Lyoto Machida vs. Shogun Rua will Rematch in May in Montreal
Yahoo's Dan Wetzel just Tweeted: Dana White just told me: Lyoto Machida will defend UFC light heavyweight belt against Shogun Rua May 1 in Montreal.
I'm sure Dana wishes it was next month the way that his fighters have been dropping like Forrest against the Spider. Too bad we'll have to wait for this one for so long, but the hype that the UFC is going to build for this rematch is going to be ridiculous you have to know.
Here's a link to his Twitter.

So then the question is will Shogun fight in January? Will they feed him a Matyushenko-type to keep him sharp?

I dont know why they would risk putting him up against anyone else at all.
Some fluke arm break like the Coleman match and the whole LHW title picture would be a complete mma-math mess. Fanboys arguing for years and years about legitimacy and coulda-woulda-shoulda.

Gonna price me a flight to Montreal
Never been to the city and would kill for the chance to shoot Shogun vs. Machida… just hope it doesn’t come hot on the heels of any UK / Euro UFC’s as my bank balance will feel quite the pinch :)

Machida needs to change
What’s so interesting about this rematch is that for the first time, its not Machida baffling opponents but rather what with Machida do different against Shogun, who showed how to win against Machida.
My thoughts? Machida needs to start evolving a ground game into his strategy, he is a black belt in jiu-jitsu and it might do him well to not just stand there getting leg kicked but try and use Shogun’s kicks against him by executing takedowns and working some submissions to keep Rua off-balance and make him think twice about just standing there leg kicking.
Rua is a monster on the ground. Why would Machida want to take it there?

It worked for him last time.

A "monster on the ground"?
not quite.
Machida would want to take it there because we might just find out he’s better there than Shogun, or at least equal.
shoguns ground game is sick, he flows from move to move and always has an answer for any reaction. hes stopped multiple people with subs and many more with gnp. machida is a good escape artist but hasnt shown anything besides a rnc in his earlier fights.
theyve both been tested and shogun is by far better on the ground. the only reason he isnt known as a bjj guy is the fact that he mauls people on the feet.

I think Rua would be well served
to work on bulking up, specifically his upper body- adding explosive power so to add to his punching power. Because to be honest, Shogun has never had very heavy hands, and if he polished his boxing and added some power, he very well could knock guys out cold standing. He landed some FLUSH counters on Machida, that if they had a little more power behind them would’ve planted Lyoto right on his ass.
Aside from that, he should work on sharpening his boxing & wrestling, because if he finished some of the takedown opportunities he had in the first match, he could do some damage from top with his GnP and submission game. Assuming that he isn’t any worse for the wear from the first fight, this time off might be an advantage for Rua in that he can work on things while Lyoto is sidelined from his hand injuries.

Maybe over the long haul he should work on his boxing, but that on-point Muay Thai is what worked against Machida. I think he should be adding wrinkles to his MT to keep it unpredictable and unstoppable.
I agree about the wrestling though. A couple takedowns in that first fight and Shogun would be champ right now.
