The Ultimate Fighter 10: The Aftermath - Episode 3

Click here to watch Amir Sadollah, Roy Nelson and Dana White talk about:

Kimbo Slice:
Dana - "Every time I make decisions on who's going to be coaches or who's going to be in the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, there's no real process to it. Obviously we're trying to think of: How can we make next season exciting? How can we make next season better?... and Kimbo just popp'ed into my head. I put that challenge out there to him and I reached out to his manager and we started talking. It was really that easy. We probably talked for 3 weeks and we got the deal done."
Roy Nelson's training habits:
Dana - "So you're not training with a major camp right now?"
Roy - "No. Well yeah but no."
D - "What the f*ck does that mean? Are you training with a major camp or are you not?"
R - "Well I have Marco, Amir Sadollah's striking coach and I'm helping Todd Duffee out; training at my house in Vegas."
D - "Why don't you hook up with like a Couture or anybody?"
R - "Usually when I go to those places, I have to teach. I don't want to teach"
D - "You're over there teaching Couture?"
R - "Of course… that's how I roll."
D - "I think that hurts you as a fighter, to not be with a major camp. Not be sparring and training with guys that are going to push you everyday."
Roy Nelson's attitude:
Dana - "I don't remember being pissed about the Kimbo stoppage. Roy had him down in the first round and was hitting him. Then Roy jumps up and looks at me like "What the f*ck Dana?" Like I'm up I'm over there telling the ref, "Don't stop this fight". Like I have input or something. That was my first beginning of getting f*cking irritated with Roy Nelson. Then he runs over and asks me to go get him a f*cking Whopper. That was my second starting to get f*cking irrated with Roy Nelson. But we have no input what the judges do; we have no say what the judges or the referees do."
Rampage's retirement:
Dana - "Rampage is a friend of mine. I love him and I'm going to work through this thing with him. I don't want to see him lose this money."

Roy is kind of an idiot with some of those comments.

Especially asking Dana to get him a Whopper. At least he chose to plug one of the sponsors. (Doesn’t Burger King sponsor TUF or some other UFC events?)

Didn’t the other fighters in the house dare Roy to ask Dana for a Whopper if he won the fight?

Do you think Dana thought he was serious?

No, but I'm sure Dana also didn't like having some wanabe UFCer

talking that way to him on TV and in front of all the other show’s participants.

You think Dana would have been as pissy if it was Kimbo that did it?

Roy is very imature, he thinks he’s the old salt. Thats bs, joining a camp is for mutual benifit. I know he’s not getting paid to be a model, but thats not the only reason to lose weight. It will make you quicker you fool. He is a very frustrating person. He needs to be with team quest. I don’t know of any fat guys out of quest. They will break him down and build him stronger. He has a lot of bad habbits.

by szucconi on Oct 6, 2009 11:26 AM EDT reply actions

Yup

Does this make anyone else think he may not have made it through? Would he seriously be training in his wood-paneled basement with his cousin Rick if he was preparing for the finale?

I STILL poop rainbows.

With Roy, I think he would. Dana sounded pretty pissed off about him not being at a camp, not sure what to make of that. QUEST, ROY!

by szucconi on Oct 6, 2009 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

if it what he’s been doing all along, sweeping through a reality show tournament he was convinced he was gonna win from the start, would make him think it was the RIGHT thing to do, rather than something he needed to change.

by woooburn on Oct 6, 2009 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Not really on board with that.. A lot of former TUF finalists have boosted it into turbo after making it through to the finale.

I STILL poop rainbows.

but alot of those previous contestants were starting out in their mma careers, and used the show as a catalyst to focus on fighting full time. nelson is veteran who’s clearly been doing things his own way for awhile now. old dog… new tricks…

not saying i agree with his decision, but if he’s been training without camp for this long, and achieved the level of success he has, i dont think he’s gonna be that quick to change his methods.

by woooburn on Oct 6, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Nor am I saying that he should. To each his own. I just think it would benefit him.

I STILL poop rainbows.

I think he’s full of shit (and saturated fat). In one of the countdown shows for either Randy or Vitor, they showed Roy Nelson drilling in the background. I know he says that right now he’s not training at Xtreme Couture, and maybe by that he meant in the time that he came from his house to the interview he wasn’t at Xtreme Couture, but he’s certainly trained there since the conclusion of the taping of TUF.

Quest, he need to go to Team Quest. Plenty of fat guys at Couture. He doesn’t need enablers.

He needs to work on his overall fitness and cardio, No place better then a camp full of wrestlers for that. Team Quest would likely haze him and break him down and teach him what being in shape is all about. With the size of his belly I am amazed at what he can do despite it. He looks to be about 18 months pregnant. Imagine his talent in a lean frame and some cleaned up striking.

by szucconi on Oct 6, 2009 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions

muscle mass is actually harder on cardio than fat

a fat cell is just calories waiting to be burned, every muscle cell is a greedy oxygen hog competing with the heart and lungs for oxygen.

