Monson To Possibly Debut For Strikeforce at 205

Reliable sources have also mentioned to Fighters.com that Monson and Strikeforce are in talks and Monson could actually debut at 205 pounds in Strikeforce in 2010. Neither Monson nor Strikeforce could confirm, but Monson did confirm he continues talks with Strikeforce.

It would definitely make more sense than being a 5’9 240 lb HW.

He's a beefy dude

If he can do it, it’d do wonders for his career. He’d be a handful at 205.

I don't understand your response.

I didn’t mean "survive" as in winning fights, I meant physically surviving the weight cut itself.

I agreed with you. I said if he could do it, it makes total sense considering his height and size as a HW.

I responded saying as much

And it somehow got deleted. Didn’t even call you a jerk or anything!

I always like watching Monson.

I don’t see how Monson could be any good at 205 he’s too big and the weight cut would leave him looking like a mess. But if he can somehow do it and stay at the same level that he is fight at now, meet your new SF LHW champion.

Didn't he always say he's the one to beat Fedor?

So why would he fight at LHW when Fedor is right there at HW?

by Discman2 on Nov 12, 2009 2:27 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Well

He just lost to RIzzo. That’s not great as a HW considering that Yvel just bashed Rizzo. Monson has problems with big dudes that can jab and throw big right hands.

exactly. i’d think he’d stay at HW, simply based on the potential (more profitable) match-ups.

Monson will have to drop A LOT of his muscle mass to make 205.

Yea

But IF he can survive that cut and keep a good bit of his power, then SF’s LHW division is in a world of submission hurt. Monson vs. Filho, anyone? 247lb to 205lb though?

Will Filho bring his ghosts? Because that would be an unfair advantage.

Nah, it'll be fine

Filho’s Ghost can will have to deal with Monson’s Anarchist views.

doesnt forrest cut

from around 235? so if monson could actually cut 10lbs of actual bodyweight, i dont see why he couldnt dehydrate the way alot of the other 205lbers do. Mike Whitehead is actually 235lbs come fight time apparently

Dropping 5% of weight in a day is not hard. That would mean he would have to go from 245 to 216 lbs to be able to make the weigh in.. If he can handle it, he can try the extreme 10% cut, which means he would go from 247 to 227 lbs before cutting the last 10% before weighing in.

He might have a place at LHW.

by nottheface on Nov 12, 2009 2:03 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Exactly. Would be huge for his career and the SF LHW division.

Hasn’t Monson fought at 205 before? He fought Liddell at UFC 29.

Cuts get harder with age

Particularly when you add muscle mass and become a natural 240.

I realize that. I just think it’s worth pointing out that he’s been there before .
