Joe Rogan – “…Fedor got exposed”
Dana White – “… rinky-dink Strikeforce”

Fedor looks just fine right where he is. He’s got enough money to buy and sell his hometown a million times over, and he certainly doesn’t appear to care about fame.
Fighting is a game that he enjoys, and he likes to win. Don’t bore him too much or try to insult him and he seems perfectly happy.
The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering BROCKLESNAR; to the last I grapple with thee.

Gives even more reason for them to follow what i’ve wanted.. skip Werdum and go straight to Overeem on 2010!

Honestly, that makes sense.
Overeem vs Fedor, then do Rogers v Werdum, let that winner get Fedor’s 3rd fight.

I want to see barnett fight again, he is still an interesting competitor. We could have barnett/verdum and big foot/rogers while overeem prepares ;) for fedor.

uh ohhh.. Overeem will be in a "tune up" bout in showtime first.
Coker will use Emelianenko’s layoff to boost name recognition in the U.S. of Strikeforce’s heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, 29, an MMA veteran with a 31-11 record that includes losses to former UFC light-heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and current UFC contender Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
England’s Overeem will headline a Strikeforce card on Showtime early next year, and he is the favorite to be Emelianenko’s next foe, Coker said.
by Anton Tabuena on Nov 10, 2009 2:07 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I hate tune up bouts.. this isn't boxing..
Who are you going to put him up against? and will it be a title match against a game opponent or against a scrub? there’s too much that can happen that could derail the Fedor Overeem matchup..

This is what I would like to see if Fedor isn’t going to fight until April or May:
1) Overeem vs Werdum for Strikeforce Title. They were supposed to fight in August. Werdum shouldn’t be forced to miss out on his opportunity because Overeem.
2) Fedor fights winner.
3) Meanwhile pair up Bigfoot against Rogers and Arlovski against Barnett (after Arlovski gets a tune-up fight first – he’s one guy that needs it) Winners face off for the winner of Fedor – Overeem (hopefully) in late 2010.
By that time we’ll see where Gracie, Lashley, and Cormier fit in the picture for 2011.

I’d MUCH rather see Bigfoot vs. Arlovski. Force his defense.
by pdl on Nov 10, 2009 7:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, it helps Overeem immensely in the North American market.
I mean, look at him. Remember how people always pushed the issue about guys who had that physical look to them. That’s Overeem, and he’ll probably punish someone like Antonio Silva or Werdum.

Fedor needs the UFC?!?
I believe we heard that same statement prior to his fights against Sylvia and Arlovski.
Fedor has the power of his career that many fighters wish they had. Example: See Tito Ortiz and Randy Couture previous exit strategies. Randy Couture is one of the only fighters that have not uttered any pro-UFC stance concerning Fedor.
blah, blah, blah . . . wahhhhhh wahhhhhh

Fedor doesn’t need the UFC. As long as he doesn’t fight the best, he will always keep his mystique as the best. He is making way more money working for poser fight leagues than he would in the UFC.

by Riney on Nov 10, 2009 3:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, and who has a big part in M-1’s ownership.
Fedor’s situation is very similar to Hendo’s situation. Hendo needs to cash in on fighting and he is clearly doing that with the Clinch gear brand. This brand did not fit in with UFC’s plans so he left. He mentioned that he lost a substantial amount with the UFC sponsorship changes right before his fight with that British guy who got KO’d.

Not Fedro. He has 20% at most.

And how much of the UFC does Dana White have? 10% I think. Not saying that he’s making anywhere near the Dana money cause I don’t know, but 20% of a company is a pretty big chunk!
Plus he’s probably getting a salary just like Dana does and lucrative world wide sponsors that don’t need to be UFC approved.
20% is a heck of a lot if if you ask me.

I can start a company today and own 100% of it.

i'll compare football to mma in one aspect
fedor e. at least in the us will be seen as the best fighter never to fight in the ufc (the nfl) strikeforce will be seen as the usfl. that is how the casual fan will see it. it might not be fair but it’s the truth.

niether needs either monetarily, obviously. the ufc wouldn’t go straight to abc’s wide world of sports primetime, simply by signing fedor. fedor doesn’t seem to care much about material things, going by the tool shed looking house and clunker car he owns. lol. to each his own. he does need alot of money for that 30 man entourage that he requires for every fight, now i see the tyson comparison. maybe buffer means fedor needs the ufc to have more proper challengers but that remains to be seen. brett rogers is a good fighter, but some seem to think that since he did better than expected, rogers would destroy the ufc’s “elite”. some, but not many.
by bdw on Nov 10, 2009 3:09 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The UFC definitely needs fedor more ...
Because Fedor doesn’t seem to need anyone
He doesn’t need money, he clearly doesn’t need or want fame, and most people seem to agree that he doesn’t seem interested in the highest quality opponents.
After a Fedor victory he barely shows any excitement, while his M-1 suits jump around like schoolgirls high-fiving eachother

No, UFC will thrive with or without Fedor.
Cant say the same for Fedor legacy if he doesnt step up and fight the best in the world which are all under contract with the UFC.
But either way, They did just fine without each other for the last couple years and it wont make a difference in the future.
by Dav11 on Nov 10, 2009 3:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Fedor's legacy is fine, Dav.
If he lost his next fight to Jim Belushi, his legacy would remain the same. The only difference the UFC could make is that the casual fans will know his name for three seconds longer, until they move on to the next fad.

