UFC 108: Nogueira vs. Velasquez was officially announced by the UFC today, while a co-headlining bout featuring Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva was also confirmed.
Dana White also explained that the bout would determine the number one contender for the heavyweight title, with the winner getting a shot at the winner of Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin when it happens:
"Nogueira showed in the (Randy) Couture fight that he still has plenty left to offer at the top level of the game, and Velasquez was devastating in his win over Ben Rothwell, so with both guys in top form, we're definitely going to see a No. 1 contender emerge from this fight to take on the winner of the Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin title fight."

Something tells me this isn’t quite what they were hoping for with their New Year’s show.

The event is two months away, but yes.
It’s just an announcement. I’m sure the ’shop quality will go up in time for actual posters and outdoor ads.

Yeah it sucks. They all suck anyway. Except for the Rampage Jardine and GSP vs Penn 2 posters.

I firmly believe Rashad is one of the more overrated LHWs in the UFC and this is coming from someone who does alot of training at Jackson’s. Think of Rashads last few opponents for a second. With the exception of Machida anyways. Chuck… Forrest and supposed to be Rampage. Guess what happened prior tp each of these fights. jardine fought em. Jardine is basically the company man and UFC gatekeeper and not to mention Greg Jackson’s exclusive sparring partner for Evans. So Jardine fights Forrest, feels out his game, power etc. Does the same for chuck. Reels in potential blue prints. Greg Jackson isnt a genius, he is a great coach but his startegies have been known to be questioned (i.e. Jardine vs Thiago Silva, KenFlo vs BJ, Evans vs Machida). So Rashad battles Chuck. Loses the first round and catches Chucks chin nicely for a KO, he loses two rounds to Forrest and once again catches a very sloppy Forrest in the guard-up-down positioning, then fights Machida and is completely and utterly dominated.
Jardine fights Rampage to set up Evans vs Rampage now that Evans sparring partner fought him. So that falls through. Jardine last was brutally knocked out by T. Silva and oh my what a surprise Evans is slated to fight Thiago. Night Night Evans

How does KenFlo vs BJ equate into this? To my knowledge, Florian was not cornered or trained by Jackson during or before Florian’s fight with BJ. I’m not going to go into theories here about Jardine being set up just for Evans to eventually fight Jardine’s opponents, but Evans will have to lose more in order for me to believe that he is overrated.
As far as Jackson and his strategies go, no one is perfect and I have yet to see some fighters under him like Villasenor and sometimes Donald Cerrone to actually utilize a strategy. For all the faulty strategies, there are star examples like Joe Stevenson who is looking better than ever now that he is training under Greg Jackson.

I agree, my friend. Nice to see someone else that discourages from hugging onto Evan’s sack. Silva will KO this fool! War SILVA!!!

Never noticed that Jardine fought Rashad’s opponents right before him. That is very odd

For someone who trains at Jackson’s so much, I can’t believe your analysis is so laden with errors.
Jardine fought Forrest at UFC 66. Rashad fought Forrest at UFC 92. In no way was that some elaborate gameplan to help Rashad out. Forrest was the champ, and fought Rashad 2 years after he fought Jardine.
Rashad fought Chuck a year after Jardine fought him. Both were supposed to be sacrificial lambs to Chuck, and Chuck’s gameplan was never hard to figure out. Rashad did exactly what he wanted to.
BTW, Jackson never gameplanned Florian vs. Penn, and Jardine fought Silva as he always fights.
With Rashad and Jardine both top UFC 205 fighters, there’s going to be a bunch of crossover as to who each guy fights. It’s a numbers game, not a conspiracy.

So what if Nog goes on to beat Cain and lesnar/Carwin? Fedor already beat Nog 3 times. I wonder how in the world Dana will spin that!
