Alistair Overeem set to take on Sam Hoger for Shooto.

"Inside Fights has learned from sources close to the negotiations that former Ultimate Fighter contestant Sam Hoger has tentatively agreed to face Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem for the Shooto organization in Japan.

Our source informed us that both fighters have verbally agreed to the deal. Bout agreements have not been distributed but are expected shortly."

Note from Chris Nelson - This is probably a bout for Golden Glory's 10th Anniversary on October 17th, not Shooto Japan. As user Venom77 points out, "Ultimate Glory events are sometimes referred as Shooto Glory here. Martijn de Jong is both a matchmaker for Glory and Shooto Europe president."

o my god….shooto, k1, dream..I guess anywhere but Strikeforce.

It’s probably a mistake. Holland’s Glory events use Shooto rules and Alistair is scheduled to fight a their Decade show in Amsterdam, Oct 17th. I guess Hoger will be his opponent.

That would make way more sense than two guys with no ties to Shooto whatsoever fighting in Japan.

Alistair is not a fighter Shooto can afford.

Also Ultimate Glory events are sometimes referred as Shooto Glory here. Martijn de Jong is both a matchmaker for Glory and Shooto Europe president. 2+2=4.

Ruin it? Like by talking about it on Twitter before the bout agreement is signed?

He probably means

ruin it like the MMA fans put Hendo/ Franklin II to a stop, by having an overwhelmingly underwhelming reaction to the bout.

Where would he get that idea?

He might just understand

that nobody gives 2 shit about him.

I’m sorry, I just really dislike Sam Hoger. Hated him on TUF and his fighting style does nothing for me.

Not to mention that it’s just a squash match for Overeem

Dude

weak. I don’t give a shit about Overeem/ Hoger, that fight does nothing for me. I want to see Alistair defend the Strikeforce belt.

At any rate, I think it’s obvious that he’s taking his time for 1 reason or another- whether it’s him waiting for an obvious challenger to be named (winner of Fedor & Rogers), maybe he’s rehabbing his hand by fighting subpar comp and K-1 matches, or it’s something else. At any rate, I really want to see Fedor/ Overeem

He will only take an odd fight to promote the Golden Glory Anniversary show, not a Shooto one. There is some bad reporting or misconceptions going on here. We will have to wait for more info to come out.

He is supposed to fight in the Golden Glory Event, DREAM.12 event, Strikeforce event, then K-1 again.

I’m the guy who wrote the original report. I was originally told that it was a Shooto Japan card, but was notified a few hours later that they were uncertain if it was Golden Glory or Japan.

I’m visiting with Sam tomorrow. I’ll get the details and update the original post.