I don’t want him to bulk up, I want him to be moving less mass around. Have you ever lost a great deal of weight? In my case going from 170 to 145 made a world of difference. He has plenty of muscle mass, its just his muscle mass is working harder then it needs to to carry around all those spare kcals. I am well aware that muscles take more o2 then fat, but the total amount of work being done is more then necessary. I stop short of saying he is a 205er, but he simply has too much mass.

I will be posting a thread on Roy weekly for purely entertainment purposes.

Dana makes these decisions? I seem to recall him being against US vs UK…

The statement holds up regardless of whether or not he had a say in the US v. UK format. Every time Dana makes the decisions, which means that when he makes the decisions, there is no real process to it. When he doesn’t make the decisions, perhaps in the case of US v. UK, well, he didn’t make the decision, so we don’t know what the process of selecting fighters was in that/those case(s).

Why would be Dana be soo upset with Roy plugging Burger KIng considering their was a huge BK logo in the middle of the cage? At least he did not pull a Brock Lesnar and say he wanted a Big Mac Burger instead!

I doubt it mattered much what Roy said. He just beat Kimbo $lice – no way Dana was going to be happy with him.

Unless we would say Roy Nelson “guards” the Chinese Buffet…

I love the “your teaching Randy?” comment. They should set that fight up. I want Randy to beat him up and teach him a lesson. I liked Roy before this show and not Slice, but not I like Slice and not Roy. Its been a weird couple of weeks.

Yeah, letting a reality show dictate your feelings can do that to a person :(

Yep. Roy does things his own way and it’s gotten him this far. That people jumping ugly all over Roy because of what Dana White and Rashad Evans said in two clips from a reality television show is rather telling.

The Sheeple are coming! The Sheeple are coming!

Roy rubbed his belly and asked for a Whopper after a win. Big freaking deal.

Imagine the outrage if he had asked for (gasp)… a Big Mac!

Roy is cool....any man that could do what he does by himself...is MAN

when he said to DW to get him a whopper i just went nuts…i laughed so much my stomach started to hurt. Roy ur a one funny SOB.

Some of youz need to watch the video and not just read the transcript. What is it…only 10% of communication is the words you use.

Roy and Dana seem to have a pretty good relationship. Roy just likes to push people, even his friends and especially authority figures. Dana understands that and fires back at him when he can. They sure look like pals….

Anybody else catch that after his whopper comment he added, “The King wants it his way.”

Roy also stated that calling his shot on the Kimbo win was a headgame for the other fighters. He did announce it to most of the fighters, then he did it. He’s playin some high level poker…..

by Headkick on Oct 6, 2009 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

What most people don't realize is

that Roy was the grappling coach at the Lion’s Den for quite a while. While not an elite camp right now, I can see how he would end up coaching others while at another camp. He might be better off starting his own gym to train others.

Remember what SouthAlaBama Rampage pointed out about Roy’s conversation with the other guys and Schaub? In this Aftermath episode, they’re trying to make it look like it wasn’t an editing mistake. Now which is it?

Why isn’t Kimbo there? Busy learning a ground game in time for the TUF finale?

by MMAInFeRioRiTy on Oct 6, 2009 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

I thought he was supposed to be. I read an interview with Roy and he said he would be doing the show with Dana and Kimbo.

I like Roy. I think too many people read into his comments too much.

I also don’t think Team Quest would be the answer unless he feels he needs to really work on wrestling. Their website shows two pretty soggy HWs though not as bad as Roy. Since there aren’t alot of HWs he may not need to teach.

by swells2048 on Oct 6, 2009 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I would say his wrestling is not a weakness, but not an asset. His BJJ/grappling is great. His boxing is sub par. Team Quest would push him in the right direction fitness wise, I think.

by szucconi on Oct 6, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

does anyone else think

it’s odd that Roy didn’t defend his earlier comments that Herb Deen looked at Dana to end the fight? Dana clearly defends the accusation, but Roy offers up nothing for a rebuttal. I dunno, it just seems that Nelson made some very serious accusations and, like an old Jedi mind trick, White waved his hand and everything was laughed off (ha ha ha, I was just kidding about you affecting the outcome of my fight, let us go to the BK where I can get it my way).

p.s. The remarks I was referring to was an interview with Roy that I’m pretty sure was posted on this website. In it he comes close to accusing Dana of pulling a Jared Shaw (not the lucky/creepy guy maneuver that neeting him a sneak peek at Gina) by eyeballing Dean into not stopping the fight due to Nelson’s pitty pat, patty cake undefended shots. Can’t move the moon man, can’t move the moon. sry, been drinking
