"I don’t really like the business model of the UFC. I don’t like the way they treat certain fighters. As a fan though, it’s probably my favorite show to watch. I want to fight the best in the world, and I want to remain active, which might not happen in the UFC. With Sengoku and Bellator, I am going to be fighting Kitaoka next month and when I return to Bellator I could be fighting another top guy in Eddie Alvarez. The UFC only has like three top lightweights: Gray Maynard, BJ Penn and Frankie Edgar, so this way I can fight most of the top fighters in the world outside of the UFC."

An argument could be made for these three men; Alvarez, Kawajiri, Hansen.
Gil is, I think among the top, but should not be in the top ten due to the comp he faces and all the fights in the LW div that are higher quality. Thomson, no. JZ is great, but plagued by injury.

Jorge Masvidal Parrots Shinya Aoki
The UFC only has like three top lightweights
I see Masvidal is still suffering the after affects of that inverted triangle.
Addtionally, Masvidal is a nice fighter and all, but he’s not really a guy that has any cause to worry about the top lightweights at the moment. A win over Kitaoka would go along way toward changing that, though.

by CSKit on Oct 8, 2009 5:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I didn't make the initial claim
so the burden of proof isn’t on me.
“Huerta not currently in the UFC” implies that Roger is no longer an employee. Unless Supremacy has insider information, which he obviously does not, he cannot claim that Roger is not currently in the UFC.
He may have no remaining fights on his contract, but for all we know, negotiations are on-going. Supremacy could be right, but without evidence you can’t just make bold assertions like that.

Personally, his comments come off as idiotic more than anything. The UFC doesn’t have all the top fighters, but there are more than just three. He’s obviously forgetting Diego, Sherk and Florian just to name a couple. Unless of course his top fighters list only contains five fighters. Plus, I think people were more angry about him dissing the rest of the division, which frankly, he would have troubles in, never mind the top fighters. Especially since I bet most fans probably never heard of the guy until he got triangled.
But yes, your initial observation is correct. It is completely silly how some fans go ape shit over anyone criticizing the UFC.

No. Considering how he lost to Penn and Florian (four of his losses were by some sort of choke), a guy like Aoki who has such a superior ability to gain and hold back control, and such a high submission ability, would just kill Stevenson. Right On The Money Statement
Its about time someone said this. The LW division of UFC is a joke. It is BJ Penn then nobody else. Diego Sanchez is a joke, just as Kenny Florian is. They are just products of a bullshit controlled promotion of Dana White. The best talent is all outside of UFC and Masvidal hit this right on the money. Not to mention the other promotions payout higher than UFC on average as well at LW. Dana White doesn’t respect the smaller division and that’s why all the best featherweights and lightweights don’t fight for him. Kudos to Masivdal for having balls to say it.

Dana White is the New Don King
Not sure why I am even engaging in such stupidity, but I feel the need to help educate you.
Once upon, there was a promoter with standing hair named Don King. Mr. King owned the world of boxing, and in particular the heavyweight division. Mr. King setup the fights, pitting his fighters against one another and billed the fights as the best 2 fighters in the world. In doing so, Mr. King made millions while his fighters lived in poverty in comparison.
Sound familiar. Dana White controls this sport…period. If you date to cross him he bans you from his promotion. What part of that don’t you understand. If you don’t play ball, you don’t get access.
As a result, he has numerous fighters that are outrageously overpromoted and not nearly as good as advertised. Because White controls all the matchups and bars the fighters from fighting in other promotions, he is able to protect his personal interest and sell to you how great all his fighters are.
About 2 months ago, Kenny Florian was considered the #2 lightweight in the world. He had really beaten nobody to attain that ranking other than handpicked White fighters and then was manhandled by BJ Penn. In that fight BJ Penn was never at risk and Florian never gain an advantageous position. So the question to ask yourself is whether Penn is that far and above better than everyone or was Florian overhyped.
While I agree Penn is the best at the weight, I do not believe there is that much of a gap between him and the next tier of true contenders. Masvidal has better record than Florian and a more convincing win over a common opponent in Joe Lauzon. If we go simply on the common opponent, Masvidal is correct. UFC talent pool at lightweight is weak.

Is nobody gonna look at the BE rankings?
The UFC has 12 of the top 25 spots in the BE rankings. Toss in Jamie Varner since it’s inevitable at this point that the WEC will be folded into the UFC, and that’s more than half of the top 25, without even getting into:
- how overrated the smaller promotions are for a number of reasons
- how many of those guys fight with no PED/drug testing
- the fact that Jorge isn’t on the list at all.
So:
Dear Jorge,
Put down the pipe, and get back to training.

Jorge is not on the list because he lacks leverage that White brings. If BE wants access, they do what Dana tells them or they are out. Simple as that. Its called the Don King playbook baby and you are the fool that keeps shelling out $50 for crappy PPV events..

I didn’t think you could prove your ignorance any more, but you have managed to set a new high. Good job.

i think part of that is code for “i’m pissed i haven’t gotten at least a call for a last minute fill-in for an injured fight” fight in the UFC…..gamebred can not like it all he wants. win some fights, be entertaining (which he is) and the ufc would come calling. but he’s not all wrong…i mean, who can’t rattle off 10 things that the UFC has done to various fighters that were totally bogus but then other guys get seemingly unlimited chances and invites back. ahem Guillard does cocaine and he gets brought back but Lindland wears a sportbook t-shirt to a weigh-in and gets cut.
Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei.

Yeah, but Lindland is old and busted
I mean, seriously: who sees him having a chance in the MW division?

Ah, the old sportsbook t-shirt.
It’s amazing that something that simple could piss off the owners of the company, the venue the event was it, and possibly be illegal.
I wonder why anyone would get pissed off about that.
