Quote of the Day: Jerry Millen Talks Dana White, Fedor Emelianko

070320millen_medium

"If I get the opportunity just to punch Dana White in the face once in the cage, he could whip my ass. Pay me $50,000 that I give to charity, I'd still do it. Just one shot to punch him in the mouth."

...

"In the meeting, Dana says to Fedor 'oh, you're the best fighter in the world, we'd love to have you.' And Fedor says to him 'yeah, I hear and read on the internet what you have to say about me everyday.' And then Dana's like 'I'm just a promoter. I'm just trying to sell tickets. I just want to sell tickets.' And Fedor said 'that's what makes you and I different.' [Fedor] just wants respect and to be treated fairly."

Jerry Millen Millen told DC and The Sunshine Man on ESPNRadio1100. HT Steve Cofield

Haha, yeah, didn’t Fedor himself say more than once that he never personally met Dana White?

by mattman73 on Nov 10, 2009 9:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He was. Fedor and M-1 were in the US (travelled to the Affliction3, which got cancelled during the flight) and they talked with Dana and Lorenzo Fertitta, who happened to be in Europe at the exact same time.

by mikser on Nov 10, 2009 9:50 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Ah, I stand corrected. Millen’s story still strikes me as a little too perfect, though.

i think Fedor and his translator could have brought up corruption wait i mean respect but then dana counters with a “do you want to make some f**kin money or what”

LMAO!!!! Millen is ridiculous. This is why Fedor will be eating up another promotion searching for paychecks over seas and why the UFC will be successsful in bringing MMA mainstream

I believe ha said this:
If I get the opportunity just to punch Dana White in the face once in the cage, he could whip my ass.

I`m from Sweden, so I could be wrong here… But I believe the technical term would be “whoop my ass”? No? I am slightly worried by the sexual overtones in his statement.

Ass whipping, whooping, and kicking all mean to beat up. Ass pounding is the sexual one.

I think it was Michael David Smith, from Fanhouse, who asked Fedor during the aftermath of the failed negotiations whether or not he had spoken directly with Dana and Fedor said that he had spoken with Dana.

I’d say it’s safe to assume that happened at least once or twice.

But it’s not terribly hard to envision Dana telling Fedor that he’s the best fighter in the world, ’I’m just a promoter’, I love you Fedor, etc, during those negotiations.

Still, I’m loath to respect anything Millen has to say, well, about anything. He took the Quadros/Bas super happy awesome announcing duo away from us. Unforgivable.

http://mmajunkie.com/news/15688/manager-fedor-emelianenko-ufc-still-negotiating-but-no-truth-to-rumors-of-30-million-deal.mma

“Even though (UFC CEO) Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White did not meet with Fedor in person on Tuesday, they were represented over the phone,” Finkelchtein stated.

Saying they were represented on the phone call doesn’t sound like they were on the phone personally and talked to each other.

Just BE.

by mattman73 on Nov 10, 2009 10:05 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

yeah that doesn’t necessarily mean Fedor spoke with Dana.

by fozo on Nov 10, 2009 10:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I am very sure (as sure as one can be, without being there myself) that Fedor was presented when the conversation took place.

by mikser on Nov 10, 2009 10:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Update 5: MDS of MMA Fanhouse asks Fedor if he plans to meet Dana White. Answer is unintelligible. Sounds like Dana did talk to Fedor, but I’m not sure. UFC made a “good offer” to Fedor and M-1 made a counter-offer involving co-promotion. Says Fedor has many good offers he can take.

Instead lets do this. Split proceeds of an event titled UFC vs M1. 6 Fights. Each Weight Class I super show attraction. UFC sends Brock, Lyoto, Anderson, GSP and BJ. We could also have a special grappling exhibition match between Fedor and Joe Stevenson.

That should show who is dominant…Millen or Dana.

If you want to get into a debate off-line about what a nice guy Stalin was, we can do that. But I’m not about to do that here. So let’s try this one: just because Hunter Thompson hated Nixon doesn’t make him a nice guy (and I do love Hunter Thompson).

I… now officially have no idea what you’re talking about. My whole point originally was just that Millen pissing off Dana, no matter how anyone feels about Dana, is hardly a reason enough to like him or think he’s a good person. There’s a mountain of evidence to suggest he’s a liar, a hypocrite, and that he’s self-serving. He could spend his time giving my worst enemy a headache and I’d still detest Millen.

"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."

by AJB on Nov 11, 2009 9:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ok, now I finally understand your point. :)

My point had to do with “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” approach. And even though Dana and Millen are not my enemies nor friends, the approach still applies for the most part. I would paraphrase it into: “If one douche gets a taste of his own medicine given by another douche, I respect that another douche for stepping up, for doing things which God knows how many have been dreaming about and for delivering a lot of lulz for all of us”. :)

by VegasBatman on Nov 11, 2009 12:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I hate him as much as anyone here

But he makes a perfect point. Unless we expect his orthodoxy is some sort of mob marketing maneuver, we have to realize that Dana White’s behavior and two-faced promoter shtick has completely ruined any chance of Fedor showing up in the UFC. I bet even a Fertita jaunt couldn’t save this.

Fedor has enough money that given his modest fighter lifestyle he doesn’t need the UFC and his principles wouldn’t let him work there if he did. He’d live in a box in his churches basement first.

I like Dana but fuck, man – You have to understand the person your dealing with. Those “Crazy Christians” should not be so fundamentally disrespected. This is why people don’t want him as the face of MMA. I know he appeals to the fratboy who doesn’t wanna give in to the “system” (human beings) and be all “fake”(considerate) but as a fan of the sport he’s outlived his purpose. We have to be open to all people to get the best Martial Artists.

