UFC 105 Live Results - 3pm E.T.
Bloody Elbow will be bringing live results of the UFC 105 event at 3:00pm Eastern. There will be a live blog up for the Spike TV broadcast at 8:00pm as well.
For those of you who can't wait the five hours for results, come on in and talk about the action as it actually happens.
This post DOES contain spoilers.
Ross Pearson defeats Aaron Riley by TKO (cut), Round 2 - The first round clearly belonged to Ross Pearson as he controlled the entire pace of the fight. Pearson used feints from outside and was able to unload on Riley with very tight boxing skills, knees from the Thai clinch, superman punches and kicks to the head, body and legs. In the second round Pearson was able to continue dominating the stand up before cutting Riley with a jumping knee that forced the doctor to stop the bout.
Matt Brown defeats James Wilks by TKO (punches), Round 3 - In the third round of a grueling fight Matt Brown was finally able to take mount and pound James Wilks until the referee was forced to stop the bout. Throughout the first round Wilks was pushing Brown against the fence trying to get the takedown and the physical grappling wore both men down.
In the second round Brown came close to finishing the fight after hurting Wilks with a flying knee. Wilks was able to survive and even end up in side control at one point in the round.
In the third WIlks went for a kimura and in the scramble Brown took mount and dropped heavy hands down on James' face. Wilks was forced to give up his back where he ate more punches until the ref jumped in.
Undercard Fight Shown: Andre Winner defeats Roli Delgado by KO (punch), round 1 - An undercard bout was shown with Andre Winner knocking Roli Delgado out cold with a huge overhand right. Brutal stuff as the ref was out of position and Delgado ate a few punches after being knocked out.
Michael Bisping defeats Denis Kang by TKO (strikes), round 2 - Denis Kang dropped Michael Bisping in the first round but the Brit was able to survive the round by using slick bottom hip escapes to remain out of any major trouble. Early in the second round Bisping took Kang down and unleashed relentless ground and pound leading to a ref stoppage. The second round was complete domination by Bisping who cut Kang up and forced him to wilt under an onslaught from the top.
Dan Hardy defeats Mike Swick by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)- Dan Hardy was able to hurt Mike Swick standing in every round of the fight. Swick had moments where he was able to catch Hardy in exchanges but never was able to hurt him and make him question throwing his hands. The odd moments were when Hardy would buckle Swick's legs he usually charged in to clinch rather than go for the finish.
Randy Couture defeats Brandon Vera by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) - In a fight that was mostly fought with Brandon Vera's back against the fence Randy Couture was able to pull off a narrow unanimous decision. In the moments where the fight was fought at a distance Vera was able to score with kicks. Vera's best moment came in the second round when he landed a kick to the body and a knee that forced Randy to turn his back and fall to the mat. He wasn't able to finish though and Couture controlled the majority of the final round to secure the judges scorecards.

Hockey and Curling > Baseball. To add more info about Canada, Toronto is it’s largest city and it’s also connected to Alaska from which you can see Russia from your households.

Ahh yes and we must not forget the great American/Canadian war of 1999.
So many life’s lost to protect the freedom that no American should ever have to deal with Canadian’s on their televisions.

Just hope my parlays for Siver Couture & Swick come in. I got one parlay for Siver, Etim, Swick, Bisping & Couture, one for Siver Couture and one for Siver, Swick & Couture. I hope to fucking god they come in.

He doesn’t have the skills to get to the top at 185 or 205 and is still mainly a product of hype for a UFC market share grab.

Or near the top, for that matter.
Would you pick him against Marquardt, Belfort, Hendo (he’ll be back eventually), Akiyama, or even Chael Sonnen?
I’d make him a favorite over Maia, only because of the total lack of standup on Demian’s part.

Agreed, he had the better highlights.
I enjoyed the main event. It’s not like they were just standing there doing nothing, Randy was trying for singles, doubles, trips, high crotch, all of it. Vera just kept defending very well. It’s one thing to just stand in position with double underhooks, that’s not what this was from either guy, they just stalemated each other.
by Michael Rome on Nov 14, 2009 6:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly. This isn’t a Tim Syliva leaning on Brandon Vera. Randy is always working, you constantly saw him changing up and everytime there was space landing an elbow or something like that.
He has been doing this his whole career. The referee seperating him tonight gave it the appearance he was doing nothing, while in the past John McCarthy would let it go as he knew what was up.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

awesome night of fights fucked up by a really long session of dry humping.
Pinning against the cage has become MMA’s version of boxings “holding”.
Randy could have done alot more dirty boxing in the beginning and Vera didnt do shit… like having a ferrari that’s driven by an old lady at 20mph.
Fighters need to start realizing that the close rounds almost always go to the fan favorite so stop complaining.

