You will see Shields back on CBS
There has been some out cry that the Shields Mayhem fight was boring last Saturday, Now that is a subjective matter I personally was entertained by it. I had it as my Fight of the Night not Fedor Rogers it was really just a forgone conclusion of who would win that one. The fight went the distance a full 25 minutes to a decision. This isn't because Shields cant sub guys his last 5 fights not including the one with Mayhem 4 ended with a Submission and one even via TKO. The Way the fight went down is completely on Millers shoulders due to his poor takedown defense and his inability to make it into a brawl. If he had been able to stop the take downs and make this a striking contest he would of most likely won.
Strikeforce will put him back on CBS for 2 reasons. Shields is one of the few top 10 fighters they have that isn't in there heavy weight division. With news that Fedor will be out up to 4-6 months due to injuries Strikeforce has lost one of there possible top draws. Now Shields cant pull a whole show by himself, he has just barley more personality then Bobby Lashley. He is though one of there few active Champions and title fights sell better then non title fights unless its a big match up. If he is paired up with one of there other guaranteed draws in Gina Carano they could pull some decent numbers,
This would also force CBS and Strikeforce, who I'm sure had some input into how the marketing was done to change up how the built the fight. For Saturdays show it was all FEDOR FEDOR FEDOR or FEDOR ROGERS , my family who had scene commercials and watched it with me were amazed that there were more fights, they aren't the biggest MMA fans though either. Now I hate comparing Strikeforce to UFC since its just not a fair comparison. They are no where near the same level of exposure and recognition . You don't hear people calling MMA Strikeforce do you? Where they can learn from UFC though is that it has the best hype machine across the board from MMA to Pro Wrestling. They don't just try to sell a show on 1 guy or 1 fight now it does help to have that 1 guy and 1 fight . In the adds they also say "and" as a example Rothwell Cain . UFC promotes the card now not the entire card but they do promote more then just 1 fight. This is something CBS and Strikeforce will have to correct.
If Strikeforce were able to pair Shields up with either Mousasi and have them both defend there titles on the same show hopefully they could pull better then Elite XC's second show as a bare minimum. It wouldn't pull Kimbo numbers but it should get them to there next show.
I like Kimbo and all he seems very likeable and down to earth on TUF . What does it say for your sport though when he is your most watched fighter and not Fedor, Brock, GSP, BJ, the Spider?

The hater consensus was that Shields was a boring fighter and had erased the popularity he had earned over a 10-year career as one of the world’s top non-UFC welterweights (and newly minted middleweight).
But CBS Primetime exec Kelly Kahl on Sunday said that’s just not the case.
“I don’t know who those people are,” he said. "Look, he’s the champion and he did what it took to win a championship belt. I’m not going to fault him for that.
“Was it as exciting as some matches? Probably not, but the guy did what he had to do to win the bout.”
Kahl said there were “a lot of moving parts” to Strikeforce’s next show on CBS, but was pleased overall with the way the first effort turned out.

Amazing that a CBS executive doesn’t admit that people didn’t like something about his product.

what? I think you're missing the point..
there are reasons you put up quotes, and pretending like you just put it for no apparent reason is just lame.
if i used the “shut the fuck up subo gif” after a subo comment, how would it look like if i say, “hey i didn’t make that, so not my opinion.. i just posted what they said.. LOL at accusing me for telling you to shut up”? would you believe me?
PS. I really wasn’t really insulting supremacy.. that was just an example to stress a point, which you obviously didn’t get.. (like my dude where’s my car joke)

Don’t you think “shut the fuck up subo” is a little different than posting a quote that is directly related to the story at hand?
One only serves as an expression of opinion, the other actually serves to inform. Someone who posts something that serves to inform can plausibly deny that they personally endorse it.

even if the person has a reputation for having very strong biases towards one company?
and that example was just an exaggeration so that people would get what i meant.
If mmalogic posts a quote from zuffa, would you think that “oh, he doesn’t endorse that statement”?
he CAN deny it…technically. but it’s kinda obvious don’t you think?

Exactly
If it is relevant to the matter, I post it.

but only when it’s not good news.

what do you mean, it has to be some sort of coincidence.

I think that Strikeforce could headline a card with Shields-Shamrock. That said, it’s far easier to market Saturday Night Fights as “Fedor Fights” than attempting to establish brand awareness for Strikeforce…at least in the short term. The next CBS card will be headlined by Fedor, and cards with different stars will be on Showtime.

I think that Strikeforce could headline a card with Shields-Shamrock.
Only if they want to lose their deal with CBS.
1. The half-hour ratings breakdowns show that people changed the channel during the Shields-Mayhem fight.
2. Shields was also part of the main card for the disastrous ‘EliteXC: Unfinished Business’ card on CBS.
3. Shamrock is a huge draw at the gate, but is poison in terms of ratings. Take a look at Showtime MMA’s lowest rated major shows and you will find that Shamrock dominates the list and has never cracked 400K viewers.

As an MMA fan and someone who trains in Muay Thai, I can honestly say that the Sheilds/Miller fight didn’t really how me what great grappling is. All I saw (maybe untrained eye) was Shields gaining position but can’t advance and throwing baby taps. Granted he couldnt submit Miller, he should at least work to advance position. All I saw was a sub par version of Clay Guida. At least Guida would trade blows…. I definitely wouldnt tune in to watch a fight if Shields is headlining…. Strikeforce should be embarassed to have him as champion…

Maybe I'm a bit of a purist, but...
I honestly think the fight wasn’t that bad. The only knock against Shields is that he couldn’t get the finish. He absolutely dominated Mayhem (less the RNC) on the ground and transitioned at will. Every MMA fan knows that Shields’ stand up is terrible, so standing up and trading punches isn’t even an option.

Shields is not a headliner for CBS but he isn't a black hole
No one criticized Matt Hughes when the UFC had to lean on him for PPVs during their time of adolescent growth. He’s not going to deliver great ratings but he’ll put on a solid performance and represent the product well.

You don't need casual to order a ppv
for it to be successful. You ABSOLUTELY need casuals to watch for a primetime network show to be successful. Big difference.
