Recapping with Jay Silva - I'm gonna rip your head off

Full Interview

Jay Silva stepped up on short notice to fight CB Dolloway at "Ultimate Fight Night: Diaz vs. Guillard".  While the outcome of the fight was not in Silva's favor, the last round saw Silva dominate and implement the game plan he had going into the fight.  MMA Recap sat down with Silva to discuss all aspects of his game.

Star-divide

What's it like training with Rampage and Kongo?
Yeah Rampage, Cheick Kongo, Brad Blackburn, Mayhem a lot of great guys.  Its good training with these top guys because I feel like I get more experience than most of these guys I fight.

Your fight with CB Dolloway was a tale of two fights.  For the first round and most of the second, CB controlled the action.  Then he locked in that rear naked choke and I swear you went to sleep and just woke up.  It was after you woke up that you just unloaded.  Take me through your thoughts on the fight?
I never fell asleep, I was about to.  It was tight, and I thought about it, but then I thought this is what I do and I thought I need to get out of this.  It's kill or be killed.  I am going to go all the way out cause I won't tap.  I wanted to fight until the end.  I remember praying and I didn't want to quit and I wanted to knock this guy out.

Before your fight with CB Dolloway you said something along the lines of "I just want to go out there and hear some skin slapping."  Why did it take you till the third round to actually do that?
I told everyone I was going to knock him out and I tried my best.  I knocked him down three times.  Next time I will make sure that I have a full gas tank.  The short training camp was like I only put $5 in the tank, next time there will be the full $50.

The new season of TUF is going to feature middleweights, are you looking at auditioning for that?
Everyone has been asking me about it, but I am already a UFC fighter.  Why would I go back to the show?  The show is for exposure.  I don't need exposure.  I am a good fighter; everybody likes me.  Some people don't like me because I am cocky.  I said I was going to knock CB out and I knocked him down three times.  They asked me to go to the show but I didn't want to go to the show and be in a house of guys.  I think I will be fine without the exposure of the show.

Do you have an idea of when you will fight next for the UFC?  Any particular opponent you want to fight?
I can't tell you who it is yet, but Joe Silva talked to me and my next fight is going to be a bang.  And this guy is going to come and try and rip my head off.  He has never had one boring fight and this is going to be a great fight.  I know if I lose that fight, it will be by knock out.

Funny as hell

Jay Silva was hilarious. He enjoys what he is doing and loves every minute of it. I couldn’t stop laughing through out most of this interview.

Paging Drew McFedries.

This shirt is "dry clean only", which means it's dirty.

You might want to edit the title of the post

since Silva never threatened to rip anyone’s head off, but rather explained that his next opponent might want to.

No he said in the interview “I’m gonna rip your head off” when referring to the way he fights. He said it multiple times through out the interview.

Fair enough

but the sections you posted didn’t contain that part, so the title was a bit confusing. Something to keep in mind for next time…

Jay Silva sounds like a cool dude, hopefully he gets a fight that isn’t on short notice next time.

Silva beat the living piss out of CB Dollaway in that fight.

It’s weird when the guy who “loses” the fight walks out of the octagon completely unhurt, smiling and waving to the fans, while the barely conscious “winner” can hardly stand on his own power and limps out of the octagon carried by two cornermen.
