I thought the same thing. Its been said he understands quite a bit of english, he just doesn’t speak it.

I'm a huge fan BUT
The whole Russian orthodox thing is starting to piss me off , I mean what the fuck , he said it once already can’t he devote it to ALL your fans the second time ? Does he think all his fans are Russia orthodox or what?

He gets to choose who his “community” is.

He always thanks all his fans (like he did at least in his official interview; I didn’t pay attention for this particular interview) and additionally says a few things about Russia and Russian fans. Orthodox is one of the main religions in Russia, has been for centuries, so he is referring to it. No need to be pissed off. Think of it as a Fedor’s variation of “God Bless America” rant, which makes no sense, but is still repeated over and over again. :)

I’m not saying he shouldn’t thank his community …the logical order is team/family then community then ALL HIS FANS …he kinda forgets the last part. His community don’t pay the bills btw , most of his fans are in America (or Japan). I’m not even an American but the attitute pissed me off a little , most of the people “who were praying” for him like he said aren’t Russian and probably aren’t orthodox….

We are dealing with a religion, logic doesn’t have anything to do with it. :)
In all fairness, I re-watched Fedor’s post-fight interview in the cage, and first he thanked all his supporters and only after that said that there were millions of orthodox people in Russia, who prayed for him and who are responsible for his win.

Truer words were never spoken.

BTW it’s nothing like “God bless America” when he thanks all his “Russian Orthodox fans” (first and foremost) since being an American is a nationality , not a religion.
by JoelMan on Nov 11, 2009 3:15 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That makes “God bless American” even worse, because one can do something about the religion, but not much can be done about the nationality.
It’s like thanking “all people who exercise” vs “all Caucasian/Negro/Asian people”. One can start exercising and thus become a member of the desired group (and this is how this kind of marketing works – Fedor let’s everybody know that being an orthodox is a good thing and that belonging to this group makes Fedor himself proud of you), but if you have a wrong colour/nationality – you can’t do anything (unless you happen to have financial resourced of Michael Jackson) and are pretty much screwed.

Huh ? How can you become Russian Orthodox for christ sake ? I think it’s easier to become American…
And besides I’m just telling you how I felt , I don’t see the point of arguing about it . If it didn’t bother u good for u , it did bother me though.

One has to move to the USA and spend many-many years to become an American. And America is a exception to the rule. In majority of countries, you will not be considered “put-here-whatever-nationality-of-the-original-people-in-that-particular-country” (German, Finnish, Japanese).
One can take the religion of the Russian Orthodoxism much more quickly.
We are not arguing at all. You are telling your feelings and impression, I tell mine. That’s just an exchange of information, nothing more. I hope a few of the points I made, made you feel a little better!

All and all I’m still a fan , I don’t watch mma to hear the fighters talk and no one fights more beautifully than Fedor imo .
But it wouldn’t have killed him to learn how to say “Hello Chicago , thank you all very much” . Jesus fucking christ that would have made the crowd explode , people are thriving for every word he says …but maybe he knows this and keeps with the attitute on purpose.
Fedor is Fedor , what can u do :)
I still think he’s the man
by JoelMan on Nov 11, 2009 4:06 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with you. Especially because Chicago’s crowd was so hot and emotional!

He mentioned something about Orthodox Russia on the CBS interview too. It is a little confusing to me also that he devotes his win solely to them.

Its a Russian conspiracy. You guys are exponentially overthinking this. The guys’ a humble Russian Orthodox person… a little late to hope he ups his media personality. Its as ridiculous as people who like Mayhem Miller for his entrances and “zaniness.”

I'm almost too atheist to function
And at least Fedor is much, much more low-key about it than many other athletes. Not even English speaking ones necessarily, Vitor Belfort is much worse.

the only other person i could think of is Diego…..YES! YES! YES!

M-1 is cashing in. It looks like they pulled this off themselves with the logos and all. No mention of CBS, and just a little white strikeforce at the bottom.

They had the international rights to 40 countries. This is part of the whole co-promotion deal.

I like it that at the end of the video it showed M-1 being bigger then Strikeforce.
Everyone has a game plan, untell they get hit.
