I completely understand why folks are picking Machida over Shogun by and large. For me, and I am clearly in the minority, I am think of this as a battle between the undefeated champion and the 2005 PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix Champion.

Unfortunately for me – and more importantly, Shogun – this match is taking place in 2009. In MMA, 2005 might as well be a thousand years ago.

Still, it’s more intriguing to me that it realistically should be, given Shogun’s performances in the UFC.

It’d be hilarious if the fighter’s faces changed depending on how many votes they get. Kinda looks that way now.
