.