People should rewatch the third round. It’s really close. Randy landed far more strikes in the first 3 minutes and controlled positioning. Vera got a takedown and mount, but did nothing with it. I think the takedown being at the end is what has people remembering it more and scoring for Vera.
Either way, I thought the fight was a tossup, going on about a robbery is a bit much. Also, Vera was completely classless in defeat. Can you imagine Randy going “THANKS judges” if it had gone 29-28 Vera? Seriously childish.

Most of the time that takedown gets you the round. Add in Vera’s damage, and dominant positions at the end..
Will need to rewatch though.

most of the time the takedown will do it.
If this was generic fighter A vs Generic fighter B and if there was no fan favorite Generic B would have won (Vera).
The fan favorites win almost all the close rounds… the judges criteria change all the time to justify this. People make decisions based on emotions and then justify it with logic.
Unfortunately there’s so many ways to award a round to one fighter over the other.
This was a close fight and could have gone either way… I keep harping on it but fan favorites win close rounds. Adjust your expectations and your wagers accordingly.

How do you expect him to react? Rich Franklin was ten times worse

Agreed. Vera should just shut his mouth. I agree it was a tossup, but Vera’s wasted YEARS failing to live up to his potential, and was the same tentative, defensive fighter he’s always been.

Were we told who got the other prizes along with Etim?

I think its safe to say that Andre Winner got knockout.
And I’ll guess Wilks and Brown got Fight of the Night.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Let’s hope Tito wins so at least there’s a fight for Randy…
By the way. I predict just as bad of a fight between Forrest vs Tito. Ring rust is a bitch and also getting flatlined in your last fight doesnt help the other fighter engage either.

They could also do Randy/Chuck 4. There’s a lot of options with him at this point.

Randy vs… LITTLE Nogueira

I think it all depends how long Machida is out for. if it’s until summer I think Randy/Shogun makes sense. Shogun is more dangerous standing than Vera, but doesn’t have the same level of wrestling. Shogun probably wins but it’s a good fight and it would set either guy up big for a match with Machida.
Randy kinda took this fight on very short notice rebound from his last fight because UFC was desperate for a main event. Interesting to see if he does it again.

I think this is one of the fights Randy wanted as part of the agreement to come back

trilogies are enough a 4th is just too redundant.

Plus, this fight does not do much for Randy, considering where chuck is at

Vera really had a shitty gameplan though. Especially in the first round where he would just stand a metre away from Randy once they were broken just asking to be clinched again.

Exactly. A striker like Vera develops his wrestling and BJJ so that he can let his hands, knees and kicks go full bore, without having to worry about his ability to get up after a takedown. He still fights like he’s terrified of giving up position or getting taken down, and so he fights out of his weaknesses against guys he should absolutely destroy on the feet.

Vera
He’s just not going to be what we thought he would. He’s not.

Tonight I think history was made. I think more underdogs won when (considering the final lines at best fight odds) in this event than in any other event in recent UFC history up to UFC 72.
The underdogs with respect to the final odds were something like this (roughly averaged in my head from best fight odds):
Couture +120
Hardy +225
Bisping +105
Pearson +155
Oscipzak +250
Siver +290
Gustaffsson +115
7 underdogs won out of 11 fights. I think the next event closest to these kind of upsets was UFC 97 and UFC 98, although I could be wrong. Still, pretty interesting.

I had all those dogs on lock. Hardy was the only one that screwed me.

My thoughts on the other fights:
British Got Talent!
Bisping was impressive. He’ll never be a true top 3 mw or even 4 though. Kang is sokodjou lite…
Hardy has the potential to be one of the best however he’s nowhere near ready to even sniff GSP’s rectum. Koschek (if he wins) should be GSP’s next opponent. He’s the money fight and he’s the only true stylistic matchup that makes sense at this time.
Hardy’s got so much more potential… he needs to first find his home in the octogan. The GSP fight will be beneficial and a great learning experience but who’s gonna take that fight seriously.

If you think that Randy got rocked by a kick from Vera, imagine what Shogun is going to do to him.
Randy is built for the 5 rounds. His greatest strength is wearing you down.

Anyone else notice Kang’s invisible bicycle routine when he gasses? its plain as day, he did the exact same thing against Belcher, sort of jogging on the spot, becoming a bit of a trademark

Too bad
Vera killed my parlay (brown-hardy-vera) with the first round, seriously, he could have won that if he implemented the damn gameplan. On my hillbilly score cards vera wins, but whatever, I gave up on trying to score MMA anyway, I just nod at cecil and accept the result now.

![Michael Bisping trains with Rampage Jackson [at the 1:20 min mark]
"Rampage has just arrived in the county a couple days ago, so we're just starting to get down to all that now. He's showing me some good drills, some stuff I've been working on but you know slightly more specific stuff to do with it, that's already helping."
"I'm sure Rampage has a lot to offer, nobody knows Wanderlei like Rampage. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks and getting a few golden nuggets of information."