Fedor doesnt need to cement his legacy
He already cleaned out the HW division in Pride yet people want him to take on the newer generation of heavyweights. Fedor is getting old and has a ton of fights under his belt.
Its a damned if you do damned if you dont situation. If he doesnt go to the UFC after SF some people will say he didnt face the best. If he does go to the UFC and gets beaten Dana will bash him that he wasnt that good in the first place.
I think Fedor can beat anyone except father time. (Even though I’ve heard father times submission defense is lacking)
by IRodC on Nov 10, 2009 3:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
fedor is not THAT old. about the same age as that 1 big wrassler dude and fedor, unlike big nog, hasn’t taken a ton of punishment over the years, just adminstered it. and wrasslin for vince takes just as much a toll, if not more than fight camps(don’t believe me? check out The Wrestler). don’t care too much for he can only lose b/c “he’s gettting older”. he is getting older, that can’t be helped, but fighters are catching up to him, and the big giants that he beat in the past are not nearly as skilled as todays big men, so i don’t see at as just an age thing. fedor could retire right now and no one would agrue his legacy, but we all (most of us) would love to see him do it on the biggest stage against the highest caliber before he actually DOES get too old and we can’t see him at his peak. i’m not saying this b/c i want him to get beat, not my favorite fighter, but i don’t hate him, i promise. i just want to see him fight fighters that everyone isn’t convinced he will win automatically. rodgers did alot better than expected, but i’m not entirley convinced that he’s the 2nd, 3rd or even the 5th best challenger out there. there is only a short window left for this to happen, and i will be dissapointed if it doesn’t.
by bdw on Nov 10, 2009 5:22 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I would argue that he has been on the biggest stage against the highest caliber.
Fedor vs Mirko was the biggest HW fight in the history of MMA (One could argue Lesnar-Couture maybe)
I do agree that wrestling does a lot of damage to the body and he is the same age as Lesnar. But by the time he ends his contract (in 2 fights) he will be 34 close to 35 which is an age when most athletes start to lose their power and their speed.
I can’t agree on the assumption that his legacy won’t be tarnished (to me it won’t) but that question mark left by “What if Fedor was in the UFC?” will remain.
Sorry if I have some spelling mistakes.

Maybe he meant Bruce Buffer needs the UFC
by The Real T-Bone on Nov 10, 2009 3:22 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
Haha. No he doesn't
The UFC needs Fedor if they’re going to say they are the premier fighting league and also Alistar Overeem who is a monster.
Strikeforce has both and will be announcing two more big heavyweight signings in a few days.
The UFC isn’t gonna lead the pack for much longer and will just be a part of the pack.

The UFC has...
11 out of the top 25 Heavyweight’s. Including 3 in the top 5 and 6 in the top 10.
21 out of the top 25 Light-Heavyweight’s. Including 5 in the top 5 and 9 in the top 10.
16 out of the top 25 Middleweight’s. Including 4 in the top 5 and 8 in the top 10.
19 out of the top 25 Welterweight’s. Including 5 in the top 5 and 9 in the top 10.
14 out of the top 25 Lightweight’s. Including 3 out of the top 5 and 6 in the top 10.
I don’t think that they are going to be losing there lead in the pack for quite some time.

Why is Bruce Buffer making statements like this? He is no MMA expert. His job is to do an exciting ring announcement and STFU…. and hes only in the UFC because they dont want to pay for his much more talented brother.
by ryanwk628 on Nov 10, 2009 4:58 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
what makes someone a mma expert? he’s been watching the fights live for a decade, so i think he knows a thing or two, just like his more famous older brother knows about boxing from watching fights. he was asked a question, he answered honestly. not what you wanted to hear. doesn’t make him right or wrong. just his opinion. i prefer jimmy lennon jr over both as announcers though……. i’m old.

he cant pull a big John and speak his mind… he will be off the UFC payroll. He and the announcers shouldnt be fronted on MMA sites because they are a mouth piece for the UFC. Leave the promoting to the promoter.

Bruce has enough money (he is a very successful businessman) and doesn’t really depends on the UFC. He can talk whatever he wants and feels like.
I listened to quite a few interviews with him and he seems to be an honest, smart, straightforward and independent guy, who can explain his thoughts and has a solid logic behind his opinions.
