That’s actually pretty charitable to Strikeforce. WCW was winning at one point.

That was the golden age.
*reflects
Anywho… crazier things have happened. The stars could align for SF. How? CBS, EA MMA, Showtime, Fedor, Mousasi, Overeem, Dream, Gina Carano, Diaz, Mayhem, Melendez, King Mo signing, Lashley signing, Womens MMA, etc. Theres so much more. Anyone thinking Strikeforce is eventually gonna go out of business is delusional. This thing is just getting started. :)

Because PRIDE had 5 fighters and events where held in Bingo Halls with no production value?
Who would be PRIDE’s equivalent to ‘New Jack’?
Freakshow Fights: Check
Hardcore Underground Fanbase: Check
Consistantly Entertaining Matches: Check
Had to stay up late or Download it to see it: Check
As far as PRIDE’s “New Jack”, I’d have to say Heath Herring. Always entertaining and dangerous, but no where near Champion Caliber.
Yep, I have Twitter too. Follow me @deowade
The reason...
Ted Turner had the bigger pocket book. He was able to lure away the hyped wrestlers. Good equation here; Hulk Hogan= Fedor. But who would be Macho Man? Hogan at that point was well past his prime, but was still the biggest draw in pro wrestling. So what did the UFC have to do? Create new fresh marketable young stars. TUF franchise anyone? Diego Sanchez=The Rock. Kimbo=Stone Cold? Much like Kimbo, Steve Austin was marketable in another promotion, but floundered out. When he went to WWE he was remarketed and became huge. Could this happen for Kimbo?
Actually I think they do. My brother is a HARDCORE wrestling fan. I been bugging him non stop about UFC, WEC, Strikeforce so he eventually started watching just to shut me up. Slowly but surely, he is getting hooked. =)
Heh, my kids are growing up on MMA instead of wrestling. Times are a changin.

Probably most important part is (unconsciously) fan base is same. Most people recently know about MMA.Act like never a fan of pro wrestling. But really is people like to talk about shit org didn’t like or what is bad ass attitude.Same as pro wrestling.
I don’t deny that is part of enjoying this sports but hey, people need more realize about that aspect.
I can’t stand pro-wrestling matches, with the in-ring theatrics & obviously scripted ‘fights’. It’s impressive that men that big can fling themselves about so casually, but if I want to see a gymnastics competition, I’ll watch it during the Olympics.

I don’t care for manufactured bad blood—in fact, I don’t care to know if the guys fighting hate each other whether it’s real or not. But when it comes to creative entrances and fighters generally fooling around with their personas, I’m 100% in favor of it.

Pro Wrestling is not gay (clickyclicky)

I never got pro wrestling or pokemon. Made for a lonely childhood.

they could've gone back a step or five further
reading this book I was pretty intrigued to learn that Akira Maeda fought his way from Seattle to Brazil as a pro-wrestler and the Brazilian vale tudo tradition grew directly out of the North American tradition of catch wrestlers accepting challenge matches from local tough guys.
Of course back in the day, pro wrestling was (mostly) real.
No pro-wrestling = no BJJ, no MMA.

yes of course!
my bad. thank god for the interwebs — little secret, but I have to search google for almost every post or I’d misspell or misname at least one fighter. somewhere along the way, I lost my ability to remember names.

Even though a lot of MMA fans never accept that they liked pro-wrestling, its even dumber to ignore the similarities. The UFC way of promoting themselves as being IN YOUR FACE is very reminiscent of WWF and their “Attitude” in the late 90s.
My point is I wanna see a Stone Cold Stunner in MMA. :)
The last time I watched wrestling was when the Ultimate Warrior got poisoned by Papa Shango.
Good times.
The last time I watched wrestling
was right before I changed the channel
MMA’s fanbase is a prowrestlin base way more then a boxing one.

All sports use wrestling style marketing in some way or another. Good guy vs bad guy sells in any sport, not just in MMA or pro wrestling.

exactly
which is one of the reasons why i’m not impressed with this video.
in order to make their big comparison they had to cherry pick obscure footage of genki sudo entrances, charles krazy horse bennett antics, and frank shamrock versus bas rutten. umm…. ok that’s not exactly representative of the modern sport.
they could have made the exact same video to compare pro wrestling with pro football, and found a bunch of weird NFL clips from the past 20 years.

There are plenty of other clips he could have chosen. And while it’s true that there are elements of pro wrestling promotion in all sports, it’s especially interesting in MMA because of a) crossover in actual athletes, sometimes stars and b) the fact that MMA is so often marketed for its REALNESS as a combat sport, which makes the pro wrestling overlap somewhat awkward.
When I was a kid
I was all about some pro wrestling, would go to all the events that came in town(even saw a ECW event that was held at the community college basketball gym) and caught all the ppvs on the cable box with the chip in it, but as I got into high school me and my friends got over it. Once in college MMA filled the void, now I have been to like 7 live events and we dont miss a ppv.

Who has the best “wrestling persona” in MMA, is it Shonnie Carter?
for all intents and purposes, just consider all my posts as works of satire.

Shhhh!
We aren’t supposed to mention Lesnar and pro wrestling together.

Kimbo
Before Kimbo got in good graces of UFC I thought he could really make some money in the WWE, he didn’t need true skills to land in a solid MMA promotion and there have been far worse athletes that have stepped into a pro ring. He would make a solid heel and would be an instant draw. Nice pick-up Dana and Co. He could have drawn a few casual fans away from the buys.
My background is Pro Wrestling and Boxing
As I’ve frown older I’ve learned to appreciate and love MMA, but I still love pro wrestling. At this point I think its more of nostalgia thing, holding onto childhood memories (Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard and The Andersons-vs-Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff and the Road Warriors at the old Capital Center) b/c wrestling today sucks.