Arrgh. Sorry for the rant.

PS – Millen sucks.

His point is invalid when they keep saying that they will do the fight if Zuffa gives them half the revenue from the card.

by Phildo on Nov 11, 2009 8:33 AM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Good point man

The M1 shit is absurd, but I think it fits in line with their perception of Dana and the “personality” of the Zuffa machine. They want control of how their place in the sport evolves – which for a UFC nuthugger like myself is understandable- but Dana won’t give it up, right? I think it was a chance for Dana to show humility and he understandably balked at it.

Its like when you have a fight with someone and expect them to go the extra mile to prove their sorry. Unfortunately, I don’t predict an awkward chance encounter at the supermarket where they both go for the last six-pack of Mickeys and have to chuckle at all the good times they remember over cold ones.

I think Dana/Zuffa’s personality, protection, and stance in the sport are going to be in direct opposition to M1’s. Its a tough relationship to see a silver lining on.

Again, don’t take a thing that leaves Millen’s mouth for anything than the manipulative lie it is.

Undoubtedly. Millen is a worhthless lying sack of etc.

But I’m also taking what Fedor has said in other interviews in regards to what Dana says to the media. Those things are relevant to Fedor’s market value and the lack of respect they show is not dissolved by the “That’s Business in Amurrica” philosophies that seem to be prevalent around Dana.

I don’t think he would be partnered with people he would like to have called “Crazy Russians.” That line has little to do with business and everything to do with treating Fedor like a child and expecting him to turn against his parents, so to speak. Its pimp-talk and its disrespectful to a complete heathen like me – so I can’t even imagine how repugnant it looks to Fedor’s orthodox sensibilities. Not to mention its trying to shake the composure of Fedor Emelia-Fucking-nenko. If a Randleplex didn’t do it, something that low-brow must be insulting at a base level.

That said, I would still love to watch Dana smash Millen :) Elbows on the ground baby!

Another Rant, -sorry – but I really wanted Fedor in the UFC. Dana took a poor approach to peel him from his management team. Now I think he’s even hurt our chances if/when there is a split.

And Gary Millen contributes directly to…douchebaggery and unintentional comedy?

Gary makes you feel better about yourself because you are not him.

this is completely off topic, but in that photo Millen looks eerily like this pastor that gave a prayer for the fighters at a show a buddy of mine fought at in Greensboro. he was talking something about the “warrior spirit” of Jesus. I think he was wearing eyeliner and had his fingernails painted.

i think if they want to have negotions with fedor's handler's the fertitta's should do all the talking

dana white has a big mouth and he turns people off with his antics. the fertitta’s are pure businessmen. they built station casino’s from scratch and the ufc. they should be the one’s discussing on how we can see brock lesnar and fedor e. fight. fedor’s mangement team just might listen to them. dana white is obviously pure venom to them. let the fertitta’s handle the buziness side of things for just this one event. peace.

First, Dana behind closed doors and Dana talking to cameras and microphones are two different people. Second, it wouldn’t matter at this point if the Fertittas conducted the negotiations because A) Fedor has made it clear that his objection to the public persona of Dana carries over to be a rejection of the UFC generally and B) M-1’s demands for things like co-promotion will never, ever be accepted by the Fertittas precisely because they are good business men.

i agree with what you said except how do you know dana is different behind closed doors?

he probably is even worse when the camera’s are off. dana white as i said before is mma’s don king. peace

Dana stole hundreds of million of dollars from fighters?

by Riney on Nov 11, 2009 5:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

who said anything about stealing. dana white and the ufc are short changing their fighters

that is why they are having problems with dan henderson and even randy couture in the past . dana does have a boxing background. as for the fights some fighters will fight anybody and some fighters want to handpick who they fight. all you have to do is watch the tuf 10 show and they did it last week. when they brought roy nelson into the room he said he would fight anybody except i did not here marcus jones name. same thing happens with the ppv events. don’t give me this joe silva specifically matches up fighter’s as he sees fit. anderson silva said he would never fight machida. there are too many to list because fighter’s from the same camp want to fight fighter’s from another camp but i want to see the best fights the ufc can bring to ppv . i don’t give a rats azz what anderson silva wants. i want to see the best fights. peace.

So Dana

and the UFCs fighters are not the highest earning fighters in MMA today? You are mad at Dana and Joe because Anderson doesnt want to fight Machida? I am really confused now.

by Riney on Nov 11, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

who said anything about being angry i just said i don't care what anderson silva wants.

you seem confused to me. don king stole hundreds of millions of dollars. if he did that he would be in prison. he just out hustled stupid boxers like mike tyson. i feel no empathy towards mike tyson if he signed a contract that he could not uinderstand. that is the difference between boxers and mma fighters. most boxers are dumb as zhit and have no other options in life. most mma fighter’s had other backgrounds and many have college educations. if i was dan henderson i would leave the ufc if i did not get paid enough. i could go on and on but you would still be dazed and confused. peace.

Did you reply to the wrong post?

You continue to rant on and on and on answering none of the questions. You need to slow down and read your comment. Now slow down and read my comment that was in reply to yours. Now try and answer what I asked.

You said you were mad at Dana and Joe because Spider wouldn’t fight Machida. I asked how was that Dana fault? I also asked you about the UFC fighters being the highest paid MMA fighters, you ignore this as well. Maybe you are dazed and confused. Or maybe you aren’t, I am betting it is the latter.

show me where i used the word "mad" your blind, dazed and confused
